Status: offline 		Hmmm, really good question.  I think I'm the same in here in a lot of ways and very different in other ways.  I may be thinking the same things in r/l that I'm typing here, but I don't say them.  One, because I'm actually very soft-spoken vocally and I don't seem to get through in conversations, lol.  And two, because most of the people in my circle of co-workers and friends are rather straight-laced and intolerant of a lot of things that are unfamiliar to them.  In r/l, I'm extremely private about my kink-life, unlike online.  Because of my looks and soft voice, people tend to think of me as a goody-two-shoes and are shocked the first time I tell a dirty joke.

I know I come across as jaded and down-to-earth in here, and I'm exactly that way in real life.  But, I'm also an extremely compassionate, altruistic, empathic even, defender of the underdog, random acts of kindness kind of person in r/l. 

And that's not my photo in the avatar, but there's a strong resemblence! :)

Before i came to CM my online life was mainly in chat. i had friends who i had known for many years, many whom i met rt.  Live chat is very different than a message board. For one, on a message board you get to contemplate much more what you want to say and you can pick and choose what you want to respond to. In chat you have to form your thoughts more quickly and learn, in essence, to get along with the other personalities you might not like very much for the common good and stability of the group.  Others who have met me have told me i present myself online as i am real time. 

i know when i read people here on CM i get a sense of their general personality and pov's. But i can sometimes see how a thread goes completely haywire because someone has been misinterpreted /misunderstood, espeically looking from the outside, not involved in the emotions of the thread, it's so much clearer to see how things get so off track.  i know i have come across completely differently than i intended and it's difficult to turn that around.  Knowing this, having experienced this myself, i don't generally hold grudges or harbor bad feelings towards others. 

i can be confrontational and i can be laid back depending on my mood. i generally am a private person till i get to know you well and build trust.  i would rather, if asked advice give it gently rather than harshly because i think you can get the same result either way - people tend to shut down when they feel they are attacked.  i tend to be blunt at times which can come across the wrong way.  i never intentionally misrepresent myself but depending on mood, life circumstances at that moment i can look back over something i posted and ask myself - where did that come from lol.

mlady is the persona that i carry with me to the bdsm sites. its frustrating me that on this site, there is no one NAMED mlady persay, but i can't use this nick name!!!

she very much is me.. the creative, spontaneous part of me that isn't burdened with two kids, and doens't have to worry about the mundane sh*t of everyday life.

when i am playing in RL i use this nick name as well, and punish subbie's if they disobey and slip, and call me "mistress" instead.

Status: offline 		Everyone has a different mask for a different situation, it is how people are, even if we are the same at our core. We are different at home than we are at work so being different when online is no big deal. When you date someone you learn about these different faces and either like them or reject them, its part of choosing. The problem for online dating is that it is so one demensional so while we are probably eeing part of the real personality behind sopmeone's posts, we are probably missing far far more.

Status: offline 		IMO there are slight differences, but people who have met me tell me that there's no difference between the online me and the real life me, and that they match almost word for word.

Me and my life is very much influenced by me being who I am, being who I am openly, and choosing not to hide myself behind a veneer, a facade or an image. However while I am open about myself, who I am and my interests I am also a somewhat shy, private and discreet person.

The computer I have in front of me, the software contained in it inclduing the Internet is very much part of my life, but is predominantly a tool - for work, for my creativity, writing, for getting contacts, meeting people, for finding information, getting research, and downloading things. It is also a way of keeping in touch with people in my life who are too far away to meet - my family, friends, and that wonderful Domme I have a wonderful relationship from Collarme who is becoming the centre of my world.

Ask me to name someone's most attractive feature and I will reply without a moment's hesitation that it's their mind. Coming to read the postings on the boards is interesting, to find out what people think, how they feel, what matters to them, and so on. I guess it's a kind of voyeurism on my part.

I also write and post myself, often as brain candy (to gather thoughts and get my brain going to be able to write something else, such as a play), also because I feel - through having a profile - part of this massive, expansive, intellectually diverse and in the main accepting international CM community. I don't feel myself to be part of the in-crowd, I'm not here for popularity or to be universally liked, because I know it isn't possible. But I do so in the hope that what I write brings something, be it amusement, a moment of reflection or perhaps reassurance to someone, be it one person, or a small select handful of people. I may not always get it right, sometimes I don't, I'm liable to error, mistakes, and sometimes my fingers rattle off something even when the connection to my brain is down.

This is how I wrote my profile. It's just another piece of me.

Status: offline 		interesting topic...because it is really an oxymoron, online personality.

there is no way I can be as witty, outgoing and dynamic online as in person. emails, IM's, forum posts, can all be misinterpreted and people generally will project who they want to be online, vs. how they really are.

I don't post all that often because I feel that I come off very serious in my replies (which could be that I tend to only reply to serious topics that I feel I can add something of note to. I don't usually participate in the silly funny threads because I am not part of the group that does.)

that is why no matter what is said, read or done online, it is meaningless to me unless I meet the person in real life and then true discovery of someone's personality begins.

In person, in a casual atmosphere, I can be VERY shy, painfully so. At work, I am 'bubbly' and outgoing, its part of the job and I can take control of a situation when neccessary and handle a crisis. With my son, I am ALL mommy, funny, cuddly, caring, authorative at times. With MJ, I am submisive, sometimes playfull, affectionate. Online, I am VERY outgoing, aggressive at times, very flirtatious; I am kinda  180 at times from online to in person. It depends on who I am around.

The armchair sociologist in me (not to mention the arm chair psychiatrist) could go on quite a bit about it. But it’s getting late. Short version. I have always been the outsider and the observer. I define myself as contrary. I’m comfortable with it, it fits me well. And I do feel that I can be more myself – for good or ill – on line than in "real" life. I love small social settings, a few good friends and some wine, but in large crowds (which I try to avoid in the first place), you’ll find me hanging around the edges – both literally and figuratively. I’ll be the one with a puzzled look on his face as if he is trying to figure out if he really is the only sane person on the planet.

Books on socialist principles make great "bathroom meeting". After your done "digesting" them, the pages can serve their ultimate purpose - clean up!

Edited to add: In the spirit of the thread - I would have made the same comment to interject humor in person. The difference being  in person, with voice inflection and providing physical versions of the 'smiley' visuals I used, it would be funnier...maybe.
