i have had several people steal my photo....when i have encountered a person that had been fooled by a theif i was able to give another but similar one i have the color version.....i only put up the black and whites!!!...guess the odds of a theif beign able to do that isnt very great...but well i concider my photo to be a piece of artwork..so for me it is a matter of a compliment even though there are those that arent using it as such. i have been to a few places (private dungeons) that have assorted pics of pretty girls up...and low and behold mine was one of them I foudn that to be a high compliment and actually signed it for the fella.... hey if he was willint to get the pic elnarged to poster size i was more than milling to sign it.

I did offer to sell him a high resolution color version which he did go for to replace the low quality you get from enlarging from copying an image and enlarging...one never knows when opportunity will strike

The watermarking suggested by other users seems like a good idea. And you can use Paint or a similar program to write your username across the middle of the pic (or across your face) with a text box. Very simple, and if you have Windows, you have Paint.

Also, disabling the copy feature does stop some people from copying your photo, but in general, if it can be viewed, it can be copied. Copying it might take longer, or the copy may be nowhere near the quality of the original. However, that wouldn't matter to some people. Making it harder to swipe your particular picture might send them off to look for easier pickings though.

BTW, I'm guessing that they opted for your picture instead of a covergirl pic because yours looked "real" as well as attractive. Sort of a backhanded compliment, but not one that I have ever appreciated (it's happened to me before, too).

To the opening post

Anyone can steal anyone else's photo from anywhere and claim to be that person. Someone could steal a photo off any site and present it as themselves, and if I worried about this I would take my photos off the internet. It is the only fool proof way to stop that. Look at the front page of this site and all the pretty girls that have their photos on it, do you think that they knew that their face image was going to be selling a site advertising easy sex? I doubt that they did.

If you find someone stealing your picture. try to find out who they really are and if they have money. <grin> Using another's photo without a release or permission can be a pricey thing to do.

I do consider anything put on an internet site out there to be grabbed. But I do object to people posting my work elsewhere without my permission. I only put on the net old stock photos and silly self portraits. I never post anything I intend to make money from.

BTW, if you want to, you can acutally watermark a photo with Microsoft Paint. Set the font to "transparent", put a copyright notice across, then save as another filename. There are programs for the hidden watermarks that cost some change, but a visible notice is easy to do.

As said before using prntscrn does the same as copying. The best idea is the watermark. I think it's sad someone has to steal pics, but that's the risk we take when posting photos online.

I had it happen to me with another site and was of course upset, contacted the site and guess what?!?!? They do not care! If you put it out there is is free for the taking. It is not CM's or any other similar site's responsibility.

Consider it either flattering or a lesson learned. That's about all you can do.

i was in a yahoo club years ago. well- someone copied 6-8 of our IDs and started a fight- it was quite amusing in a way.

i ran into a profile where the guy was very hot- well- as it turned out- his ex posted him as gay. he had been reciving odd calls. i TOLD him where to look for the site. he said he knows who did it. he was appreciative someone told him what happened.

this type of thing isnt limited to the net. in paper ads before the net took off- i had a "reply" with a picture- feel free to show up at his job. this guy was not as receptive to an anwere and told me- if he came to me- i would not be happy. he sorta shot himself in the foot- as if an ex did this per one time- there could have been a dozen simmilliar stunts.
