raininggirl -> Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 5:14:37 AM)

Right, is it just me, or are the personal ads on this site the least informative of all time? Given that there is actually space to write stuff about who you are, what you're like, etc etc, why do so many Big Bad Doms (yeah right) just put 'Dom seeking sub', or words to that effect?

WE UNDERSTAND YOU'RE A DOM SEEKING A SUB, BY DEFINITION!

What else would people like to see in ads? For myself, I take it as read they're into BDSM so I really don't need to know they're strict and like spanking girls, it's bleeding obvious. I'm much more interested in whether they like sailing (eugh, hope not), football (yes please, what team?), if they ever go outside or are actually Olympic standard computer gamers. Something interesting.

Anyone else???

You should take a look at the ads from submissive ladies -- most are no better than what you complain about from the men.

I figure that that for every "Dom seeks sub" ad there is another saying "seeing true master", and this is a match made in heaven. And for those of us who think these folks having such vacant ads must be morons, it is a good way to eliminate them from consideration.

FuriousAngel -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 7:49:18 AM)

I get bored with redundant ads just as much as the next person does. At the same time, I keep an open mind. It's not a vanilla site, where people are more inclined to talk about 'vanilla interests'. It's a D/s site, hence, people are here to discuss what interests them, and their profiles often lean towards how they perceive themselves and/or seek in relation to D/s. As much as I notice/enjoy a diverse profile, I don't feel there is anything wrong with the approach used and certainly wouldn't complain about it.

For what it's worth, this realization is quite new to me. Might I suggest you try to keep an open mind about such profiles and give people a chance? I recently began exchanging with a local Dominant who had a reasonably 'typical' profile. If he'd not approached me first, I'd never have spoken to him just based on a few 'stereotype' words in his profile. To my pleasant surprise, he's not even addressed D/s in our correspondence. We talk about local recreation in our city, hobbies, interests, etc. He is a breath of fresh air!

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 8:45:38 AM)

I pass those type of profiles right on by. 1 liners or none at all don't even get a second glance as I head back to the listings. If they can't be bothered to make a decent profile that lets us know at the very least the basics like basic interests, I can't be bothered to think about it.

Nope. Not cookie cutter. And definitely informative. And way to go with the Python reference.

MagicKnots -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 12:51:35 PM)

Ah yes, the wonderful profiles of "i m a sub" and the like.

Here's one for you though. I recently emailed someone just to say hi and introduce myself and the reply I got was "ur profil wz to long to read".

Perhaps CollarMe should add another property to the profiles so we can search by it. IQ.

You could also use the journal to keep us up to date instead of changing/adding your profile. Not trying to be a smart ass, just wanted to mention it.

Pavel -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 12:54:19 PM)

I used to have a much longer more detailed one. Then I got kinda fustrated with the messages I was getting, and decided to just post a short n' sweet version, as I'm really not looking that hard.

It is just you. The ads here are as informative as any other site out there.

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/16/2005 4:14:55 PM)

My profile rocks, feel free to use it as a template.

Do NOT use a profile to give you entire life philosophy of the true meaning of a dom or sub

Do NOT use a profile to ramble off the key words of bdsm- ssc, safe calls, protection, all that, it's tired, it doesn't say anything unique about yourself.

Do NOT use a profile to make any sort of rant about how sucky any other group of people or person may be. Likewise, do NOT use a profile to list off the thousand things you WON'T DO SO DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Don't have spelling typos or major grammatical errors in a profile.

Points for pictures, its 2005, you're online, not having a reasonable picture is silly, specially if you're looking for a relationship from online.

Heh, I like profiles like this ;) Though, I like them when they -do- say unique things about self.

Maybe I just like wordy profiles. I mean, god knows mine is wordy enough.

raininggirl -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/17/2005 6:47:25 AM)

ah ha ha , on the subject of short-and-stupid messages, I just got this;

hello there
relocate?

that's it, the entire message!

smile2cu -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/17/2005 12:35:47 PM)

I kind of like my profile, but of course I'm kind of partial.

Got a laugh about this thread. Just loved raininggirl's "hello there
relocate?" Gee, if only it were quite that easy! [sm=lol.gif]
And MagicKnots' "ur profil wz to long to read". Yep, mine too.

Those of us that can read are clearly out of step here. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

quietkitten -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/17/2005 12:42:30 PM)

I love your profile smile2cu

I am not brave enough or apparently creative enough to make much of a profile.

Thanks. Yours is quite concise.

Come now, pick a few of the things about you that someone might like. I'm a kind and gentle person, so pick me, if no one else comes to mind. And just tell me about yourself. What might I like about you?
You're quiet. That's fine. Sometimes I am too. What brought you to this site? I see you're a submissive. Just trying it out in your mind or interested in real time? (Either is OK, and you don't even have to answer.)
I'm just trying to make a few suggestions. Email me if you'd like, and I'd be happy to help.

If it rocks how come you are still available? Just curious. [;)] Besides, the first thing it comes out with is how smart you think you are (which you have said more than once in the forums as well). Immediate turn off for Me. Pride is not a virtue and it manifests itself in more than one way in your profile (and this comment I quoted. you hold yourself in very high regard).

Lordandmaster -> RE: Ads on this site. sigh.... (6/17/2005 6:13:05 PM)

Right, but Capitalizing Yourself is a manifestation of supreme humility and virtue.

Actually, her profile does rock and she is intelligent...lol. I've often wondered why men feel quite free in stating facts about themselves, particularly the positives, but when women do it, its considered prideful and a turnoff. It seems to me that the problem lies with the receiver of the message...not the messenger. If you take it at face value, instead of looking for some underlying reason for the comment (as in she holds herself in high regard), then communication becomes easier. More women should be as self-confident as EmeraldSlave2 is. Maybe there wouldn't be so many of them running around with self-esteem issues.

BTW...you must have missed the part where she is owned. [;)]

best regards,
fate
