"Collective anarchy" sounds like an oxymoron to me. Different ideas about the definition of anarchy aside... I do not regard freedom as being everyone for their self (far from it) but there are people who believe that you cannot be free unless you can do what you want when you want with no regard to the consequences upon others. They are called four year olds, and most of us outgrow this selfish stage in our life. The ones who don’t are a truly pathetic, and sometimes frightening, spectacle to behold as they rant and rave to be taken care of by society (i.e. other people) so they can indulge their self in their own narcissism. I stand by my belief that you cannot have a functioning human society without some form of hierarchy (authority) – we are simply not built that way as a species. As for where we draw the lines between the individuals rights and his responsibilities to others, I agree that there will never be a definitive answer. Not that I don’t have plenty of ideas, but as much as I like to write, I don’t want to write that much.
