... It means "beloved one" in French.

I can see where your name might be a makeshift derivative of the French word aimé or bien-aimé which means liked or belovedBeloved one would be l'aimé.

Amicia is lovely, at any rate.

Just curious how everyone got their M/s names. I have been struggling trying to come up with one for my Master, as is He for me. HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

How often does one get the chance to name themselves? Or be named by someone who really knows you as you are now?
I think it's a lovely tradition.

I decided to use the name of a school principal whom I knew. She was the typical headmistress type, very stern, with great posture. Homage to her. Not everyone calls me that, however, and I am flexible.

Yeah, I like the identity stripping aspect of being given a name and its suggestive of a specific kind of mental power.  I talked to a Master for a while who called me 'jhima,' which is sanskrit for 'someone  who's found their way,' or something.  Not sure why he picked that one except I was going by the screenname astray.

greetings,

we have different names for each other than our given names, not necessarily because they help us get into a particular subspace or as "scene" names, but simply because they better describe our nature than our given names, and they are names we chose for ourselves. mine comes from the character of a particular book, and it means "shelter"; His from someone He met earlier in life. it's not a process of segregation for us personally; i use this particular chosen name in other areas besides just in our relationship, and if i could, i'd probably change my name to it. so it's not unique to m/s for us...they're just names that describe us much better than our chosen ones.

my collarme nickname, annabelle, is just a pet name He uses for me every now and then (not my given name, nor my chosen name).

annabelle.

I began in all this online, hence I needed a screen name. I have no idea what I chose, but along the way, someone suggested the one I have now and it worked. There was nothing particularly romantic about the choosing. It just fit me.

And this is how it fit:

1) juliet and sierra are the phonetic alphabet initials for my first and last name.

2) I grew up boating on the Great Lakes at a time when, to have a ship-to-shore radio, you had to register the radio, receive and identify yourself by the call letters every time you used the radio, so we learned the phonetic alphabet in conjunction with the regular alphabet.

3) I love Shakespeare and my favorite play is Romeo and Juliet. Coincidentally, my Master's first name begins with an R. So when I get the silly questions of "who is your Master" when online, I can just say "Romeo."

3) I love the out of doors and when I think of the out of doors, one of the first things that comes to mind is the Sierra Club. I have absolutely no idea why since I don't live anywhere near the sierra mountains, but it does.

4) I have spent hours and hours of my life growing up watching submarine movies and the juliet and sierra are both submarines. I go to the water like other people go to the mountains for peace and solitude. I am a sub. I love all things marine... I am a sub-marine - just not the kind that goes off to war.

Virtually everyone that knows me in real life knows me as juliet. This is the case for a lot of reasons. Amongst them are the fact that someone I know had someone else that was able to figure out where she lived and ended up with a stalker because the guy was able to figure things out from her real name. I learned from what she went through and from that point on, only used my screen name out in public. My given name is relatively uniquely spelled and pretty easily found. I had no desire to go down her path.

Another fact is, as someone already suggested, that I have a career that is comprised of many inquisitive minds and I wanted to steer clear of those lovely little things and the problems they could cause if they found out what I do just because I used my given name.

Yet another fact is that I can keep the acquaintances I know in one given situation separate from acquaintances in another situation. Even if I don't remember their names, if they use my screen name, I know exactly where I know them from - or at least the point of reference for them knowing that name.

Finally, by using my screen name in public, my given name is kept for those I am close to. If you know my given name, you are someone I care deeply about. The nice thing about this is that whenever my Master uses my name, he uses my given name and for me, silly though it may be, I have never heard a sweeter sound than when he uses that name for me. To me, him saying my name is like a kiss. My heart beats faster, and I am thrilled.

After 8 years, it's gotten to the point where I answer as easily to juliet as I do to my given name and I like that very much.

