Oh.  In that case, go right ahead and be offended.  Choosing to work in that industry is flat incomprehensible to me.  Or do you have some kind of fetish for polyester uniforms?

It's just not PC, Rich. When the subject comes up you must speak highly of fast-food workers just as you would were they highly successful inventors or world-famous astronauts. What's up with you anyway. Have you lost your PC Bible? Or what...

If you rag on fast-food workers, they spit in your food.

I've never worn a creamy Italian dress. Thanks, farglebargle - I think it'll go great with my Versace sunglasses!

and because it's incomprehensible to -you-, it's appropriate to make fun of it and treat people who think differently like idiots.

that's so...mature.

annabelle.

edited to add: p.s. our uniforms are not polyester. :P

i'm not saying revere fast food workers like you would doctors, or something, but there's no need to be an asshole about it, either. there IS a middle ground between being a dickhead about something and not fawning all over the idea.

Don't get me wrong, Annabelle.  I have far more respect for the polyester clad burger flippers than I do for the wastes of skin who can't hold any kind of job.  I make fun of just about everybody (including myself) at some time or another.

The incentives you listed, low stress, flexible hours, working with people you like, are all completely valid.  And staying in it for any extended period is still incomprehensible.  Those things exist in better jobs too.

Hah hah...Think of the mileage you would get from showing up at
a nudist colony with a fresh cast on your leg from sky-diving.

You could have all the babes leaning over you, bare breasts dangling
in your face, while signing your cast.

I stacked about 100 chassis this morning with my fork lift.

My chassis pit was clean, it was organized, my (it comes and goes) anal retentive gene was basking in the idea of a job well done.

After lunch, the boss lets me know that we need all the chassis on the ground for the night side.

So I unstacked about 120 chassis.

My chassis pit was a nightmare, the chassis were also down in the row next door for the night side to use.

My lack of an anal retentive gene basked in the idea that if they are not using the chassis tonight, the night side heavy lift operator will have plenty of job security.

All in a days work, I guess.

Was the boss just giving you busy work?

I feel the same way about shuffling papers around.

I find it a lot more pleasant in life to be nice and kind and mellow to everybody.  I overtip.  I clean up after myself.  I almost always volunteer when asked to do something extra.

What I find is that most people are nice and kind and mellow to me.

If you enjoy being nasty to people who are doing things for you, then go you, but it is not for me.

i am lmao - you being nice to anyone - when?  You are rude to everyone and opinionated as hell.  Both you and julia have no manners for you to say that is nothing more than a joke.  Examine your behavior cause you sure are nasty as hell to everyone.

Not really.

My job as a heavy lift in the chassis pit is to make sure chassis are stacked, or brought down when needed.

So when I show up in the morning and there are 90 chassis on the ground, I stack them.

The shipping company decided to do something on the night side (around 2pm) that required the chassis to be unstacked.

You know, that has been my impression of you too! Except I am too polite to comment randomly about people I do not know...

He does over tip, people do respond well to him, and he is a very nice person... and I imagine my opinion is worth a 1000 such like yours...

You know, a couple of weeks ago he asked you very politely not to refer to him as "Sir" because it is disrespectful. You really should get over that

lmao Julia get a grip the two of you are the rudest members on the board when someone disagrees with you.  You two are unable to stand on your own.  You have to rely on the other person to support you.   You both think being demeaning is cute which it is not.  You both are rude.  You don't respond to the questions other than to be oboxious.

Respond to the post. Sinergy doesnt need you to defend himself and you sure cant defend your behavior cause you never respond and choose to be obnoxious rather than respond to a question.

I just didn't feel right last weekend.  I was unemployed for 67 hours and it was in the back of my mind the whole time.  Just a twinge really, but I couldn't seem to really relax until I signed the paperwork for the new job, Monday morning.

What the hell happened???  I remember a weekend not that many years back, when my girlfriend and I independently quit our crappy jobs on a beautiful spring Friday afternoon.  We laughed our asses off when we both got home early and had a a few friends over to get loaded with us.  The party lasted until the money ran out, and then we ate rice until the first paycheck of the crappy new jobs.

I had the new gig lined up.  Worst case, I called my old boss and made a counter-offer to their 'stick-around' plea.  So why the hell couldn't I enjoy even joking about not having a job?  Weird.

I think part of the problem was that you are used to your old job, starting a new one invokes change in your life. As we get older we adapt to change differently. Perhaps it is the change in general that causes these feelings, instead of any rational fear? I know whenever I change things in my life, it is an uneasy feeling.

Edited to add, I hope the new job is going well for you.

Unless, of course, you are assigning a nice set of straw-man values to anyone who doesn't agree with your positions....   Some of us are just more sensitive and caring than others I suppose.
