It's fricking rude...please stop. There are PLENTY of threads on the boards that you can argue 'til your heart's content. Do you really have to muck up threads that are not intended to become political debates?

I have been guilty of highjacking a thread. I do agree with you that it has reached a point of annoyance. We are well aware of the political climate- and it will simply discourage people from posting or particpating if this mess keeps getting in the way of other matters.

I was looking for some happiness in the thread this OP is referring to. Anyhow- for what it is worth people tend to vote with their feet and move on to other sites when bombarded with lectures that enver end.

No one here is paid. If it isnt fun- it is work- and I dont work for free.

Because quite frankly it's the SAME people, posting the SAME bullshit, over and over and over and over!

I wonder when Torture, Rape and Murder committed in our name became anything but a MORAL issue, and is tagged as "Political"?

Isn't calling it "Political" an easy way of dismissing our own culpability for that Torture, Rape and Murder done in Our Name?

We need to deal with this, either now, or when St. Peter tosses our asses into the Eternal Fiery Pit.

I agree.  I rarely get into political discussions online because I get enough of that in real life.  If I ever want to hear an opposing viewpoint, I can always make a nice trip to my parents' or grandparents' house and get everything all rolled up into one lecture:  politics, religion, and various other personal issues.  I don't mind the political threads, but I usually avoid them because this is supposed to be my destressing time.

My point is that there are PLENTY of other threads for you to DEAL with it on...do you really need to take it to threads that are totally irrelevant??????????

People should post what they feel like where they feel like, because that is their freedom to do as they like...

I always wonder something, seriously, why people become offended by what other people do that has nothing to do with them. It is really easy to find things to become offended over (I certainly have been guilty of it myself), but seriously, why be offended, pestered, annoyed by words posted here?

There are a lot of more important things to be troubled over, in my view (mind you, opinions are like assholes, and mine stinks about as much as the average) if people offend you or annoy you because of how they choose to act, block em! They are not hurting anyone by expressing a political view.

Yes, but the people who make the threads all that more interesting (esp. when they fight amongst themselves) are dropping out of here like flies!

The only people who try and turn every thread into a political debate are the apologists for the neocons and Bush's failed policies. If they would just admit their fearless leader is a clueless idiot, everything would be hunky dory around here.

heh heh heh

If I turn on my tv set to watch an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" I am expecting to see an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond". I am expecting entertainment. I am not expecting to turn it on and be bombarded by an abortion debate, some holy roller telling me I am going to hell because I don't send enough money to their cause, a heated debate on the pros and cons of the war or anything other than an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond". The same goes with threads here....I have an expectation that the subject being discussed will at least in some way relate to the topic. I avoid the political threads for that very reason....because I am just sick to death of seeing the same people spouting the same crap over and over again.

I guess I should post to the "What's great about America"  thread again because I was just reminded that one of the greatest things about America is that you can be a rude asshole and somebody will stand up and defend your right to be one.

Well, thanks for your contribution (Footnote 1) but the CORRECT answer was "Off Topic Discussion".

Footnote 1: Keep in mind, as to your credibility, that when asked if it was OK to rape a prisoner, you responded:
"If she was nice looking HELL YEAH! And if I thought it would help get that information out of them. "

More important question for me in my life, why am I allowing myself to be emotionally impacted by the rude asshole? I have allowed this myself, and I am more and more choosing not to be. I may only have one go at this thing people call "life", I do not want it to be spent on worrying about policing where people choose to express themselves.

This is a forum, not a static television show in which we can have some expectation of anything. I find when I have some expectation of other people, I am often disappointed. I find myself lately (very recently I might add) trying just to let people be who they are, and being who I am.

I do not expect anything, if I find people annoying, I bypass their posts. I certainly do not expect them to stop what they are doing to please me, why should they? What you find rude someone else may not (actually I don't find it rude, I do not care where people choose to express their ideas, that is what the moderator is for, as long as they are not personally attacking me).

I just see it differently.

You know there was this talk I was listening to and the speaker (Wayne Dyer) told a story about how he likes to jog in the halls of the hotels that he stays at. He hates exercise machines, and it is easier than finding a place outside to jog. He said he was amazed at how this behavior offended people, one guy said to him "How dare you run around outside my room, how rude you are"

You know, it is easy to find reasons to be offended, it is just as easy to find beauty in things if a person wants to... these days I am really trying to find the beauty... Happiness is truly the way

Fargle, what difference would it make if they were going to be executed anyway?
Also, if by my raping a prisoner I could save a hundred or even one life I'd do it, wouldn't you?
What's all this calling for fair play by us but the absense of calling for fair play by the enemy stuff?
As for my "credibility" I don't find it neccessary that I think of myself as "better" than terrorists but if you need that kind of self- affirmation knock yourself out.

Everything is political.  It's as simple as that.  Even your "Everybody Loves Raymond" example can be a political issue--where are the minorities on that show?  What's the deal with Raymond's unmarried brother--Is the show anti-family because he's unmarried and his parents seem so dysfunctional?  Does the show accurately display the standard of living that the average journalist can afford to maintain on the East Coast?  I forget if Raymond's wife works or not, but I think she doesn't.  Is she anti-feminist?  If she does work, is she anti-family?

This is a tongue in cheek example, but I think it demonstrates how everything is political to somebody.

Summary Executions are how the Nazis and Commies operate, not how Americans do. If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand.

quote:

Also, if by my raping a prisoner I could save a hundred or even one life I'd do it, wouldn't you?

Would I rape a prisoner in my custody? No, of course not. The problem with the "if it could save a hundred or even one life" logic, is that if you'll rape someone for a GOOD reason, you'll do it for ANY reason.

And for me, there is NO REASON GOOD ENOUGH.

quote:

What's all this calling for fair play by us but the absense of calling for fair play by the enemy stuff?

The difference between them and us is that WE supposedly do not tie people to chairs and beat them.

If there's NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM AND US, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU FIGHTING **FOR**?

It sure as hell ain't "Truth, Justice, and The American Way".

What I find amusing about this thread is that somebody actually took time out of their day to complain because all the kids in the sandbox were not willing to play by her rules.

Ummm, ok.
