Folks,

How about your own stories of airline flight since 9/11?
The easy and the difficult, the mundane and the profane,

the good, the bad and the "we crashed and ate the co-pilot
with a nice chianti".

Tell us about it!

I arrive at the regional airport, am greeted by the charter pilot and crew, they stow my luggage, and we take off.

Usually, if I'm going to need a meal, I bring along a box-lunch.

Is it a personalized lunch box?  Monogrammed perhaps?

Where do you fly back and forth from and about how much does it cost?
You can answer by email on the other side if you want.

Aileen.

Just as an arbitrary data point. To bring RudyG in for a speech, his charter air-travel segment will run about 40K round trip.

What I find funniest, is that I never, ever get stopped at the real security (ie not the pretend private company security), even in eastern European airports where the staff are ex KGB.

Damn, I'm good.

Just watch some bastard pull me out of the line next time.

i haven't flown since 9/11, not because of what happened, but because of the cost of flying.

You need Ryan Air. Fly anywhere for 20p (40 cents).

It sucks! Just this month I was coming from Reno into Washington DC and had a 19 month old kid screaming the whole time while his mother was trying to get him to drink out of his sipper cup. The damn kid was waving it all around shaking old baby drool all over the place.

I complained about the brat to security and they promised to do something, but you know how dumb those TSA people are. They noted my complaint and said they'd be on the look out for it in the future. I told them that random drool was a safety/health hazard!

I expected to have them on my flight going back to Reno on the 11th but somehow I was lucky and ended up with two empty seats next to me.

I have flown a lot since 9/11 and was routinely being pulled out for the pat down during the security clearance.  Then I called a Dom I know at Homeland Security and haven't been subject to the additional screening since! lol

My first time flying in a plane, ever, was Oct 2001. I took a commuter plane to Sea-Tac, waited for hours, snickered/snorted when they pulled the 80+ year old grandma out of line, flew to Dulles (the airplane food was pretty decent). Return trip went just as smooth. Though I was half-wishing for some jack-hole with a f'ng boxcutter. *mutters*

the last time I flew, I had the bag full of all the toys...including the cuffs, crop, paddles, etc., which were all in my checked luggage.  for the first time in my life, my bags were inspected by the TSA and they left the little obligatory love note behind.  it happened on both outbound and return.

I've flown quite a bit in my life.  curious, isn't it, how I never had my bags inspected before this...

Weirdly I have more security checks when going to New Zealand than I do when going to the USA and always set off the alarms because of all of my jewelry!

I flew less than one year after 9/11, I was randomly pulled out of the boarding line (yes, we were waiting to board the plane), on a business flight where all passengers carry on all of their luggage.  I had the pat down, wand, and had to take my shoes off for inspection.  They spread the contents of my luggage out on a table.  I was the last person to board the plane, they told me that the plane had to wait for me.  I've flown a few times since, never had that experience again.

I've only flown once since 9/11 and flew out of a smaller local Pennsy airport as opposed to Newark or any of the larger NY airports.  It took all of about five minutes to get through security and I was pulled outof line and had to do the whole shoes off, wand and pat down thing.  It wasn't an inconvenience at all and I barely gave it a second thought except for thinking that everyone that I talked to during the check was pleasant.  I'll take a smaller airport over a larger one anyday.
