This may be slightly off the subject, but I've always thought of this concept as the perfect relationship for me.  My confusion stems from how women view it.  Do you really want a wife, or a man that supports you and still does all the wifely duties?  Case in point was a recent post here:  .   "Yes I intend to tell you what to do, have you work (full or part time), than come home to serve me like an adoring 50's housewife... ".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did many 1950's housewives work outside the home?  If you want to be the head of the household then you have to assume the resposibilities that entails.

Well perhaps if you had read some of my other posts on this subject you would know that I don't in any way expect to be taken care of financially. I live in So Cal and it just isn't possible to live successfully on one income unless you're a millionaire. Sad but true. Would it be nice? Of course. Would I go insane being home all day with nothing but charity work to do? Absolutely. Been there, done that, have a million little fundraiser trinkets. If I could afford to have a male wife that stayed home full time I would do so. Although I think he would need the social interaction as well to retain some sort of self esteem and balance. Personally I've always been rather self dependant and have worked my entire adult life. So while I would love to be pampered to that extent of being able to choose to work or not, frankly it just isn't a reality in today's world.

As for him being responsible for all the household chores...the responsibility is in seeing that they are handled. If that means bringing in domestic help so be it. I don't care how it gets done. I simply want it handled.

To rulemylife:  I've never said that I wanted the 50's housewife version of a male wife.  However, even today most wives are expected to do whatever their full or part time job is, then come home and make sure that the kids are relatively clean, the housework is under some sort of control, and dinner is on the table on time ... why can't we have a male wife do the same?

Absolutely right. Women have done it all for years.

Ginger did everything Fred did...only backwards and in heels.
