Like others, I do not demand obedience (it's like demanding a gift -- to insist upon it takes away the pleasure in receiving it), but I invite it. In small ways and then in larger ways, I make requests and watch how the submissive responds. In getting acquainted with someone, it's often funny to see that he is getting restless about not talking about "the good stuff" and is missing my invitation to enter into the dynamic by acceding to my requests.

The one point of obedience that I do insist on is attention to grammar, punctuation and writing. Sloppy writing -- OO! Hard limit! (laughing)

Immediate obedience is not his kink. Which is good 'cause it's not mine either. More than two years into this relationship obedience is not a main focus. Meaning that he wants something and I ask him about it. I want to understand it. I want to find the place in me that wants to do it. I want to give him suggestions and feedback about things he had not considered. And that back and forth works for us. Somethings are immediate. Somethings are not. Case by case basis.

And this has been our truth since we first met.

I myself do not "demand" immediate obedience from a sub, nor would I truly believe the sincerity of one who can "instantly" surrender all.

There are many here who say that they do not require immediate obedience.. yet..
I see many subs/slaves talking about how on a first meet they are directed to wear/not wear certain things or that they are to behave in a particular manner. If the sub/slave doesn't do so then they are showing a lack of 'seriousness' within their submission.
Closer to the OP, on the first meet with my dom yes he did demand obedience and I fully cooperated. Yum. Of course we had spent about a year online talking and on the phone daily.. so he was not an unknown quantity. If I hadn't the luxury of slowly getting to know him I would never ever have stripped to the skin within 2 minutes of first seeing his face!
(He did that to get me past my worry, past my self conciousness about my body. Thank all the lil gods he did so.) It was one of the hardest things I have done but it also set the balance that has continued for over 6 years.

Immediate obedience is different when you have conversed or known a person for a bit. I do not think I could do it for someone I do not know. It really depends on the LEVEL of obedience being asked though.

I see my initial parameters; what I'd prefer to be worn (style, color, etc.), where we meet, hair (no extensions, for instance), makeup, et-al, to be requests. I state what my "preferences" are, for certain things, and use that as a gauge to determine where "our" starting point is. I'm certainly not DEMANDING any sort of obedience, especially not from one I am just meeting. It does provide some insight into how anxious another is to comply, by how many of my "preferences" they are willing to accommodate. And... We take it from there.
