MstrDouglas -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 10:12:33 AM)

The biggest issue I cna see with it is the fact her sentence stipulated that she NOT be put under house arrest and released with an electronic teather.  Also her time had already been reduced by the judge, to like 23 days instead of 45, and the sherriff has put it back to the original ammount under the teather.  What it boils down to is the sherriff is over riding the courts order, and setting his own.  That is why they ordered her back into court today and are looking at the sherriff being held in contempt of court.  Too many people are screaming about this, especially when it is being reported that the "medical condition" is a rash, and that she complained about the food.
If you cant do the time, dont do the crime.....unless you are a celebrity and have mega bucks.

The electronic tether issue aside...

Did she serve 10% of her 23 days sentence in jail?

If she did, she served the average out here. Why should she serve the whole thing when other not famous, not wealthy people don't have too?

People want to punish her in part because she is rich.  Being ultra rich is not a crime, neither is buying a great legal defense, neither is being a clueless, spoiled, slut. Jesus if it was half of Orange County would be in the slammer.

She shouldn't be breaking the law but neither should the countless other no name CA residents I see getting gooned up in bars and restaurants all the time and stumbling out to the valet to get in their cars and drive home.

People get busted for DUI's all the time out here, multiple offenses and NEVER do a lick of time.

I work in addiction- detox and rehab, they come through detox for a spin dry all the time.

"Bread and Circuses"
  • Failure to pass immigration reform
  • Stem Cell research farmed out of the US
  • Iraq War
  • Federal Deficit
  • Oil Prices
  • Turkey invades Iraq
  • G8 Summit
  • Paris Hilton

AMAZING what we are fed by the media as "important" front page news. Seven pages! With my post being a perfect example of hypocrisy.

Besides this is taking up space in the entertainment section for more important discussion and banter. What is going to happen to Tony on Sunday? Think I'll start a new thread on that.

Meanwhile...from La LA land...

quote:

When Judge Michael Sauer sentenced Hilton last month, he specifically - in a handwritten addition to his printed order - ruled out work-furlough programs, electronic monitoring and other non-jail options. In an extraordinary motion filed yesterday, prosecutors asked Sauer to hold the L.A. County Sheriff's Department in contempt and send Hilton back to jail immediately. "Time is of the essence to ensure compliance with this court's order and to restore public confidence," according to a request penned by prosecutors Dan Jeffries and David Bozanich. Their boss, L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, ripped Sheriff Baca and accused him of practicing "two-tiered" justice. "We cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment," Delgadillo said. You know, when this happens to a "working stiff" most of the times when he/she are picked up on suspension or probation its because they are trying to get to work. She was picked up while on probation not on the way to work, but on the way to another party, while under the influence. Even Mel Gibson wasn't arrogant enough to do that.

You can see the comparison of her cell confinement to her house arrest here:

Edit to add:
I also think we have a prison population problem here too.  I think we coddle these people too much.  Put them in tent cities out in the desert.  Make them pick strawberries and cut lettuce.

It's good enough for Mexicans., but it's not good enough for prisoners?

Then send her to Arizona.  Sheriff Joe already offered to put her in Tent City and Summer is around the corner.  He's also the only Sheriff that has a female chain gang.

Hey, wait a minute! You made it look as though the quote above was mine, whereas in fact... it was not.

Nosathro -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 11:53:07 AM)

For the record..the Judge did not reduce her sentence from 45 days to 23 days, the Sheriff did that; reason good behavior although this was done before her reporting to the jail.  There is a rumor going around that the Hilton Family worked out a deal with the LA Sheriff personally way before this.

The Drunk Driver, who killed the daughter of Candy Lightner (Founder of Mothers against Drunk Driving) has since the incident been rearrested 3 times for drunk driver and two of the convictions involved a death.  Why is he still on the road, he drives without a license, it been revoked permantly and California Prison System has been critized as a revolving door, parole dates and release are set by the Parole Board as they arrive.

mistoferin -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 12:13:46 PM)

well now she has to do the whole 45 days! Her reaction....screaming and crying "It's not right!!!!" "Mom!"

lol....what made her so late to court today? Well they had to call in her make-up artist of course.

windchymes -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 12:30:26 PM)

I love that judge, lol.

OF COURSE the Hilton family paid the sheriff off.  Doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.

What I have figured out......anxiety disorder....rash.....medical condition.....she developed the mac-daddy of herpes outbreaks from the stress.

IMO... it would be difficult for any reasonable person to argue your point.

I think what we're seeing here is people wanting "justice" in this particular case, primarily because they don't like her.

caitlyn -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 12:45:33 PM)

Cops ... the biggest abusers of the drunk driving laws, on Earth.
Judges ... not good enough to be rich defense lawyers ... power tripping, scheming and back stabbing enough to get ahead in the DA's office.

I don't care about Paris Hilton one way or the other. I don't know her, so don't really know what to think of her. She is just another person caught in the American justice system, which other than having no system, or justice ... is just great. [;)]

The idea that the justice system, is qualified to judge anyone, is laughable.

If I was the Hilton family, I would have had Paris quietly do her time, and then I would have spend my very last dime fucking destroying every one of these people.

Absolutely, where is the outrage over the scores of other offenders released from the L.A. County jail that have not served their full sentence, or for the scores who NEVER serve a day?

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 12:47:41 PM)

And you would fix it how?

Those armed felons, sexual predators and multiple drunk drivers do not serve the adgenda of "Class Envy" being fed to the American Public these days.

That said...

Paris Hilton needed to see at least a "weekend" in county jail, just the same as about 95% of the people who have faced similar violations but if her name was Paris Jones nobody would have batted an eyelash at her release.

Well, She is back in Jail....What a crazy ass world![:D]

I'm hoping to close out this thread and see these same folks posting in outrage over Mary Winkler only having to serve out 60 days in a psych faciliy no less for shooting her sleeping husband in the back. Must be a real cabal there too.[:D]

Preacher's wifes family pays off Judge..I can see the headlines now.

...and I agree she should of served the same number of days anybody else would have for driving on a suspended license in L.A. County..

Well... Paris Hilton was spied holding a 'gasp' Bible in her hands in the days leading up to her incarceration.

The other strange thing I am seeing is that people who went nuts over Martha Stewart (another victim of class envy) being sent to jail are joyous over Paris Hilton going.

I take no pleasure in it, but I'm glad. I would dearly like her to learn something from it, and for those who misguidedly look up to her to learn something too.

I started a poll about whether prison would be the making or breaking of her. I really hope it will be the making of her and that she emerges as a grown up. There is so much more she could do in the world with the wealth at her disposal, than teach young girls a bad attitude.

CruelGorean -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 1:24:36 PM)

Well it just goes to prove, rich people get off scott free and poor people spend their time in jail. I had a friend get busted for the same thing, and he had quite a serious physical handicap, and he didnt get out of jail for health reasons. What it all boils down too is the rich have a get out of jail free card.

Masternslave07 -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 1:27:35 PM)

Waah! Poor Paris. She will turn this into her being a victim and will learn nothing from it. Luckily for her she has enough money to learn nothing and go on with her life.

LadyEllen -> RE: Paris Hilton Released After Just 3 Days in Jail (6/8/2007 1:33:19 PM)

Incidentally, George Michael got a two year driving ban in London today, after being caught driving under the influence of drugs - cocaine I think it was. I thought he might be more into blow.
