If you had a loved one suffering from anorexia would you help them to see themselves as fat and encourage them to get lyposuction?

http://www.charismanews.com/opinion/clarion-call/59565-the-entire-lgbt-narrative-just-crumbled

I'd order out for a pizza, extra cheese, meat lovers! Two big bottles of Coca Cola! The smell alone would get them.

Sounds like a plan!

FR

It's hard to believe anyone's still peddling this crap in 2016.

Then again, maybe it's not.

This study, conducted by world renowned Johns Hopkins University scientists Dr. Lawrence S. Mayer and Dr. Paul R. McHugh, is a meta-analysis of data from over 200 peer-reviewed (and left-leaning) studies regarding "sexual orientation" and "gender identity.

They may have reviewed peer reviewed studies, but that doesn't mean that their analysis of those studies are legitimate. By avoiding publishing their findings in peer-reviewed journals, they avoided having their own findings critiqued by their peers. But their colleagues made their opinions known, regardless.

Yes well... we just don't know... and the only ones who really have a clue are the people who are experiencing it first- hand, i would think.

Exactly. Which would help those people immensely if the authors would acknowledge that as well.

or the sake of argument, why does it matter whether or not sexual preference is biologically determined?

It is a political tempest. The line was drawn in the sand by Christian Fundamentalists on the “choice” side and the LBJTQ community on the side of “genetic determinism.” The Q btw includes the members of the BDSM community.

The political consequences were as follows:

The Fundies were able to reach back into Calvinist Doctrine and assert that (1)the LBGTQ were devoid of Grace and thus condemned to the everlasting torments of Hell, (2) since the LBGTQ malady was not set in rigid gene template they could change their behavior with the help of the church and attain everlasting Paradise.

OTOH, Queers seized upon some research from the 70s or 80s (whenever Harvey Milk was elected before his assassination) which claimed gay preference was inborn. The research for a gay wired disposition was since revealed to be flawed. But that didn’t matter. Not only did the acceptation become the issue that elected Harvey, it became the rallying cry at the center for the equal marriage legislation and court decisions that proved to be vital for the advances of the last decade.

The controversy is still alive and trashing about. I expect the new Administration, Lead by the VP, will lead the charge to roll back same sex marriage based on this divisive and nebulous controversy. Reportedly, Gov. Pense is notoriously anti-LGBTQ.

Personally, I have searched for confirmation of the genetic basis for LGBTQ but I haven't found it. No gay gene, sorry. But, that does not confirm the Christian proposition either. Strong, maybe irreversible, personality characteristics can develop through environmental interaction during development of individual personality.

It's kind of ironic since Christiam fundamentalist believe in 'Predetermination'. So even their very salvation isn't really a choice.

Far more important than "some research" to most of us was the experience of our own lives. I don't think I've ever met an LGBTQ person who had a moment of choosing his or her orientation. I'm also struck by how my friends from not merely high school but elementary school turned out to be fellow gay boys. Even before we had words for who were, we found one another and knew we were different.

When did I choose to be straight..??????
I didnt.
Does anyone have the date to when they decided to be gay, or straight?

I hear you. I had similar experience with my orientations. However, I recall pertinent pre-pubescent games. So, the issue for me remains what influences guided my development before age ten? I can recall a few. We would have to reach back much further to parse genetic factors. I am not convinced I will find anything. I am awaiting for speculative correlations in genome commonality. It will take that to convince me.

Fair enough. But nongenetic doesn't necessarily mean chosen.

Maybe it wasn't a conscious choice. Maybe you are who you are because of your time and place during the time of your childhood development. The claim is made that we remember very little from before the age of seven. But influences occurred that shaped our personalities. Not having a choice does not necessarily mean you were born that way; it could mean you grew that way without choice.

Setting the table for Thanksgiving, I realized choosing to be gay would give me a better chance of inheriting the china.

Ironically, though, it now appears too kitschy for my refined, homo tastes.
