hisannabelle -> what are you attached to? (5/1/2007 7:58:48 PM)

what possessions, pets, and activities are you attached to? do you always seek partners who are comfortable with these things being in your life?

the possession i am probably most attached to is my piano. i've had this one since i was about 10 years old - around a year or so after i started playing. i'm terrified that He may make me give it up when we move in a couple of years...or if He doesn't, of how i'm going to manage to get it from florida to virginia. the rest of my stuff can just be packed in some boxes, but my piano is my baby. and it was expensive/time consuming/annoying enough just to move it less than 10 miles from the house i grew up in to my apartment. next are my books. i love my books. i just managed to part with about 30 of them, and i don't know how. it doesn't seem like i really made a dent...i'm trying to downsize a bit, but so much for that. but i think i would give up kitchen cabinet space and go hungry before i'd give up my books. i'm a bibliophile to the point that it's probably unhealthy.

i don't have any pets...although i really, really, really want a goat. i don't think that's ever going to happen, though...He's not much of a pet person. He's mentioned getting a dog if we ever have a big house, but i'm not much of a dog person (actually i'm usually pretty terrified of them...i've only ever had one family dog that i really got close to).

activities that i'd find a hard time giving up...knitting, writing, journaling, making art (photography, painting, collaging). i'm really attached to those things. i think i could live with giving up knitting, and maybe painting, but i'm really happy those don't bother Him...although i hope one day to have an extra room for that kind of stuff so that i don't have to worry so much about where to store supplies, etc.

so tell me about the things you love to do, or the possessions you have that you love and can't imagine giving up, your Stuff that you're attached to :)

There are only two "things"  I'm attached to that I would never give up. I'm not going to count the people I love as things, they are irreplaceable and I would never give a single one of them up for any other person. The only actual things I would never give up are my father's books and his letters to my mother throughout the years of their marriage. It's almost like having him here again to open one of his books and read the thoughts he jotted in the margins.

My snakies.  There's not much I wouldn't do for them.   Everything else in my life (other than people) is replaceable.

My dog, my creative personality, the craft supplies and things I spent money to get, My stuffed stegosaur, I have had him since I was 17 and he means the world to me, Yes, I always search for people who are accepting of the fact things I am not willing to give up. I would never accept any one that'd want me to give up the creative crafty part of me or anything else that was vital.

my cat. i have always had a black cat, some lost to misfortune, but this one i watched being born and held him everyday, so what if he's evil.? he's beautiful to me. books, i hated twilight zone episode "time enough". being unable to reads would be a nightmare.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/1/2007 10:00:32 PM)

possession - my growing rock mementos from all the local shows i've attended - from posters and playlists to guitar picks, buttons and plastic swords & crowns (Cealed Kasket shows) to mountain of pictures and press badges. this also includes cd collection too -since i receive free merch from bands too. currently my desk is overflowing with stuff and cds - need an office!

pets - none

activities - since my work is my hobby and vice versa, i enjoy attending (sometimes no cost to me) and reviewing local shows ...my partner would have to understand i work late hours (mostly until 2 to 3a) reviewing bands/artists 2 to 3 nights a week. i could never give this up - there's always a new adventure whenever i go out. plus i couldn't give up writing my novels (almost finished with one), shopping, cooking and my friends. i probably could give up CM but not forever.

WONDERFUL topic annabelle!!

I thought of his !!  Sir seems to be some what of a packrat when it comes to his books and VHS oldies...he has whole series of videos on such like FRIENDS and taped FRAZIERS.
But his books...  ah !!
He is also VERY attached to his 2 kids... I love that about him.  He will make a seriously happy granddad.
He is also very attached to his sports shows...  "we" are on hold for sports ~~ LOL  except of course when I am given permission to slide between his thighs and get his zipper down while he seems oblivious with the remote in hand.

As for me...I also love my books ~~ of poetry.  My history books will be  added to his collection since that is his greatest interest.  I have a big assortment of childrens books I will hold onto...for grandkids [:)]

We both have cats...am not sure how they will get on... he is an extrovert, so is his cat.  We are the opposite.
My Bichon and Australian Shepherd are my kids.  And yes, he does approve as long as they dont bear kids....  LOL
I am NOT too attached to the ferrot...

I am also attached to my "stuff" from Africa and my photographs.
But my latest and greatest passion is dragonboat racing.  I told him I could not quit that for anything.... he told me, his son would be most interested....  so it looks like a keeper.

When we combine households, I am not sure if my beading equipment will be as prominent as his books.  I'll bead while he watches the sports.  And of course take myself to the bead shows... lol.  He wont go, maybe his daughter would !!
And my dragonboat paddle will still be in the closet.  It doesnt make a good wall decoration !

It will be nice to read what others write.

oh and yes ....his toy bag stays under the bed or in the closet.  I am not sure what is even in the bottom of that bag....He has been collecting for years.

My signed Sean Astin book, and my kitty I've had since I was like five.

Einzelganger -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/1/2007 10:16:04 PM)

The only two things I'm truly attached to and won't give up in almost any relationship flying and driving, but I think I could actually give up the former for the right person...but she'd have to be very, very special.

My hardback books, my laptop and external HD (where all my writing is stored), my Japanese silk-framed thingy that belonged to my great-grandfather, and my comic books.

Oh, and my gaming. Gotta have my dice and controllers.

spanklette -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/1/2007 10:43:11 PM)

Boudreaux- My genuine pound puppy. He's my heart. Daddy allowed me to adopt him, but He's all mine now and someone would have to drag me kicking and screaming away from my baby.

Charles Emerson Winchester IV (Charlie)- Daddy's genuine pound puppy whom we adopted when we realized that Boudreaux had been abused so badly that he needed a bro in order to keep him from being seriously neurotic and probably dangerous. So, he's also got a special place in my heart.

If they can't go, I won't go. The rest is really up for debate.

Those are by rock bottom lines, but there are other things that I've become attached to. Most of my books can be replaced, but there is one that's been passed down called, "...and The Ladies of the Club" You'd have to pry that one from my cold lifeless fingers.

I've become dependant on a computer...but not necessarily this one.

When I moved from New Orleans to Washington...I packed everything I could into the bed of my pick up. I realized that there were things that I thought I was attached to that I left behind and haven't thought of since.

My skills and hobbies go with me, without the trouble of luggage. Well, sort of. But, I could give up the things that I've created or helped to thrive and move on to another project. As long as I can focus on something I enjoy...It's all gravy.

Luckily enough for me, my Daddy appreciates my passion for multi-hobbying and lets me collect crap along the way.

PS. We finally got the comfiest couch ever...and I might consider risking my life if our condo were ablaze to drag that sucker out![:D]

soultoshare -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/2/2007 3:20:11 AM)

my cats...we are a package deal.  They've been with me from IL to NY to AZ, they are like my kids.  Everything else is negotiable, the cats are the deal breaker.

IrishMist -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/2/2007 5:05:35 AM)

Just my daughter; kind of real attatched to her. [8D]

SunNMoon -> RE: what are you attached to? (5/2/2007 5:43:45 AM)

My cat. He's getting older and I value all the time I get to spend with him. Also friends and family.
My teddy and a few other toys. I've had them forever and a day. My books.

The jewellery box my son made me a couple of years ago for my birthday. I know that no matter where I am in the world it will be with me. I have a vision of my bedroom when I am 70 and I KNOW that box will still be on my dressing table - except I hope by then it will have a few more real jewels in it [;)]
