I think you're confusing the words power with authority.

You had the power to do all this stuff before you ever met your master.

You still do.

You simply do not have the authority to USE that power.

Strange how some people on collarme hate labels ( and I would love to see all the unlabeled cans in their pantries! ) while some wish to redefine the relationships of others, Oddly enough, the use of the words power and authority are not opposed in this context. One definition of power is the possession of control or command over others; authority; ascendancy. Another is delegated authority; authority granted to a person or persons in a particular office or capacity. In other words, no need to shove a new term down someones throat, as the terms are two ways of saying the same thing.

To me, TPE (total power exchange) is a switch term. Leave the word exchange out and it becomes total power for one. I've had several Doms tell me they are looking for TPE, but when I asked them about the exchange they said there was none. They were looking for TP, not TPE.

Well, maybe i am confused, who knows?  i'm often confused about a lot of things in this world.  Still, i am very clear about this, i am talking about the POWER within my relationship with my Master.  He has it.  i don't want it.

Call it by another name, it's still POWER.  i have known many people who are constantly engaging in POWER STRUGGLES within their relationships, not AUTHORITY STRUGGLES.  Some use Sex and some use Money to gain POWER within their relationship.  i have known plenty of women who will withhold Sex from their husband until he caves and she gets her way and that gives her POWER over him within their relationship.  And, on the other side, i have known plenty of men who, in order to get what they want, will use Money to get the upper hand and gain the POWER to do what he wants or have what he wants.  It is often a temporary shift in the POWER within the relationship.

For me and my Master, it is a Permanent shift in POWER within O/our relationship.  i don't try to win the POWER and He doesn't need to do anything to have the POWER.  It was a given right from the start that i would relinquish All POWER within O/our relationship over to Him and He would retain Total POWER over me.  There is no POWER STRUGGLE in O/our relationship.  He has all of the POWER in O/our Total Power Exchange relationship and that's how W/we like it.

There is no question on the meaning of power. I was referring to the word exchange. That's what makes TPE a switch term. In a master/slave or dom/sub relationship, there is no power exchange because the same person always has power over the other.

I love power exchange.  Total, no because I am not a slave and I have limits.  Power exchange to me is about who makes decision, it can go from what kind of food you eat, what you wear to where you live, who spends the money or even more control such as whether the sub will work or stay home, who the sub can have as friends and other types of control.

As a submale, in the minority here, I love dominant women and those who want a lot of control over me.  I won't go to the total level.

I disagree. The exchange is one kind of power for another.  I'm in a M/s and we have used TPE terminology to describe our dynamic.  I have never been so empowered as I have by this relationship. He has *authority* over me, and we feed each other *power*. I give him my power, and what he gives me is his, and mine back, amplified, with "four part harmony and feelin'." Then he gets that back again.  It becomes an endless positive feedback loop of empowerment.

Just my 2 cents.
Regards
JY

Well, in my relationship with my Master, TPE is not a "switch term" because there is no "switching" of who has the Power.  W/we don't take turns in having the Power.  He has it all the time, even when He grants me the Power to do something it's under His directions and under His conditions.

To Exchange means to give something to another in order to receive something in return.

O/our Total Power Exchange isn't:  He has the Power over me for awhile and then i have the Power over Him.  That would be a case of using Total Power Exchange as a "switch term", i suppose.

O/our Total Power Exchange is:  i gave Him the right to have Total Power over me in Exchange for the things W/we agreed to before W/we entered into O/our TPE relationship.  There is no "switching" involved.  W/we have a covenant W/we made with each other and, as long as that covenant isn't broken by either of U/us, He will continue to retain Total Power over me in O/our relationship all the time and, in Exchange, i will continue to receive from Him what W/we agreed to.

Greetings..~smiles~

It's always meant to me a complete exchange of Power. His/Her power of Dominantion for his/her Power of submission. In harmony..they are both Empowered.

Is it relevant as a blanketed abbreviation? No..not anymore than Total Control Exchange or Total Authority Transfer is.

What ever floats the persons boats is what it will be called.

Well Wishes
starshine
