Interesting question. I started in this lifestyle as a submissive, because I thought that's what I "should" be, and I definitely learned to enjoy receiving pain and processing it, so that reenforced my belief that I was a submissive. I was very naive. However, giving up control was never easy for me (translated to impossible). So, when that wasn't working for me, my husband (my then dominant) suggsted that I didn't have a submissive bone in my body, and eventually, I came to understand that, and have since developed my dominant skills and am much happier for it. However, that didn't change the fact that I am still masochistic. So, I indulge my masochistic desires by occasionally bottoming to a good friend under the guise of testing a new flogger. And then there are my weekly visits to my accupuncturist, who also happens to be a sadistic friend of mine, and that also keeps my issues with my back under control. The short version: yes Dominants can be Masochists :-)
