i have what i would say is a twisted sense of humor and quick wit.  during online chat as well as in person i often find the lighter side of conversations and try to keep humor about things.   at times, usually online, i've been told that 'this is a serious lifestyle' and that my humor has no place in it.  

(here comes the disclaimer) i dont use humor with the aim to hurt anyone, discount their feelings or make light of their own beliefs.   simply to enjoy life as it comes.

Yeah, I've met "serious" types. To heck with them. There is nothing quite so hilarious as making a submissive honk a bicycle horn with their butt cheeks while you paddle them with a big red clown shoe!

Good on you sunfluer… keep that sense of humour on top. I think some dominant people feel intimidated by a submissive that has a fun side.

I do try to convert and defuse everything with humor, quick wit and throw a little charm in there[;)]. 
 
But also, keep in mind, a wise fool knows when to be serious as well.

i definitely believe in keeping your sense of humor. He and i will often joke in the middle of sex/play, or laugh about things with each other. of course, we know how/when to be serious...but we are both pretty fun-loving and the idea that we must somehow be more serious because we happen to be kinky doesn't occur to us, at least ;)

Life is too short not to enjoy it. When someone says that he wants only a somber, serious life be grateful they've shown their true colors and thank them for sharing early enough not to waste your time further.

A sense of humour is vital to anyone that is going to be in my company for very long. If they haven't got one, they better run fast or they will end up seriously offended.

laughing is one of the best forms of stress relief. Keep your humour cause at times, it's all we have left.

A serious lifestyle eh? i guess it is. I take my life seriously.
But i need humour too, so that i may enjoy my relationship.

Some people dissappear up their own arses and forget to have fun. Their loss, not ours, thankfully. I dont see it as a bdsm specific personality deficit though.

how can you not laugh at yourself in this lifestyle? things go awfully not to plan occasionally! And if you didnt laugh, you'd die of embarrassemnt lol

I agree with curiouslyseeking.  I think there is a time and place for everything. Master and i laugh and joke all the time. He even allows me to be a smart-ass sometimes. I am just very careful about when, where and how. When He is being serious or has a quirt in his hands it is NOT the time to be a smart-ass. [:D]

Humor is very important to have, if you start taking everything entirely too seriously/humorlessly, things would be way too boring and uninteresting.

For me, I love a good sense of humor.  Having it, knowing someone that has it, or talking to someone that can appreciate it.  But at the same time, I know how to tone things down for more serious discussion.  But that doesn't mean that I'm not thinking some of those thoughts in the process!!

My sense of humor is one of the first things instantly notable about me- I could never be with anyone who didn't share it. Kink's got nothing to do with it- anyone who doesn't like my admittedly idiosyncratic sense of humor should simply eschew my company in or out of bed.

One of the things I find most humorous is when, after you make a good joke, one of those "serious lifestylers" puffs up and gives a lecture about how serious the lifestyle is.[:D]

Most people I know end up laughing at me if I want them to or not. Sometimes even with me.
