Like GeekyGirl I was too busy with the Horse crowd to fit in well with the school crowd.
Too smart for the freaky people, too weird for the smart ones who didnt want to associate
with the cowboy boots and flanel shirts from back in my day.  Guess I've always danced to
my own drummer.

I was friendly with most of the different cliques in high school.  I graduated in the top twenty so I knew all of the brains fairly well, but didn't really hang out with them.  I had a core group of about ten who I spent most of my years with.  They were good people.  The only group I didn't really associate with were the jocks and cheerleaders.  Oh and I wasn't in the band, but I did twirl a rifle as part of the marching band performances.

edited to add...every now and then I zip onto classmates.com to see who's shown up.

Nerds Rule!!
I was chubby and I got picked on all through elementary school...  I also played the clarinet!  (I do see a definite trend starting here). Hung with the druggies in Junior High and was a loner through High School
I was in honors classes all through school and like many here, fairly intelligent.  So when I skipped school about 50% of the time in junior high, I still managed to pass with good grades.. Good grades in H.S. and super high SAT's..
I did get paddled once in 7th or 8th grade.. Hated it.
Now this has me thinking about starting a thread about grades, class standings and test scores....

**edited to say:
In 11th and 12th grades I was also the teacher's pet... Office aide, teachers aide.. Got to come and go as I pleased as well..
Also slept with said teacher after graduation.. Oops...

I had a couple of good friends I spent my time with but I was accepted in any of the "groups" and I had friends from all the different cliques in school. I was never much of a joiner or a follower. I did what I wanted to do and people could either accept me as such or not, I really didn't care much either way.

I was a jock, one of the smart kids, a prankster and teachers pet. You could find me in heels and a suit or out dirt biking with the guys. I was the rich spoiled kid but I also worked full time and perferred to do things myself and provide for myself. I fit in everywhere and no where all at the same time.

I didn't realize I was popular in highschool until the year after I graduated lol    I guess it never really seemed important if i was or wasn't.

I sort of drifted throughout all the groups. Some might say I was popular. I was Cheerleader Co Captain, dated the Quarterback, Homecoming and Prom Court/Queen, Science/Math Geek, BrainBowl, Student Counsel, The Newspaper staff, Thespians and NHS. I also smoked so I hung out with the party crowd/stoners as well. I grew up in a pretty small midwestern town so there wasn't much to do on weekends but keggers out in the cornfields, cruise Eldorado and make boys suffer.

Hey! Have you been holding out on us?  Where are the funny stories from cheerleading??? (taps foot on floor patiently waiting...)

I was a bit all over the place in high school as well, edited the paper, played tennis, did sca and was highly involved in jcl (jr classical league)..so I got along with pretty much everyone, though I didn't really belong to a group. What I see when I look back though, was how my overwhelming need to please affected who I was in high school..it's always been there, and I think that probably had more to do with the "overachieving" than anything else. So rather than high school shaping who I am now, I would say who I was shaped my experience...

Shit...the only thing I miss about high school IS band. I was in the Pit, which is  the side-line part of the Drum Line. We were GOOD and won awards everywhere we went. We DOMINATED! :-)

i was what you might call a "bully's bully"

i used to beat up on bullies that tried to take lunch money from those who could not defend themselves. One time, i was called into the principal's office and was asked to stop beating up on the bullies. i told him i would, if they would stop picking on defenseless kids. This happened after one bully i stopped tried to hit me and hit the brick wall instead...broke several bones in his hand.

<Edited to add>

i used to wear a blue leather jacket, white t-shirt, blue jeans and a red bandana tied around my right thigh...oh, and sun glasses.

High School was 4 years that kept dragging on and on and on. I was NOT in a clique, I was outside of everyone, I got along better with the teachers than with my peers, I was working on my thesis at 15 and finished at 16 {so I spent a LOT of time in the library reading and researching or just stayign away from others}, as much as I could, I took the test for MENSA at 16, and passed, that got the teachers off my back for the rest of high school, the ONLY time the 'popular' people wanted to be around me was when I had a camera or video camera on me, I put the jocks in their place when I beat them doing sit ups {rofl}. My 10th reunion is next year, lol. I'm going, an I have run into some of the guys from high school who would NOT give me the time of day, and now, {giggles} their jaws drop an I laugh and tell THEM "not gonna happen." I LOVE karma.

Who Me? Funny stories? You mean like the time I "forgot" to wear the little cheer panties under My skirt? Nope, wouldn't have any of those.

I was one of those people who hung out with which ever group was handy.  As an artist I fit in with the quiet introspective type.  My base set of friends were the ones most likely to become doctors, lawyers, ect.  My artsy friends were anywhere from stoners, to archetech type.  I also could hang out with the rough crowd.  I didn't consider myself popular at all.  But if anyone was likely to start a trend it was me.  I wore shirts with deliberate tears, pretty soon it was common.  I laced leather up the side of my jeans, before I knew it more than a few people did it too.  I rarely knew people by their names unless I hung around them longer than a month.  But people knew me.  After all these years, people still know OF me.  Sometimes I find that freaky.
Then I remember it's just a weird quirk that seems common in my family.
Not popular, but known.
Kyst

Wow, maybe we should start a thread about the clarinet being the dominants instrument of choice.  I was also first chair carinet when I was in school...

Yeah, it's cause the flutey girls were too foo foo.

Um, I fear I must defend my status as a first chair flutist..and Domme...
There has never been anything foo foo about me..lol

To the O.P.  I wasn't in the stuck up club if thats what you mean by popular.  I didn't have the money or the clothes to belong there.  My friends tell me I was one of the coolest people they knew.

Too smart to hang out with the freaky kids, too freaky to hang out with...Well, everyone else.

I had no time to deal with anybody in high school, for the most part. I was alone for the most part until my senior year, and I was happy to be alone.

The only person in high school I ever connected with was my best friend Ed, who is sitll my best friend to this day. We invented our own damn social class in school.

I was in the 'freak' group. Once upon a time, long long ago that meant that I was a stoner  pass.

Hey I was in that group too, and I thought I was soooo damn cool.

I hated school, we used to skip school almost every Friday and hang out and do bad things.
In high school we often drank beer and smoked pot in the bathrooms.

Hell, don't get me started.....memories.

I actually started with the "cool" good kids but within a year I was bored of them. I moved into the art and SCA geek group, along with hanging with the "cool" bad kids.

I had a lot of fun in high school.
