This is a pretty easy question. I've heard sub's ( or slaves? ) were given "names" different from their own. I'm not referring to namecalling, like "bitch" or "slut", but a name that your dom gives you. So I was wondering, is this true? You can be given a name? And if so,...Why would you do that? ( Or what's your name? )

It's true in that some people do it. I have never come across it personally, nor heard of it in my social circles.

In public play circles, many people use a scene name rather than their own. Often times these names are given to the sub by her dominant. I think it is because people sometimes do not wish to have their real identity connected with the BDSM scene. It is actually very common.

Beyond that, some dominants simply choose to rename their subs. Their reasons for doing so are probably as individual as they are.

On the first day we decided to give D/s a try he asked if he could call me Pita. I said yes and it has become as much my name as my real name. Acutally more so, since those at Starbucks mark my cup with the name, Pita. [:D]

My Master named me zindy. We did this because well....hard to actually pin point why. It is something that defines my submissive self to me and him.

Early on, I had someone give me a sub name. He wasn't really a dom, just a top, so I knew we would be "scene"ing when he called me by this name.
 
Now, Master mostly calls me little girl, so if he uses my given name, I jump to attention (much to His amusement).

Think of picking out a dog at the shelter. You take it home, train it, care for it ... and name it. You own this animal - it is yours. Some Masters and Doms use renaming to keep the s-type in that mindset, i.e., "You don't even own your own name."

Master gave me the name petal to use in any online interaction . . . he says because I am delicate and beautiful just like the petal from a flower (he also thinks it's handy to abbreviate to pet).

He does plan to legally change my name and that is at my request.  I have a very bad family background and my given name reminds me of those wounds.  Giving him the opportunity to remold me even down to my name is an act of submission on my part and an act of control on his.  My life started anew with him.

For a brief period of time, the only Dom I was with gave me a name because I had a hard time just letting go and enjoying intellectually and emotionally what my body enjoyed.  He thought it would help me get out of my head.  I don't think it had that effect, but it was worth trying.  Interestinly, he originally wanted to call me Tanya, and all could think of was Tanya Harding and just couldn't deal with that one!

nope don't have any other names except the one i was given on the day of my birth

i have actually been given a name different from my own, by which my Master refers to me almost solely.  the differentiation between what i was called prior to my enslavement and what i am since means a great deal to me.

Easy question,some times I do,some times I don't depends on my mood and IF I particular like the name she came to me with..I tend to name after jewels or desert flowers..bounty

In a prior relationship with a slave, I didn't really care for her given name.  After some discussion, we settled on her middle name, which was not an unattractive name.  Nearly immediately afterwards, she began telling her acquaintances to start calling her by this different name, she filled in applications with her first inital and full middle name, to be better recognized by that name, etc.  I think the toughest sell was with her parents, and as I think about it, whenever I spoke to them on the phone I still think they always called her by her first name (ugh!).

Well i did have a name given to me it was akamda that was a while ago and i don't use it anymore.  Master also gave me a name sweetheart  maybe not a name but that is all he calls me so to me it is my name and i love it.
