I don't ask for a petition or get someone to fill in a questionnaire as their opening gambit, but it's tempting! It might weed out the thoughtless messages from people who are patently unsuitable. But then again, probably it wouldn't, as that type doesn't seem to be able to read anyway. Sigh. I guess my reservation round petitions annd questionnaires is that not everyone is good with words. I've played with some wonderful subs who have few or no computer skills, and who sound illiterate and ignorant in print, but turn out to be intelligent and thoughtful. I've also dealt with people who sound wonderfully witty and articulate on line, and are as exciting as a limp lettuce when I meet them. So I'll go on doing what I'm doing, trying to be as flexible as possible, and wearing out my finger on the Delete/Block buttons.

All I have to say on the subject is...

I dont think the idea of submitting applications for service to be a very effectve way of handling things in the context of strangers who meet on the Internet.

In communities where people have ample time to get to know each other and want to submit an application or petition to someone they like is a different story.

But I personally find the dominants who expect submissives or slaves off the Internet to send them this huge long application with tons of personal information in the first 5 minutes of an Internet chat to be idiots.

Personally, i do not have many Doms/Masters asking me to write letters as to why i should be 'considered' to be theirs.  However, if i did i can tell you without a doubt, i would laugh my butt off.  Depending on my mood, i would either send back a very smartass e-mail or ignore it all together.

i have decided (in the not too distant past) that if they do not want to get to know me, as a person, they sure as hell are not going to get to know me as a slave/submissive.

I did not take the time to read all the posts. It's very much a person's particular brand of controlling and testing who makes the cut to the "I'm interested" zone.

Many people have a sort of "gauntlet" a prospect for relationship gets run through. Various tests for dealbreakers and desirable qualities. For instance, back when I was looking for a relationship, I would not even consider a man who would not IM for a bit, and who did not show up as intelligent, witty, and open on IM. My gauntlet worked for me to find the kind of man who could engage me mentally and emotionally. The physical factor was a no-brainer upon first meeting. But I did nto want to even take the time to meet if my frontline qualifying factors were not met.

I have to say I have great faith in my methods as they've produced good LTRs. The one I'min now is second to none.

You can tell a lot about if a person is a good prospect for you or not, by how you might react to their screening method. Too much is too much. Not enough is foolhardy or desperate.

I've only one comment on the application process.  If a dominant asks for applications, he or she should at least reply to each one that was well-written and shows the sub took an hour out of his or her day to write, in my humble opinion.  Maybe this is just me, but I see it as very selfish to ask a hundred people to take the time to write something like that (to someone they don't even know), then only reply to one or two.  As always, just my $0.02...

Great Topic MissyRain,

Personally I've never used an "application" and don't see myself ever using one ever.  Do people use applications like this in the Real Time or is more of a Cyberspace Trend?

I believe in exchanging a couple of emails, moving into chat, seeing how things go from there.

Applications for what?  What is this?  McDomnalds? PieceofSlut (Pizza hut)?  I just don't get it.

Places a call to get screen and key board replacements.

I have seriously got to stop reading your post... you're getting expensive with the cleaning supplies...and this time it just might require replacements of screen and or keyboard... LOL

As to the OP... nope.. no application on file. Not my thing. I think those that require them, ask for them. Don't want to really take the time to get to know someone... they want it all up  front so they know if it's worth their time.  So much for the remote chance  of even having just a "Friend".

aight yet another thing I've been thinking about..for quite some time that I couldn't find when searching for it, perhaps LA's magical fingers can find some enlightening links

but anyhow let me get to the point.
There are so many dominants on here, not all but many, who want submissives/slaves to write an introduction letter with their first message, telling the dominant why they should consider them as their sub and what they have to offer and why they stick out from all the others etc.etc.etc.

EVERYBODY can make up that kind of a letter and sound like you know..a dream coming true or something like that but I mean..what do you say, I somehow can't imagine that these letter contain a lot of various..responses, I mean sure everybody has their own way of putting things but then I mean...these questions ..why should i be considered -what do i have to offer -why do i stick out
I don't really get their point, everybody can write a splendid report about themselves just to get the attention.
Why does it have to be in the form of a job application? It's not like they're as stable as a job application I mean you can false a CV but usually they're checked out as well as possible.
Slave..CV's..you simply can't do the same with them except by talking to the person directly.
I think it would give much better picture to just start chatting n just you know..small talk or whateva

I guess my real question..what do people gain from these kind of "applications"?

I agree. I think that a domme who requires a sub,, to specify everything that he can do for her, even though he knows virtually nothing about her, is an exercise in futility. I don't know what I would do to please a domme if I don't know what she needs, wants, or likes in the first place. Sure, there are many common interests among dominant women, but there's no guarantee that a particular woman has those same interests. And a sub can hardly expect to set himself apart from the crowd by mentioning such common things in an introduction.

It's also interesting to me how dommes who require such letters of introduction often don't list their own interests in their profiles. All they're doing is making it harder to find a good match.

TammyJo,
Your explaination and use of an application is the only one that makes really sense to me. Where you go through the initial process of getting to know them. Interview first, then hit them up with an application. Hell, call it a survey or simply a list of things your want to know. I tend to see many people demanding applications sooner in the process compared to you. Useful to double check if information meshes.

I'm rather at odds with some things online, the whole process online Frankly seems rather backwards compared to meeting and getting to know somebody in the real time.

I have only found one successful Ds relationship in almost two decades via the online process.

I much prefer to get to know folks through munches and local groups.

Of course I have my own definition of what is "successful" so I'm not claiming online won't work for others.

I get those now and then.  My standard response is to ask them what it is they feel they can teach me?  This month I got an email from some not so local master who told me he is willing to train me, guide me, mold me, into what I should be.  I wrote back about my personal accomplishments, job, talent, ect, and how hard it is to relocate.  Then asked him what he felt he could teach me.
I haven't heard back.
Hmm.

Yeah, this was also what I was getting at. I want to be meeting the complete person, learning about all the labels they use for themselves. I don't think you can really get that from an application. Particularly since people don't write the way they speak. Writing is inherently problematic as someone can take all the time in the world to figure out just how they want to respond to look in the best light. An application is also very stilted in that the questions to be answered are so linear.

Speaking face to face is MUCH better. Talking is a much more active, and thus I think, more honest form of communication. There is the opportunity for discussion to go off onto tangents. If they say something that I find curious, I can lead the talk into that area to learn more about what they mean.

But, I also enjoy meeting someone. It is exciting, an adventure learning about each other. Even if what you find is that you are not right for each other, I'm still having a good time learning our differences. I simply have fun with person to person introductions.

Other Dominants may not enjoy the discovery process that much. For them I can see that an application might be an easier tool to determine, with little effort on their part, whether a potential sub is for them.

As always, find whatever works best for you and go with it.

Namaste, Sir Dominic

European House style

What does this mean?  What does "european house style" entail and how is it different from any other styles?  Thanks!

....my 2 cents worth from having lived and spent much time in Germany/Europe, that the scene there tends to have more of a polite, considered, but also more severe formality to it than the US with more emphasis on strict protocols, dress, etc. with also at least in Germany more of a focus in the activity area on genuine torture so.....just my experience and sense from having spent  time in both areas but certainly nothing scientific or truly valid so........

I find more foreign slaves/subs are more protocol orientate seek applications, even some in the states write wanting a application to serve and of course we type them out a short protocol for serving a very dom couple..I see nothing wrong with applications  ,you are up front in what you seek and won't settle for less.....bounty
