Greetings Archer,

Wonderful post :-) i just finished reading "Leatherfolk" by Mark Thompson and it was a fascinating read. i certainly have a greater appreciation of the movement and the term "Master".

Loved the book myself. The story by Thom Magister has to be my favorite, even though I can't read it without something invariably blowing into my eyes :'(

Like a few others here, leather to me means warmth, those days and nights that see temps in the 40s and below. Makes for a much more gooder ride. Sure it helps with road rash, but even still I won't break out my leathers till the temp is right.

I hear ya there... the only time I've worn chaps in the summer was at Sturgis and I wanted to wear shorts to walk around town.. the first trip in to town I didn't bother, I got smacked by a big ass hard shell bug in the leg... ouch! After that I wore the chaps in and took them off when I got there.

if archer chimes in here i can probably just say ditto to whatever he has to say - he, to me, is an excellent example of a leatherman

I would like to add that other that being an exellent example he goes out of his way to share the morals and values he holds dear as a leatherman and is extremely talented at promoting understanding of exacly what it is that being of the Leather foundation means. He has devoted his life to sharing education and the core foundation of what he not only believes but lives.
Archer and Elegant are foundation stones of the community whether they realize it or not and I dont just say that because I like em.

My family and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Archer and Elegant.  I am not surprized by the significance they hold within your community.  Both are indeed individuals of positive character and exemplify Leather in the context of a code of conduct.

and if the Leather community every has an Olympic Leather event.. Archer is sure to carry the torch....... be sure to ask Elegant what this means.

Oh Elegant.. If Archer doesn't have it yet... you need to find him Leather Shorts and a Leather Muscle Shirt!  He reall should look the part!

Thanks to all that posted in this thread....  I suspect for many Leather is just that... Leather.

But for some their is a history and community that comes with the Label.  I never really considered myself Leather.  Mainly because I do not Identify with it's past and largely I am not an active part of a community, leather or otherwise.

However, Leather does embode a sense of conduct and character to me.  It is this aspect of the Leather lifestyle that I find most appealing.  This  is what Leather is becoming to mean to me.

I have a fetish for leather, so it targets all My senses; the visual, that lovely crunching sound, the feel, the scent, the triggers it sends off  when I dress and wear it, and also to My subs/slaves/players.

I am always expanding My leather-drobe, and adding new items of clothing.boots/gloves to My collection. Gloves, long long leather, boots, shoes, corset dresses, and I am having some leather jodphurs designed and made too. I like the military styles of leather which I have to also acquire, and leather in different colours appeal to Me also.

I keep all My leather bagged air tight, to keep that lucious scent long lasting mmmmm.

I have a collection of leather hoods for Mine, and I always use leather restraints in My play. I desire more restrictive leather items to add to My arsenal also.

Leather what does it mean to me---several things.   The Leather Community---the stuff that a whip might be made out of, the material coats and chaps are made out of so when someone gets drunk and crashes their bike they won't have to spend the night in jail with wicked road rash, what one thinks EVERYONE in the BD/SM community wears, what tacky furniture from the 70's is made out of, what comes from hide of cows or deer,

Leather is coming home.  Leather is 'my people'.  Leather is commitment to honor and integrity.  Leather is blood, sweat, and tears all in the name of an ideal that we all stuggle to aspire to.  Leather is my family.  Leather is the smell and feel of intensity.  Leather is honesty, tradition, and truth.

This is some of what Leather means to me.

First thoughts that pop in my head when I hear the word leather  is Satan's Choice, Hells Angels, Outlaws and Friday the 13th in Port Dover, I grew up in a city with 2 biker gangs made friends from onr of the gangs and attended some of theit house parties in my younger days.  I know there  is a leathermen community on TO but only found about during recent searches  while researching BDSM
