darchChylde -> Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 5:53:08 PM)

One of my favorite wrestlers Chris Benoit who was scheduled for WWE's Vengeance pay=per-view last sunday to meet CM Punk for the ECW Chamionship, was reported found dead of carbonmonoxide poisoning in his home with his wife and son in their home in georgia

i find it interesting that this monday's RAW was originally scheduled as a 3 hour memorial for WWE Chairman Vince McMahon who has died according to a WWE storyline, is now scheduled as a 3 hour tribute to Benoit... i can only hope that, due to this tragedy, Vince will break kayfabe and end his "death" storyline to pay proper respect to a great athlete and entertainer who has truly passed on...

Chris Benoit has long been considered one of the most respected members of the business.

Chris Benoit, family found dead
Written: June 25, 2007

STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayetteville County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home.  Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability.  He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans.  This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

Well he started the show tonight saying that they were originally going to explore his "death" but since Chris Benoit was found, thought it inappropriate and changed it to a tribute.  So Vince is obviously alive.  I don't think they can continue with that particualr story line anyway

Wow, I hate that. Benoit was a phenomenal athelete, I was a fan from back when he joined the Four Horsemen.

Wrestling has had a large amount of untimely deaths: Curt Henig, Bam Bam Bigelow, Owen Hart, the Von Erichs, Hawk, Eddie Guerro....

Hmm, evidently "Woman" was his wife, didn't know that.

boundkitty -> RE: Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 7:00:48 PM)

According to the most recent Yahoo news story, they are investigating the deaths as homicides. Whatever anyone thinks about wrestling as a whole, there is nobody who can say that Chris was anything other than a true professional and a good man. He will be greatly missed. At least Eddie was there to meet him. I hope they are putting on one hell of a show in Heaven.

I met Chris a few weeks ago when he flew into Pittsburgh, actually got to meet a number of wrestlers and he seemed like a real nice guy, please and thank you and the whole bit.  Wish more of our non-famous patrons would've taken a page or two out of his book.

TheHeretic -> RE: Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 7:41:34 PM)

Well that genuinely sucks.  He was fun to watch.

CrimsonMoan -> RE: Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 8:03:42 PM)

I ran across this on yahoo and was like wtf. I was also like that on friday when i saw the brief tribute to the sensational sherri who died not to long ago as well. Chris Benoit was one of the nicest guys aroudn and will trully bbe missed by all who knew him professionally and personally and by everyone watched him and had a chance to meet him. He was a great man, a great wrestler and a wonderful dad. Wrestling has lost another good star

"There were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation or strangulation. Pope told ABC News that his department is looking at this situation as a "possible double murder, suicide."

"Pope said "the instruments of death were located on scene," but he would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

I was just listening to the 11P news and they are reporting that Benoit killed his wife and kids on Friday and himself on Sat.
I couldn't find a specific article when I googled it, but this one says they are not looking for suspects outside of the crime scene... looks like he may not have been as nice as he seemed. Sad.

I don't watch wrestling, so I don't know anything about Chris Benoit.  When I read about it being investigated as a homicide, my first thought was murder-suicide.  I know that will probably piss off some wrestling fans here, but that was just my gut reaction.  Homicides like that don't tend to be perpetrated by outsiders.

darchChylde -> RE: Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 8:16:59 PM)

after Eddie Guerrero and now  Chris Benoit; i can't help but think of the third part of that triumvirate of best friends, in front of and behind the cameras, Rey Mysterio Jr.

My most sincere wishes of good-will and love to the remaining members of the Benoit family and friends, most especially Rey Mysterio Jr.

For those who just don't "get" pro wrestling, read the first 2/3 or so of Mick Foley's book, Have a Nice Day (awful title, very 'inside baseball' towards the end).  He protects the business, but there is a lot there.

Some kind of steroid induced rage kinda leaps to mind. IF it turns out he is responsible (remembering Phil Hartman), I'll be very curious about the toxicology report.  There is testing, but according to Foley, some of these guys will actually catheterize themselves with a clean sample.

darchChylde -> RE: Professional Wrestler Chris Benoit Dead (6/25/2007 9:01:31 PM)

considered, at least until today, one of the two most respected men in the business; alongside Mark Calloway, The Undertaker

for those who don't understand what that means, you have to look at Benoit who was until only 2000, never a true main-eventer this is a huge honor to be linked with Undertaker, the backstage Judge of the Wrestler's Court (an unofficial way to teach other wrestlers respect... ie: if someone hurts Andre the Giant, who wouldn't hurt anyone and was in alot of pain in the latter years of his career, other wrestlers would let a few real hits go on you); the Undertaker is also known as the conscience of the WWE

to be linked with the Undertaker on the point of respect is an incredible honor for anybody in that profession... for Chris Benoit, it was only his due, which he worked so very hard for... (most wtestlers are on the road 300+ days out of the year)

Okay, so what's up with this?  It started as a publicity stunt that turned out to be true?
