Studying for "Jeopardy!"

I went for a Jeopardy! audition yesterday, and I think it went well. Of course, it's still a one-in-six (or more) chance that they'll actually invite me to play.

Just in case, though, I figured I should bone up on my two weak points: sports and popular culture. Problem is, I'm not quite sure how. I've gathered the rest of my collection of trivial facts magpie style, plucking here and there over the years. I'm not sure how quite how to do it systematically.

So . . . any advice for techniques or resources for getting up to speed on sports and popular culture?

Status: offline 		A friend of mine was on the show "The Weakest Link" when it was on at night....It was hysterical.....Christ I don't know where one would to begin brushing up on pop culture?...It might kill your brain but maybe read a few "People" mags...Sports way too much of a volume of material....Just hope for the best that this subject mater won't come up...Baseball Encyclopedia...Football Encyclopedia...And then know what teams are located in what cities..Would be one way to start.

Best of luck.

But no really good advice, especially for "sports" and "popular culture".  Those are two areas where I have my greatest weaknesses.  I don't care about sports, and feel that "popular culture" is so ... well ... vacuous and vapid. And paying too much attention to it will leave your mind the same way.

For pop culture try the trivial pursuit type of games. For sports try any current sports almanac. I have some trivia sites I will have to dig up for you and of course you can download Jeopardy and play it in your spare time. Try their interactive games as well as the Playstation game. Some of the area bars have an interactive trivia night or game to play as well. Try going to that and just answering the questions. Best of luck and you better let me know when you're on!

I'll put in my request for a loan now, that's how confident I am. Hey I have tuition to pay off ya know!

I'll try to find the trivia sites and get them to you on the other side!

Pop culture...starts in the 1950 goes through the present...
"People" magazine as mentioned and E! Online...e-mail one of the
guys on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and ask for him to train you.
 
(And I used to know all of their names on the American Edition 
  but am too exhausted between school and allergies to remember

Let me help you out here...

Sports:  One side always has a higher point count than the other.

(The ones with the higher point count....they're the winners).

Popular Culture;  The answer is Brittainy Spears.

I'd draft a breakdown list of all the different sports, and the then reseach the highlights and milestones for each one as it applies to the sport itself and specific individuals.

Status: offline 		       We tend to remember things we care about.  If you don't give a rip about sports and pop culture, cramming on back issues of "People" might do more harm than good.  Find a venue on this great wide internet where the topics are discussed from your point of view.  Look for places where they despise, oh, let's say Paris Hilton, as much as you do, and read the posts critical of the whole culture.  Find comedians who take it on, or even start reading the Jay Leno monologues.  If you want 'just the facts,' spend an afternoon reading just the people section of USA Today or a preferred local paper.

    Good luck, sounds like a lot of fun.
