I've just found out that the appeal I lodged against my Polish employer, a city council for wrongful dismissal from my post as playwright and stage director in a city cultural centre on the grounds of sex discrimination - in accordance with European Union law and directives has been thrown out. I was sacked on the 10th November 2005 'with immediate effect' for being a transsexual.

The judge upheld the decision of the city council to sack me 'for failing to promote healthy and positive values in society or the community' and has ruled that the city council and others are entitled to remove any record or reference to my 11 years of artistic work in Poland in order to 'protect' society norms and the Polish and Catholic traditional values. The judge said that there was nothing in Polish law or the Polish Constitution against discriminating against someone for being a transsexual as it is a matter of 'sexual orientation'.

I'd like to thank the journalists who worked so hard to discredit me after discovering that I chose to practise the alternative lifestyle in private. None of the 15 plays I staged or worked promoted homosexuality, transsexualism or the alternative lifestyle and my gender issues are my own private concern.

I'm grateful to my lawyer, Andrzej Znaniecki in Warsaw for his efforts and hard work and for the people who have taken it upon themselves to pay the outstanding court costs.

Ah well. Meanwhile back to the drawing board....

It just goes to prove the Polish proverb "sometimes in life you are the pigeon, and sometimes you are the statue."

...surely this is subject to appeal. As a member of the EU Poland had to sign up to the European Charter of Human Rights which, as i understand, specifically disallows discrimination of grounds of sexual orientation. Good luck, and don't let the bastards grind you down.......

Well, that just bites it bigtime.  i think Philosophy is on to something though...i'm not sure how emotionally drained you are from this experience, but maybe an appeal could be won?

Thank goodness we have good Christian values protecting society from deviants.

Fucking choir boys in the apse of course, being representative of how the world should be run.

I call for the immediate levelling of the Vatican and the hunting down, internment and extermination of all priests. Then I'll get started on the rest of them. That must be equally legal, surely?

Poland is starting to sound very creepy.  Why would you want to work there even if you could win an appeal?  From everything I've read lately, most Poles seem to yearn for the good old Nazi years when fags and Jews were rounded up and gassed.

A simple guaranteed separation of Church and State should be sufficient, I think?

Please forgive me my whinge. I just had to react. At the time it seemed a good idea and I was advised to speak out publicly and take a stand in favour of the Polish LGBT community. I remember attending the 2005 Warsaw Equality Parade in my true gender and with hindsight I don't regret this. To provoke changes sometimes you have to stand out from the crowd. But let's just say that I underestimated the consequences, Polish society isn't ready for such changes and I think it's fair to say I'm going to be one of many people who over time will struggle and fight to bring the changes necessary to society.

But I must add that it doesn't take away any of my memories or experiences of a wonderful time in my life nor does it negate any of the contacts I made or friendships I formed and left behind. It was fun while it lasted.

Sorry FB but I dont think so. I am so sick and tired of having the proclamations of this foreign cult imposed on all we do, of being looked at like some monster for not conforming and of the rank hypocrisy and downright evil it perpetrates and has perpetrated on us for centuries - every which way one looks, every problem we have in our societies goes back to the same origin. It needs wiping out with the same intolerance it has shown to people down the ages who didnt kiss their arses.

That is an opinion which merits consideration...

Personally, i don't think you should have to be forgiven for anything...for the way you were treated, you have every right to "whine" (actually, i wouldn't even call it a whine...i'd call it venting!)

It's good to see that you can take away a host of positives from the experience.  Good on you!

And people criticise the U.S.
Oh well, the world hates the U.S. so we're told.
If that is so, why are we still sending out foreign aid checks?
That shit needs to stop!

Don't get me started! Let's just say, i agree, 100% with this viewpoint.  It may earn me "enemies" but enough is just plain ENOUGH.

Well all I can say is I haven't read the details but if the end result is one less artist that the taxpayer has to finance then I am a happy man.
I suggest you get a job as a bricklayer and I will give you my full support lol

Get educated, get a better job, sponge of the taxpayer and produce eff all.
Just realised that all this may have occured in Poland, for an artist you are delightfully opaque.(sp?)

Just wondering...what hypocrisy and evil have been perpetrated for centuries in the name of separation of Church and State?  I find it a little hard to believe that EVERY problem we have in society goes back to the separation of Church and State.  So perhaps you might elaborate.

The polish government is investigating if Tinky-Winky is gay and if this poses a threat to the children there.  Yes, the Teletubbie.

The whole country is kind of a joke.

Dear stella,

I am very sorry to hear about the court decision.  If you have no other legal recourse you might consider
telling your story to other GLBTQ groups around Europe and the US to raise awareness of this injustice.

Message me on the other side if you want to chat.

Warm regards,

Vendaval

Seeks, please note that she is educated and trained and working in her chosen field.
She is not sponging off of anyone or being a lazy burden on the taxpayer, and does volunteer work to improve society.
