That was my point Chaingang. I know i can't make rational decisions when i am in space. Bad things can happen, my dom can take things too far because im not able to respond. We do all of this with an element of risk involved. I don't have to drink to relax, its something i choose to do, and i do so responsibly. If you choose not to drink at all, then great if that works for you. I believe in drinking in moderation. It works for me. I don't see how it makes me less of a responsible person within the community.

Exactly so, justatoy2! Much of this thread is just the usually absurd drug prejudices we see people exhibit from time time. Sugar, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, salt, THC, LSD, cocaine, MDA, psilocybin. DMT, chocolate, adrenalin, endorphins, Beeman's pepsin gum, etc - everyone has their drug(s) of choice. Why get all uppity about it?

I agree about limiting people's options in a public play space if that's what people want to do. Power Exchange in SF technically doesn't allow you to have unsafe sex on the premises - as a consequence I hardly ever go there. That's my call and not their's. But it's their venue, so it's a take it or leave it kinda thing.

I just find it odd that someone would be so bold as to say they can't "respect" someone else's decision about how to be a responsible adult when it ideally effects only the persons making those decisions for themselves. Personally, I can't respect anyone that can't respect a "live and let live" attitude when it's no skin off their nose what other people are doing.

Call me crazy...

I respect people and the choices they make.Whether I agree or not.

Its not up to Me to judge how others play.

Just like someone said about "edge play" one persons edge is anothers center of the bed.

chaingang, i think the operative word there is "ideally."

yes, natural chemicals our bodies make can cloud our judgment. yes, nicotine and caffeine, etc. are considered drugs. however, illegal drugs and alcohol in most cases have a much stronger effect on our judgment than just legal and natural drugs. this isn't about drug prejudices; it's about limiting the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs to the point that we can. i would not want someone on lsd at a play party, sorry, but if you want to use lsd otherwise, by all means, go for it. you won't hear any judgment from me.

ideally people's choices would only affect themselves. in reality, they affect people around them.

But if you have a safe-word then alcohol and drug use would be okay, because a safe word provides a blanket of invincibility. - Right?

I think Pat Kennedy used his to avoid a sobriety test. His safe word, you ask? "I'm a Kennedy!"
