I never thought this would happen to me, but another user wrote me today and told me someone is using my main profile photo.

How do you stop this? I wrote to support but is there something else one can do?

I cannot slap the hell out of the person through my monitor. Jeez.

this is why i actually joined this site. i found someone who taken my pics from another site, so i signed up here and sent them a rude message. they deleted the profile and buggered off, which was good. and then i kind of stayed.

it is annoying as hell. especially as whoever did it put me as a straight sub!

have to pity people like that who are so pathetic they steal pics.

some sites don't allow the copy keys to work. Maybe that should be introduced.

it's more than that sexyred, but that could almost be classified as identity theft. so they take your photo, then what?
who is deceived in the process?

i don't know what to suggest but you should do something that's for sure.

I have had this happen more times than I can remember. I have it happen on another site quite often but when I call their customer service/support.. it is taken care of pretty quickly.

I've had people contact me on this site telling me they thought I lived in "other places" because they saw my picture in a different state... to date when I have asked the person where did you see it or what was the name of the account, they never get back to me. So, I wonder if I have a twin or if someone else is using my pics... oh well.

In the end, only I can be the one that would show up to a real face to face meeting.... if someone is just yanking someone elses chain with my photo there isn't much I can do about it unless that person who is getting yanked around actually stumbles upon the real me & I have a chance to prove, hey--I'm the real me!

The forum mods on this site totally rock! However, they can't help you with this & the Support on the other side of this site totally blow... good luck with getting help on this.

I know, I have sent some emails to support, but there is no phone number or anything else to speed this process up. I have been a long time user of CM and I am sad that someone decided to steal my photo, not flattered.

I am not a 29 year old Lesbian from St. Louis, Missouri.

Some people are truly, truly pathetic. I give up.

ah, of course...since it is free, you can do what you like. I like the idea of deactivating the copy photo button. It would never occur to me that someone would just copy someone's photo.

its been happening for years

I'm amazed you haven't heard of it before.

There actually use to be programs that would capture images when they are loaded onto the net or sent via online services.

I recall about 10 yrs ago or so of having someone I was just getting to know send me a picture. They just happen to be sending out a picture of a very good friend of mine. I played along... he gave me a couple more... I get on the phone & call the friend. I went ahead & set up a meeting with the guy & had my friend come along to meet him.

Yall can imagine the look on that guy's face. We were actually both rather shocked he showed up.

Just goes to show that STUPID has no limits!

It isn't so much a matter of people can just do as they like... it is more about there is only so much that they, the hosts of this site, can do.

Do you have any idea what it would cost to set up & operate a phone based customer service? This site is international... not only would it need to be a multiple line phone system with several operators & 24 hrs a day it would also have to be multilingual.

Oh, of course I have heard of this practice, I just thought that if you were going to steal someone's photo, it would be some model or porno star, not a regular girl like me, LOL

I'm not real familiar with watermarking, though i do have the ability to watermark with my photo program. In the little research i've done i don't know that it would keep your pics from being stolen. It does allow you the means of proving ownership of your photos as well as allow you to track how and where your photos are being used on the Internet, among other things. You have a digital number, registered to you, attached to you photos with a company like Digimark which proves the pics are yours and allows you to "follow" what is happening with them.

Photo programs that include the ability to watermark are fairly common and some are a lot easier to use than others. Personally, i like Paint Shop Pro, but if you don't want to purchase a program or if you feel the technology to use the program is beyond your ability you should at least be able to find a friend that you trust that already has a program and get them to do the watermark for you.

I see a few of the posters here that don't seem to mind that their photo was stolen and used elsewhere, but i would hope they would reconsider. Let's suppose that you are a woman whose photo is stolen by a man so that he can pose as a woman (and it happens a LOT!). Eventually people will start to realize that the person, represented by that photo, is a fake. If those same people then come accross YOUR profile with YOUR photo they won't even realize that you are the legitimate owner of the photo. They will just assume you are the same fake pulling another scam. So i would strongly suggest that, if possible, you do try to protect your photos from being stolen and abused.

there are more drawn-out ways to do this, but for the less-savvy among us, just open your photo in MS Paint or whatever you've got and add text across the front of the image that says your username or something so that it covers part of the image and can't just be cropped out.
