Using the term "boy" for a slave goes back at least as far as classical Greece where males slave were routinely called "puer" which means "boy".

It's the same when a person in BDSM might call their female slave "girl".

It recognizes status; it is not belittling unless you want it to be.

Fox loves it when I say "good boy" or even when I call him "foxboy".

SlND3R3LLA -> RE: What is with this "boy" thing? (7/2/2007 1:50:13 PM)

I think for me it all depends on who is using the term.  If someone I don't belong to or submit to calls me "girl" in a derogatory way, it really ticks me off.  On the other hand, to hear the term "girl" roll of the tongue of the male/female that I am submitting to is one of the sweetest and most erotic sounds in the world.

Why have I answered my own question?

Within your definition were a few descriptions that fit.  I pointed them out specifically, but you snipped them out of my reply to you.   Thus, you answered your own question of how "boy" fit with not-young men, etc, by posting the definition.

quote:

If "boy" is a term of affection, I have not heard it as such.  I would like to hear the inflection before I pass judgement on what I think doesn't really fit, especially when a submissive is certainly not a boy, but a man.

I've certainly heard, and used, it as a term of affection.

quote:

If a domme wants a boy, then they are redily available.  And if a domme wants a seasoned and experience submissive, I do not see where the boy connotation fits.

Oh, I see, this is an "I'm no mere boy, I'm bigger, better, stronger!".  Nevermind.

quote:

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I do have the right to express that opinion.

Of course you do - but you shouldn't discount the replies just because they don't say what you want to hear, either.

I never knew this was common practise either until I met my current Mistress. She tends to use the term more in writing than in speech. Although I'm definitely part PETER PAN, I don't feel really feel like a boy either, except maybe when I'm with her.

When we're together, its often like we regress back into childhood playing games forgetting about the larger world and its attendant responsibilities.

he is in a position below Me---he serves Me, hence he is My boy.

Many Domme's call their submissive/slave males "boy" to remind them of their place and usually it is an affectionate term. Male Dom's usually call their subs/slaves "girl" for the same reason. My sub enjoys when I call him my boy. For those who do not enjoy the term they need to have a talk with their Domme about it.

i agree with Ms Lashra.  Most of my former Dommes called me boy, among other things.  i liked it as it reminded me of my subservience to Them.

What is with this practice of calling your submissive or slave "boy?"  It really seems silly to me.

I am hardly a boy anymore, so I cannot even comprehend the term within my frame of reference.

I think it's cute - - to call a man "boy". It's always 4me a term of endearment. and, they :) are, aren't they? I love boys. :)

If I were a guy, I would desire my Mistress to call me boy. Her boy.

What is it with this "girl" thing? Or "bitch" thing, slut thing or whore thing? Men have a far less colorful set of demeaning phrases available to toss at them, and yet you take issue with "boy?" Goodness me.

addicted2it -> RE: What is with this "boy" thing? (7/3/2007 10:54:36 PM)

It seems they will not date me,
But all they do is bait me,
Which makes me think they need a shrink,
Not before but lately

There are just as many colorful phrases to throw at a male... I mean a boy.  Including, but certainly not limited to the ones you mention in your post.   I called a submissive my slave bitch and another slut quite often, and they were said with wicked affection each and every time.

Women email me out of the blue and call me "boy" as if I somehow belong to them. It usually bugs me, and it may cause me to never respond to the person at all.

What I have noticed is that often it is one of those many "Tell me more about yourself, boy" one liners I get from women who I don't know anything about and, thus, have no reason to tell them more about myself in the first place.

MistressRouge -> RE: What is with this "boy" thing? (7/4/2007 3:09:31 AM)

I feel the "boy" thing is quite silly too, as I am from the U.K. maybe this is more of a US terminology lol [:D]

I only Dominate men, so I would not entertain a boy!

I thought it was Latin (Roman) rather than Greek?

Puer = boy

Puella - girl (Puella is also a regular poster on the boards, though elsewhere)

 Amayos:
A man yields serves and/or defers but I fail to find a lessoning in the quality of his content, physical strength, courage, determination and or a diminishing in the dedications and commitments that brought himto manhood. Calling him a boy, neither insults nor diminish him. Its simply a word.

Really?

I call Fox any of those things and a lot more depending on my mood.

Of course we don't think of them as demeaning usually. He IS an attention whore, he IS a slut, he IS my fucktoy, etc.

Maybe I'm confused but I did research on female ownership of slaves in Greece and I thought those were the terms use. This was years ago though. Exposed the problem with looking at only the law to determine the rights of women in the ancient world.

Right now all my Greek and Latin is focused on Amazon issues anything else becomes outside my ready reach. That's why I'm a historian and not a classicist.

A fair point! While I know many desire to "desexualize" these words, I can't help but feel many who reverse and apply terms traditionally used for women upon men do so with the intent to demean twice. It does make me sometimes wonder what is being indirectly said of women in these cases.

Nonetheles, I find it tragic we don't have widely used terms specific to lowering the male sex in our language. In order to do this, we often need to get "creative."
