ORIGINAL: Bearlee You're on the money, Sinergy! Four to seven years, though? Back in the day wines were made to last 20 years, anyway. Wines from 100 years ago have been open and enjoyed, too... Depends on the type of wine. If I remember correctly, wines with a higher sugar content age longer. The wines I prefer (red Zin, Cab, Shiraz, Pinot) tend to go south after 10 years or more. Still fabulous, but I started to taste their age. I had an estate bottle of from Beringer Vineyards my father bought for me (90 or so dollars in 1984) when I was in my 20s. I never drank it until a friend had a wine tasting party in 2003. It was the flagship wine of the evening and far outshown all the others, but it should have been uncorked 10 years prior. The party of notes in the mouth was something to write home to Mom about. Sinergy
