I love being marked. I love looking in the mirror and seeing the bruises. It's a bit like seeing something that someone took the time to make or find for me. It just makes me smile and remember that Valyraen loves me enough to hurt me.

i too love to wear His marks.....unfortunately, i don't retain a bruise now like i did in the beginning.  MK can leave welts that i feel for days, so i do have reminders, but it sort of sucks not having a visible reminder.  Except, for some reason, i now have a permanent mark on my calf where he used my strop on me.......it never did bruise, it just looks like a faded red mark in the shape of the end of the strop.

There is a difference in competition between subs and the perception of competition between subs.  Competition exists when two parties desire a single prize.  That said, when both parties do not desire the same prize, a competition cannot exist.

One must take into consideration the source of the "ow" and the "don't touch me there" before assuming a competition exists.  If an inexperienced Dom marks an inexperienced sub, she will want an excuse to show them off to others to exhibit her progress and the progress of her new Dom.  We’ve all known a first time mother that has aches and pains that she is sure are being experienced for the first time in the history of pregnant women, so she competes with other mothers for the “Greatest Aches and Pains Award”.
* eyeroll *

However, if a third time mother (keyword - experienced) were talking about her back aches with an equally experienced third time mother, it could be drawn that this conversation stemmed from a place of equality, or "Don't you hate when that happens?".  It could also be from a position of a common shared experience where both mothers have experienced the same aches and pains from the same source, therefore it becomes sharing as opposed to competing or taunting, nor do the experienced care about the “Greatest Aches and Pains Award”.

I would have to echo the sentiments of several others in this thread that the marks left by a Dom are like a gift that give both the Dom and the sub pleasure.  The Dom can admire His/Her handiwork and the sub can remember what their Dom gave specially just to them.  The keys in the “to show others or not to show others” question are simply the source and motivation.

As many have said for me to be marked is to belong.

When my man leaves a mark its like being branded. I am his, like wearing a collar almost.... I am owned by him & no one else. This is the greatest feeling i the world as I have volunteered myself to him and endured for him... I have then earnt my right to be his.

We live 200 miles apart so if the marks last a week or so while we are apart I still feel him close... I am reminded of the comfort & safety of being his.

To add, I can flog, crop, cane without leaving a single mark, a skill that I have utilised over time. Also, some subs are okay with disclosing that marks may be inflicted as long as they are not visable within a few days or so.

I have found, it is often harder to find a Dominant who CAN leave marks...many are not able to do more than make a butt warm.

But, I'm curious, what skill is involved leaving no marks?   I would say the skill is in marking...and not permanently injuring.

Am I off base, here?

On the contrary, there is more skill involved in "not marking". The reason being is gauging and controlling the impact, especially with floggers,  striking enough to inflict a sensation/impact, but without leaving a marks at all.

To mark is much easier, control is still paramount, yet having more of a free scope to mark with various implements, varying strokes and impact.

Well, we will have to agree to disagree, then; because I find it otherwise.

I have a heavy elk-skin flogger with about 30 18" falls that I can hit a body with...full out (and I'm not a tiny, little thing) yet this flogger will do nothing but warm up a back a bit.  I could not mark a body with this flogger if I tried to.

I also have other, very nasty whips that...with very little effort, I could lay a back open and bloody.  I have to really watch my tendency to use them with overly enthusiastic swings or the play will have to quit sooner than later.

I also love my various canes...one can tap, tap, tap a backside and leave no marks...or come down seriously and leave a six-inch welt that will bleed.  Harder is more difficult again, as the cane will wrap and leave yet another mark around the hip...unless one is very careful.  I do not like to wrap...but I like to leave welts.

Especially with my knives...it is most delicious to use one to cut wax off a torso in one large piece, as if filleting the body.  Care must be taken not to do exactly that, however!  Even dragging the knife point down the front of a body...around nipples etc or the other side...dipping into the cleft of the buttocks; one must exercise skill not to nick the anus.

In my opinion, while varying strokes and impact surely makes the time more fun and better ramps up endorphins...when those strokes are breaking the skin; the dance becomes more delicate and more difficult.

But...that is just me,
B

Bounty,

I couldn't agree more about the marks, but actually...I was serious when I said it is sometimes hard to find Doms who WILL leave such marks.

I know a wonderful whipthrower who has flogged and singletailed me...yet has never left more than a warm back.  Odd, huh?  His whip really IS like a sweet kiss...but I prefer the bite!

I suppose My artistic creative flair takes over, as I like to personalise My art marks, not just geared towards tools and implements. Like many replies to this discussion, many submissive's enjoy receiving and admiring the marks of their Dominant, yet, I needed to see the balance of importance for all subs.

I use pinching, wax in artistic patterns, nail marks with My nails, punch marks, slap marks, twisting of the flesh with My fingers, heels marks, scratching, slapping  etc, not just relying on My tools and implements.

Regarding CP and caning, I am a perfectionist, so every stroke (with consent of marking), is accurate and never wraps the hips. I never miss a stroke, and connect each stroke accurately and precisely. I suppose I take My art very seriously, when I display such on My website. I have viewed many CP dangerously aimed photographs all over the net/websites. Some do not understand the danger of high kidney area strokes, or careless erractic strokes is shocking, yet that is them.

I have 15 floggers, 2 single-tails, a signal whip, a bull whip, 15 various canes, 15 paddles, 2 dressage whips, and 6 crops, so it is not the tools persay, but the practioner using them.

I do thank all the subs that disclosed they cannot be marked, maybe over time their buttocks have become (a UK term) hardened to play, a "hard bottom". This I have found with a few subs that I have had in My presence, needed more perserverence, many variations of tools and inflictions, yet I still marked them severley, a challenge so to speak

So to clarify from My personal taste, markings are not entirely the be all and end all for Me. A submissive's submission, and servitude under My direction/control is more important to Me, not just pain orientated marks & markings. I do welcome and delight in revealing the sadist within Me, with a sub that is into intense pain senario's, but I would not be interested in a sub that could take 200 strokes of the cane etc, as that is not what I am about.

So it is not how much pain, marking and inflictions a sub can take in My personal opinion, but more the mind connection, subserviance and chemistry/dynamic between us both.

i have to say that i preferr it when my mistress leaves marks that last for at least a little while.  i find it stimulating, almost arousing, and i also love showing them off to my mistress' friends.   i guess i kind of think of it as proving myself, that the strikes, and the pain that goes with them, is real and not faked.
