FirmhandKY -> 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/28/2007 12:30:05 PM)

The important "swing states" of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania all currently favor Giuliani:

Florida - Giuliani leads Clinton 49 - 41 percent

Ohio - Giuliani leads Clinton 46 - 41 percent

Pennsylvania - Giuliani leads Clinton 47 - 43 percent

Several other interesting bits of information in the Quinnipiac University polls, especially about Al Gore.

I think so.  The link is in my post to the actual study.

Firm - thanks for telling me to quit being lazy and check the link [;)]  Sir some of those races will be too close to call based on who the candidate is.

Whenever I look at the polls, I ask myself two questions:

What year is it?  2007
When's the election?  2008

Nuff said [;)]

happypervert -> RE: 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/28/2007 7:48:22 PM)

I bet this will give Rudy a war and fuzzy feeling when he watches the '08 elections on tv after losing to another Republican the primaries. The red states voters are gonna put a true belever in the race instead of a twice divorced abortionist.

luckydog1 -> RE: 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/28/2007 9:28:16 PM)

Firm, lets not forget that Hillary has already been through the Fire.  There is not much that can be brought up against her that is not already known.  Guiliani, who I like from what I know about him, is mostly riding tails from 911 nationaly, and stands to lose a lot of ground as people learn more about him.  Or gain.  I think he would be a great Vice President, not sure he is ready for the world yet.

That's not a good thing, Lucky.  She's been in the public eye for 15 years.  Everybody has an opinion, or at least a perception of her.  There is no way to explain away her very high negatives with claims that people just don't know who she is.

The 'if' for Rudy is the Repub primary, as noted above.

minnetar -> RE: 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/28/2007 9:44:39 PM)

i am sorry but Barack is my candidate and look at how he has made inroads in the last month about Clinton's lead.   Just wait as he is a force to be dealt with.  lol go Obama

Don't apologize, Minnetar.  Obama is a strong candidate.  His oratorical skills are refreshing (especially in recent years).  He's on my 'to watch' list.

God that's good news, thanks Firm.  But I do have to agree with the happypervert.  I think Rudy is waaaay too moderate to actually win the republican primary.  Bush was moderate and Rudy "might" even be more so.

luckydog1 -> RE: 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/28/2007 10:17:03 PM)

Heretic, but everyone who supports her has heard all sorts of bad things about her.  This Poll has her at 41-43%.  That is more than her husband won with either time.  And those are votes she can't really lose.  Much of the right really deeply hates her, but that does not matter except to them, they would never consider voting Democrat if it was not her.  Guliani could lose 20 points in one gaffe, and seems to be in a much weaker place.   He is higher, but with a much weaker foundation.

But it is way to early to really make any sort of call.  The primaries will be very interesting, with the anti war left in the dems and the "values" right in the reps, both making the most noise.  I could imagine a situation where the Dems go far left and the Reps go hard right, and a "unity" ticket (for example Mc Cain/Lieberman) forming.  Or where centrists win in both primaries and the Left and Right go 3rd party, giving us another president elected far below the majority, with absolutly no mandate to do anything.  I think that would be very bad for the nation.

You can bank on Rudy losing the Republican primary... and I like him personally, but his positions would never fly with most of the R primary voters.

I said it a while back, and you watch here in the near future.. Fred Thompson will be the candidate.

Rudy's got ZERO chance with America's Fire Fighters hating his guts.

From the IAFF. http://firefightingnews.com/article-US.cfm?articleID=27125

quote:

The disrespect that he exhibited to our 343 fallen FDNY brothers, their families and our New York City IAFF leadership in the wake of that tragic day has not been forgiven or forgotten.

In November 2001, our members were continuing the painful, but necessary, task of searching Ground Zero for the remains of our fallen brothers and the thousands of innocent citizens that were killed, because precious few of those who died in the terrorist attacks had been recovered at that point.

Prior to November 2001, 101 bodies or remains of fire fighters had been recovered. And those on the horrible pile at Ground Zero believed they had just found a spot in the rubble where they would find countless more that could be given proper burial.

Nevertheless, Giuliani, with the full support of his Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, decided on November 2, 2001, to sharply reduce the number of those who could search for remains at any one time. There had been as many as 300 fire fighters at a time involved in search and recovery, but Giuliani cut that number to no more than 25 who could be there at once.

In conjunction with the cut in fire fighters allowed to search, Giuliani also made a conscious decision to institute a "scoop-and-dump" operation to expedite the clean-up of Ground Zero in lieu of the more time-consuming, but respectful, process of removing debris piece by piece in hope of uncovering more remains.

Mayor Giuliani's actions meant that fire fighters and citizens who perished would either remain buried at Ground Zero forever, with no closure for families, or be removed like garbage and deposited at the Fresh Kills Landfill.

The guy who treated the fallen firefighters like GARBAGE to be dumped on Staten Island? Nope. Hilary's got a better chance, and that ain't saying much.

Does it matter. In the year 2008 the United State's of America is nowhere close to electing a black man as President much less one named Obama. Hiliary will be getting clobbered too unless the Republicans vet a Morman. It would be a bit closer but she'll still lose.

I know plenty of Rank and File Fire Fighters who can't wait to vote for him.

Well, we have all kinds, don't we...

There's no accounting for those who don't support Their Brothers.

Amen to that...

Seriously though, this country isn't going to elect a black or a woman as President, It just isn't, and many in the Democrat Party know this to be true.

Don't be surprised if the Republicans sweep back into both houses if either Hils or Obama (or both) are running ESPECIALLY if the Republicans choose Thompson.

If it's Thompson it will be a 50 state landslide

cyberdude611 -> RE: 2008 Election News - Repubs Lead in Swing States (4/30/2007 4:41:01 PM)

Hillary and Obama doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning a southern state. So forget about Florida.
