I thought I'd start this thread for those pesky odd questions that everyone must have and that maybe someone else in here might know the answer to but that you can't really find answers to online.

Here's one.
Why is it that it seems that really old, old people drive Buicks?
Everytime I get stuck behind someone in traffic it's invariably some q-tip in a Buick doing 20 mph under the limit.
I think there must be an age limit to buy a Buick, maybe 80 years old minimum.
Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, yeah, I've noticed that.

Here's my question.

Why is popeye looking at his arm? The boring answer will be 'because he's looking at his watch' ... but I think there's something else going on in that photo. Any guesses?

Why is popeye looking at his arm?

He has a power meter on it. It gives him such vital information as:
-How much green vegitables do I need to eat before powering up?
-How much time is left in this cartoon?
-Recent poll results on his "Why am I so worked up all of the time over a flakey whore?" thread.
Note: This was referring to the cartoon character, not the poster.

Edit:
My question: Why the hell do people watch sports, games, and other things that they could be doing themselves instead?

Casie, I have a theory on this.
I think that they probably grew up poor or working class and buy Buicks to show themselves that "they've arrived" but don't want to be "too flashy" and buy a Cadillac the Buick being the best car "under" a Cadillac.

At a Buick Dealership.

"Hi, can we help you young man?"
"Oh, I'm just looking around."
"Hey! How old are you?"
"I'm 55, why do you ask?"
"Get the fuck out of here, we don't have anything here for you!"
"But I,....."
"Scram! Get out of here you young whipper snapper!"

"Fuckin kids!"

What kills me more than the old folk in their Buicks are the old folk driving sports cars at 20 mph under the speed limit. I find myself thinking, you're supposed to go FAST in that car, not slow!

They rub the steering wheels with DentuGel and Vicks, and it's like bees to honey.

Why is it that whilst Popeye and I have so little in common, we come up with the same idea for a thread at about the same time?

Why isnt there such a thing as powdered or concentrated wine for cooking?

And old folks drive Buicks cuz they are all metal and safer.

(IMO lol)

My dad had a '66 Buick. I remember one time, I was shooting hoops, and heard a loud screeching sound. He had backed out of the garage and forgotten to close the car door.

I want to know why some parents send their kids off to college with a new car, a full bank account and plenty
of credit cards and then wonder why the kids fail their classes because they are out all night partying?!

And why some of these same parents never make sure their kids have basic domestic skills like grocery shopping,
cooking, laundry, cleaning and balancing a budget?

What exactly are they preparing them to be in life?

Marc Cohn - Silver Thunderbird

Watched it coming up Winslow
Down South Park Boulevard
Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood
Great big fins and painted steel
Man it looked just like the Batmobile
With my old man behind the wheel

Well you could hardly even see him
In all of that chrome
The man with the plan and the pocket comb
But every night it carried him home
And I could hear him sayin'...

Don't gimme no Buick
Son you must take my word
If there's a God in heaven
He's got a Silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me I wanna go down
In a Silver Thunderbird

He got up every morning
While i was still asleep
But I remember the sound of him shuffling around
Then right before the crack of dawn
I heard him turn the motor on
But when I got up they were gone

Down the road in the rain and snow
The man and his machine would go
Oh the secrets that old car would know
Sometimes I hear him sayin'...

Why? Why? Why, indeed?

And now on to Memphis-----
