Well, Fred sees a flimsy (or rather a strong, and I don't see any) connection, in that he contends that God has been unhappy with humans, ever since gays and lesbians were given more "freedom" to serve in the military, under Clinton's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. Of course he hated homosexuals, transgendered folk, etc. before then, but he got extra loud and virulent after that. His contention is that this whole tragedy at VA Tech would not have occurred at all if God was happier with mankind, and it's a general "sign" that humans need to "repent" and see the error of their ways (but mostly just "homos" really). Ditto for the war in Iraq (especially since our military has homosexual soldiers). I really am surprised someone has not had him committed to a mental health care facility somewhere. But, it's a free country, and the Klan gets to operate, so why not Fred and his followers, I guess. It is mostly the church idea that really gets me. I do really wonder how any group gets to qualify as a church. If there are any people out there who know, please write in, I am curious. - Susan