My Master and I came up with zindy because it sounds kinda slutty to me I don't really know why and it helps me get into a certain headspace when he uses it but other than that he calls me by my birth name. He picked his name on here and really doesn't say much about him. At last I don't think so. Coming up with a name for my Master would have definately stumped me.

Well, as a sort of switch who prefers to operate in both modes simultaneously with 2 different people, I'm not likely to get upset about someone saying I have a split personality LOL! Heck, I'm a Gemini who was supposed to be twins according to the Drs ... so it's innate for me. So I really value names as something meaningful to me and to the people who use them.

When I discovered this lifestyle online, I was keen to go for anonymity. So I took my first initial and wrote it out which is how I became Maam Jay. Over time my sub side tried out various Masters, most of whom gave me a name which i liked ... eg i was starr, then pristine_rose and both of those resonated quite well with my personality. When i found He is who is still Master, He noted how much i love the colour purple ... i usually have purple nails, bright purple in my hair and it also features in my wardrobe. Knowing also that i love flowers, He suggested violet and i loved it instantly. Now W/we have moved to a totally different location, with His permission i am choosing to be more widely known as violet in this community and i really enjoy that. i will retain my birth name for work and official purposes (saves changing bank accounts, medicare etc etc!) but it is no more ME than Jay or violet is.

Having a new name is not something I would ever enforce on anyone, but I can understand why people might want one. There is a power in it, just as there is when we name a pet. It's a reflection of the personality (or dogonality LOL!), and fulfills an important role. All that said, it's been much harder finding a name for Master! When W/we met He used the screen name Major but most people think military and He's not, so He's abandoned that. He chose it in a musical sense but most people don't "get that". i rather like Aslan for Him ... it has the same initial as His birth name, i love the Narnia stories and He is a Leo *smile* but He thinks that's a bit pretentious, given who Aslan represents!

So I would just wish the OP luck in choosing the names that best fit them. Don't rush, something will evolve!

Maam Jay aka violet[A]

My given name, means "handsome" or arguably "flame" in the mother tongue of my ancestors. But that tells very little about me. I was named after an uncle, who may in fact have been handsome. His life was taken early, and I never met my uncle Ken.   A number of people  call me uncle ken, not just the neice and nephew, the odd cousin, of one rank or other. But also a group of drinking buddies who were on the whole a few years younger. I take an interest in the welfare of my friends and an odd pride when they do well. I have in fact been credited with being avuncular. I was UncKen in the early days of the internet, back in the bygone days of six character nics. But I  found that was like a red flag waved infront of every cyber county mountie, who cruised the internet and couldn't understand the most of the buddies who called me uncle ken were in their thirties  nothing to do with underage whatevers..

I settled on Evlgryn  (eVLgrYN), mostly because of random effect of genetics that gave me a triangular , slightly carnivorous, "James Coburne" grin (not so many white straight teeth). But also because it tells fellow travellers on the information superhighway something about  how I view the world.

My slave goes by fleurs as she has for years, and sometimes I affect the name Domdefleursss. It is an inside joke and a show of support for a young woman who has been active and contributed to the scene both online and in the other world where  sight and sound is joined by  feel and smell, for many years. So like an actress or a businesswoman who has an investment in her name, it never occurred to me to ask her to change it. We seldom use titles in public. I the company of  those who know the score, she refers to me simply as her owner, Less often I refer to her as my slave. What we call each other in private, intimate moments strangely often falls in line with the titles newbie ds couples confer on each other in public.  The other names are none of your business.

Denika is croation  for Morning Strar, Rob and I both liked the double entendre that the meaning has, Morning star can either be the first and brightest star in the sky that is legendary for helping those who are lost find their way. It is also the  First name of Lucifer before he fell from God's grace :)

I have used my  given name as well but am generally known in the community as denika and rarely as Sandy. Taking a name was symbolic for taking the step into being true to myself  in my journey of exploration. When I am called denika it also helps put me into the right frame of mind.  It makes it easier to identify myslef as more than my job title and as me,

denika
