KnightofMists -> the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:15:49 PM)

This topic has come up from time to time... and it actually has been on the list for abit.  Now motivation for starting this thread is alittle more personal and I will share that in a moment.

So my questions... what value do you place on the profiles with pictures.  Do you ignore profiles without pictures out right.  Do you automatically assign more value to a profile with picture(s).

Now the motivation:  I received a kindly email this evening.  The person was kind enough share with me that they saw another profile that was rather obviously a picture of me... but with the face cropped out.  Needless to say.. this event had a serious reinforcement of questioning the picture of a profile.  It also caused me to wonder.... do people also copy the words too.  Am I reading this person's words or maybe someone else!

so what are your thoughts?

Kaiynasha -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:21:15 PM)

KOM I do not ignore photos nor do I just give mine out too quickly. I know that many subs use visual imagery as a form of stimulation. Also to decide whether they will continue speaking with the person. People need to learn how to communicate and stop depending on looks.  So, I make it  difficult. One has to work hard to see my photo.

I have heard of photos being copied and even words lifted from other profiles. I don't know why trolls and lamers do this, but more than likely they have nothing else better to do with their time. Or they do have time, and that is too copy and paste.

IrishMist -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:21:47 PM)

I actually place very little value on pictures that are on profiles; just as I place very little value on the words written in the profiles.

I prefer to hear what someone has to say, meet them, and then go from there.

I can understand being a bit ... miffed?... that someone might have stolen your picture or the words from your profile...however think of it this way...your pictures and your words much be pretty powerful if another has to 'steal' them away.

I don't place any more value on a profile with pictures than I do without one.  Some people are fortunate enough to be able to put a full-face pic in their profile and never fear any repurcussions or problems.  I guess I envy that.  I am not so blessed.  The types of jobs I've held since joining CM could present me with a problem should they find out all about my presence here and thus read of my personal life in detail.  I just don't think it wise at all to plaster my face there for the world wide web to see.

However, there are several posters here who have seen photos of my face.  After speaking with them either through the forums, private email and/or phone calls, I trust them enough to share that.  The way I look at it is this:  One can always share more information but it's awfully hard to take back what you've disseminated once it spreads.  I prefer to err on the side of caution.

Plus, I wouldn't want to think someone is just agreeing with me on the forums 'cause I have great tits[:D].  One's mind may be respected more if a gorgeous face isn't plastered beside it.  It's nice when someone likes what I write and I know it's not because they like my pic.  Some of the greatest minds here don't show their face (cough....ownedgirlie....cough) and that doesn't take away one bit of their "value" in my eyes.................luci

LadyHibiscus -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:33:53 PM)

I place a lot of value on pictures, and even if someone doesn't have a pic on their profile, I do want to see one of their face before we meet.  Do I think less of those that don't have pictures posted?  No, of course not.

My mom has this thing about "eyes" where she looks at a person's expression via their eyes, and can tell if they are mean or not.  I have to agree with it---if a person's expression doesn't click with me, or if they are just obviously weird/icky, that picture is worth a thousand words.  It's another screening tool.  I go from online to realtime meetings quickly if I am interested in a person.

RRafe -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:35:46 PM)

Back after ten days of dealing with an idiotic isp. I look at pictures-but they only show a surface attraction. Some surfaces attract me, others tend to reflect me away-initially. (I'm shallow that way)

I ran my picture for long enough that people here could get an idea of who was behind the words. I have no problems with sharing it with those who interest me enough. Beyond that?

There are a huge number of indefinable things that attract and excite human beings.....Very few come through with total impact in a sterile medium such as this. If someone steals a picture-it tells me they are lazy-and trying to use a mask. This is really stupid-that mask will be torn away the instant you look someone in the eye-in the flesh world. And thier very first impression will be..............

The person I am looking at is a coward-and liar-I think it's time to go.[&:]

psssssst Irish... keep this quiet.... but I figure dropping the nic... well it will generate alot of activity for the guy checking out the profile... he gonna get all excited that people are checking him out.....   the irony is.. the mind game he is trying to play.. is being played on him.  me hopes he doesn't read the forums

Aeon -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:39:38 PM)

I haven't had anyone steal any of my pictures as of yet.  But I DID notice a new submissive here recently that had clearly taken a good portion of her profile from mine. Some of it verbatem and some paraphrased.  *Shrugging*  I guess that's a compliment??  It is frustrating to know that I've poured out my soul and really put alot of thought into what I've said and then some lazy girl comes along and reaps the benefits.  But, I can easily see that the greater concern is, indeed, how she is misleading those who read her profile.
As far as the value people place on a picture I have to say that it never ceases to amaze me the effect that a visual image can have on the human brain.  (You should hear some of the offers I get just based on my photos...lol)  Couple that with the everflowing vein of insecurity and self-consciousness that seems to run just under the surface of most people and I can 100% believe that someone would feel compelled to lift your pic.  The sad truth is that there is no limit to what certain people will do in order to "look their best".  (And You have to wonder what they think is going to happen if and when they DO meet someone they like and it comes time to meet in person.  ???)  I myself have been deceived, at least for a short while, by men who either show pictures of someone completely different than themselves or a much younger version of themselves.  The truth, inevitably, ALWAYS comes out in the end.  I don't see the motivation. but I know people.  And sadly, it doesn't surprise me.

awww that's so sad he used your pic...how did he do that and what a schmuck!  Although, it is a hot pic!

grlneedstolearn -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/19/2007 7:45:23 PM)

Because i choose not to post a pic, due to personal reasons, i don't really place a lot of value with people without pics. i will though ask and share one once i get comfortable with the person that i'm talking to.

Oh yes,very very special.

Did I mention how much evil I learned by bottoming to a Domme, way back when? Sort of set the tone for the future-the lovely sensaul and elegant aspects-and the purity of understanding-sex has power-if you can control your own-you can control that of others.

I'm afraid that the picture thief is soon to learn that attention is not always a good thing.
