Level -> Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:01:13 PM)

According to USA Today, Americans have cut back on their driving for the first time in 26 years.

Have you? Will you? At what point?

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:06:33 PM)

I have cut back alot, I only go to work and back.

3.10 a gallon here....cant afford to go anyplace.

gypsygrl -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:08:59 PM)

I love driving, but I've cut way back.  The price of gas is killing me.  I think about every little trip and try to organize things to maximize my gas usage.  I've put myself on a gas budget and have even made a game of it trying to see how far I can make a tank go.  I just don't go out if I don't have to.

My sister's coming for memorial day weekend, and we were going to go to niagra falls 'cause she's never seen it but its a good 3hr drive.  I called her earlier this week and told her it wasn't in my gas budget so we can't go.  But there's a little state park about 30 min away with a water falls.  We're gonna go there and barbeque.

I drive a van because my son's in  a wheelchair.

Try living out here in California!  The lowest in my area is $3.35/gal.  It's a good thing I don't live in San Francisco where it was reported the other day at $4.47/gal.  at a Shell Station!

DesertRat -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:13:43 PM)

As a pinko, liberal, tree hugger, I've always been mindful of my energy consumption. Except for my "Trans Am phase" in the mid-70s. I did, however, trade that pig in on a hot little Cosworth 4-cylinder that got much better mileage and was almost as fast. Bikes are great 'cause it's possible to top 160 mph, go 0-60 in 3 seconds, turn a sub-11 second 1/4 mile, and still get better than 30 mpg.

Fnordstrum -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:20:42 PM)

Heh, I never drove in the first place, I just ride my bike anywhere I need to go, it works well, gets me exercise (not that I really need it), and is a heck of a lot cheaper than having to use gas. (Well, free is always a heck of a lot cheaper than anything, but you know.)

$3.59 today. I've been carpooling on errands with my ex lol & have drastically cut fun driving out of my life. It's kinda hard when the grocery store is 20 miles away!
Now.. where is that pony I kept asking my parents for? This would be a great time for that.

Sinergy -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 3:59:15 PM)

I moved from San Clemente to the harbor 5 minutes from my job because of gas prices.

Re-gawd-damn-diculous.

Looking in to buying a Xebra, but the small mile distance between charges is a bit limiting.

minnetar -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 4:27:32 PM)

i don't have to drive much to do errands as i have a great deal of shopping nearby.  i do have to commute 18 miles each way.  So i am going to start looking for a job closer to where i am living.

Real0ne -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 5:22:00 PM)

i could cxare less one way or the other, i will probly be driving more since i wont need it LOL

Sanity -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 5:29:48 PM)

The spanking new WalMart Supercenter they just built at the bottom of the hill I live on sure comes in handy now, with gas prices so high. I buy everything I need there, and it's so convenient!!! It's just under a two-minute drive, and I'm there.

And the best part about it is? It pisses Liberals off to no end to hear me talk about it...

I dont actually care one way or the other.

I just think it is funny that you go to a job and pay taxes so you can support WalmartFare, and are unable to see the low prices in perspective.

It is not that funny, to be honest.

Enjoy your Walmart shopping experience.

Hey Sinergy -

slaveaurora -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 5:53:37 PM)

I drive a small diesel car, a volkswagon golf.   It gets 45-47 mpg consistantly and diesel at last fill up was around $2.75.

So, I drive where ever I want too, and don't worry about it.  It costs me about $20 to fill up, and I run 600 miles on a tank.

Dude, I pick fights with people professionally.

I find most amateurs to be pretty boring, Sanity, but I give you a bronze star for wanting to go for the gold.

Dont despair, someday you might actually learn how to self-actualize your inner asshole and successfully make somebody angry.

Hey, it could happen.

Sinergy

p.s.  There is something so heartwarming about a person taking their first faltering steps learning a new skill.

TheHeretic -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 6:09:20 PM)

         The new job has cut my commute from 88 miles round trip to 8.  The savings has been so dramatic that I don't even think about the gas to come home for lunch a couple days a week.  That will probably change if the prices really start to spike after Memorial Day.

       No worries, Sanity, you'll get there.  NOT letting him piss you off is the first step.

Exactly.  Why I pointed out that I piss people off professionally.

Assuming he does succeed in not letting me piss him off, I suspect Sanity will fail with step 2.

Step 2 is actually being educated and informed enough about the subject matter to be able to argue the opposing side convincingly enough that they think you are one of them.

Then when one has slithered evilly into the belly of the beast, one is in position to administer the death blow.

Sinergy

p.s.  Of course, half the problem there is that one runs the risk of becoming what one is fighting.

That's funny, because the way you describe your job in other threads you make it sound like you're nothing but a crash-test dummy for young girls' fists, young girls who you verbally molest.

If you read up a few posts, you'll clearly see that Level and I were making a joke.

You sound like you're wound kind of tight to me, Sinergy - but hey, go on pretending. Someone might buy it. But again hey - I was just making a joke, having some fun. Don't take everything so damn seriously. Learn to relax a little, to take a joke, and don't go off so easily about every little thing in life that comes up.

You'll be a better person for it.
