Status: offline 		i've always viewed "collared" and "owned" to mean the same thing...slavery. however i've learned that people use the two terms to apply to all manner of relationships which have nothing to do with slavery, so who knows?

i am owned because i am a slave. i am collared because i am a slave. "collared" to me does not have to indicate a literal physical collar, it is just another way of saying owned. but again this is how i use and see the term.

Any sub can be collared. The collar is a symbol of a D/s relationship, NOT the level of Dynamic within that relationship.

Ownership = slave = TPE

Last sub I had was working toward a collar, but I would have never Owned her. she had parts of her life that would have always needed to remain outside My reach and control.

I OWN desire in mind, body and soul. she is Mine with nothing held back. The only choise in her life that is not in some way accountable to Me is the choise to end this and walk away and that she 'should' only do if she ever totaly looses trust in who I am, in the fact that she is safe from HARM under My care. ALL else is Mine.

Yes there is.  Collaring these days means an intended long term committment.  Ownership means the person is owned, like you own a chair, a dog, a house.

The difference between the terminology collared and owned is really far too subjective to be universally applied. Looking to the posts before me in this forum I must concur that it is truly the individual/individuals who are responsible for defining or seeing themselves as one or the other. In my personal view I see collared as more a formal physical concept, while owned is a more mental state. I am fairly inexperienced in the lifestyle so I may be missing some sort of basic definition for these two terms, but from what I gather, it's really up to the individual's definition. Therefore, there is only a difference if you yourself believe so :)

Status: offline 		Furthering what jay said, a physical collar is a symbol. Like all symbols, it can mean whatever you choose it to mean. "Being collared" is a state of mind, most often associated with being owned. It is perfectly reasonable to collar someone you never intend to own. If you do own them, the physical symbol is superfluous. It may still be desirable, but it remains just a symbol.

  i have worn collars as a submissive and now i wear won as a slave.  As a submissive, i have worn several collars over the years, given to me by the particular Dominant i was serving at the time.  i was never owned by any of them, until my current Master took possession of me.  For me, the collar symbolizes my service to the Dominant who put it on me while i am serving Him,  not His ownership of me.

Status: offline 		i dont understand,can i collar more than one sub,what this about a blue collar,for training,more are allready train but not in my minds eye,driffent masters have driffent ways.allway have too breack them of there old masters ways and start over with my training

Different people do different things and the collar has the meaning and significance you put to it.

For U/us, wearing Master's collar means you are owned by Him.  He does not put a collar on a sub without her having given herself to Him. 

For the first year I was owned by Him, I did not wear His collar.  I could not because of a very traumatic experience I had where someone tried to strangle me.  From that time I couldn't have anything around my neck that was "snug" fitting.  Not even a sweater.  But Master did work with me and after a year, got me a very soft leather collar that I could wear when W/we played and it progressed from there.

You put it in a well said way.  i am own by Sir, i am His slave. i am also collared.
The collar repersents a relationship that might or might not include being owned. Sir has a girl who is doing some training with us, and someday might be a collared submissive but would not be owned by Him. Owning implies slavery or a deeper level of power exchange. Guess some might not agree, some like to have the titles of owned and slave but they don't have the obligation that goes with it and have little power exhange. But if the titles gets them off, who cares.

Status: offline 		To me the collar Master give me is the same as a wedding ring. It symbolizes our comittment to each other and love for each other. I was owned by him for a bit before being collared. It means different things to different people. You can be owned and not collared.

Well according to Master, i am owned and collared.    I actually had to ask him what his thoughts were on this, because I wasn't sure.
    
I agree with Ann, that being owned is a deeper level of commitment and TPE, and the collar is like a wedding ring, it symbolizes our relationship.    I don't currently wear a collar, but I did for a long time, so for me being collared is just terminology we use to go along with being owned.  
 
I have a couple collars, but haven't worn them in years.   Master and I have been together so long that we don't necessarily need the physical collar around my neck to symbolize the relationship.    We know our relationship is what it is.  
 
I also believe it is true IMO, that a submissive can't be owned.
