edited to add, you know, I asked Daddy if I could have a new shiny screen name so people would quit commenting on my post count... he said "no"... so I am stuck with this screen name that has over 100k miles on it... darn.

Why wear out a perfectly good new shiny screen name with 1893479012873409813274 posts.

You will then be asking for a new name.  And so it goes.

In regards to the initial post, I work a job where I frequently get insanely long lunch breaks, so I wander home, plug in a South Park episode, make lunch, read some posts, or do other things.

I was having a conversation with a friend who plans to transfer back into my union from the clerks union because

"The clerks union tends to force people to stay all day at work.  I have things to do."

Sure, she makes more than I do, but there is more to life than a paycheck.

Sinergy

p.s.  I have mentioned it elsewhere, but my ex-wife once asked me why I always end up getting high paying jobs that dont require me to do much of anything.  I responded "Because Im smarter than you?"

Some of the thread games make it very easy to build up huge numbers of posts.  Not all posts represent the same investment of time.  Some are as short as one word; some are as long as a novel.  (Like Termyn8or tends to write the novel kind.)

OK, so I am new here. Perhaps I need help but I do find some things confusing to an extreme.
For example as I read through things I found the following under one person's reply:

Now that is OVER 20 posts a day!

Some people are easier to be around when they're gagged.

First, thanks to all who answered, and indeed the answers themselves were educational.

One thing that I found interesting was how often several people came back to the same thread. How the thread evolved etc. I guess, for my own part that writing to a forum is less than fullfilling to me. I prefer face to face interaction, and indeed when I am lucky enough to find one of the few that understand who and what I am it is very worth while.

Perhaps, one other reason people post is to attract attention to themselves, to stand out from the crowd as it were? Just a small theory...

I just think that some people like to make new identities as to attack others here, that is what I think, but that is just what it looks like to me

I am curious, actually, if you do not find online forums fulfilling, why you are in one?

I actually believe most of us here prefer face to face interaction, but find it impossible when conversing with people all over the world.  My travel budget just isn't that big!

I thought you were a millionaire. I suppose I should quit sending you emails with my Nigerian sub profile asking for help to deposit my life savings in a bank local to you.

posting is like a drug.

if I had not taken over a year off the boards I would be over 8800. I post where I feel I can best help or on/in the 'silly' stuff for a laugh. Its a nice way to make new 'friends'.

I don't know how long I have been around, srb is my 2nd profile, I had one before this, but I can't for the life of me remember the password or email addy I used to sign up, oops. srb is my main one though.

posting is fun. no harm in it. just wait, once i get back to work full-time i wont post as much, no time.

There was a period of time when I had very little to occupy my time so I posted like mad...and that number still sticks with me. and you would be amazed at how fast the posts add up when in the middle of a nice invigorating flame war. Getting involved in any of the political threads is also a sure way to rachet up the number of posts.

I'm just really hoping they will make more of the nifty icons. I thought it was neat to watch my post count go up and my corruption level rise!

Agreed. It's disappointing to be stuck at four paddles for the rest of time. Might have to launch me a new profile.

BrutalMaster - it's easy depending on the nature of the poster. Take minnetar as an example - she joined April 11 and has 1088 posts so far - that's around 25 posts a day - but if you go back and read them, most are no more then a few words to a sentence or two.

Also, like someone else mentioned, you can go play the word games and literally post one word to play, that counts as one post,  i have a fair amount of them myself
