you are entitled to your judgement and feelings with regards to the post... and others are entitled to theirs.

My post stands as is..I make no apologies for it

lol... that's fine :)  It's what makes the world go round and discussion possible. Like you, I make no apologies for my stands either.

I think there is a difference between ignorant and stupid questions. The ignorant questions are "I don't know about X", but they just lack knowledge and have an open mind.

IMO, the stupid questions are based on flawed "knowledge" obtained by being gullible and thinking they have entered some kind of role playing fantasy land where common sense is not allowed. An example of this would be "My master won't release me -- what should I do?" (and even better if he is an on-line master). That stuff just makes me scratch my head and wonder if they are posting from another planet.

this isn't a classroom.  People don't react the same, to questions or statements.  Some people will answer anything if its a sincere question.  I was once dealing with a retard in a public place, and answered several questions but really didn't want to sit around all day dealing with a 2 year old mentality....

In a classroom I've heard before the teacher say there isn't a dumb question.  no one ever really tested that by asking really dumb questions about the subject matter over and over.   I think eventually if they didn't act smarter they would be riding the short bus to school....

I remember in wood class we had 3 of us sitting near a retard, I spent one entire day making a comic strip about him breaking pencils as a show of his major karate skill.........

sometimes its more important the point of the question than the question itself....like in the above example the kid is trying to delay the class by asking stupid questions....its kind of intelligent although its testing the patience of the teacher.....

Granted many people are lazy about forming questions and not being clear when posing them. I too maybe wearing some blinders and usually assume that the questuioner is asking a legit question. From what I have seen with many people, some are quite articulate in writing and some people are not.

yeah.. and just because someone is alittle less articulate.... doesn't mean they are a flake or idiot.   In fact, a good BS'er can be very articulate but no absolutely shit...... I suppose we might listen alittle better to the content and less to the performance.

<raises hand> Yes, I'm one of those a bit less gifted in the articulate arena, lol.
In the ideal online world, everybody would be clear as crystal when they posted, not to mention rational. But I think most people have been guilty of typing out these off the cuff replies or posts without thinking first.

Y'know, the most AMAZING thing about your post is that the "retard" you sat next to in woods class (and so many many others out there) was probably working to his or her capacity - giving 110% to learn what you take for granted.

You made comic strips ridiculing that person.

And honestly, just WHO is the "retard"?

I wish you all the good things in life kevin...including eventually the opportunity to fight for your children when others are ridiculing them for what they can't do. And I hope then, that you remember these comments.

some how, i suspect that many who have had the "pleasure" of meeting you probably begin stories the next day with "man i met this retard/moron/knowitall/asshole last night"

i have never seen any one as capable of showing absolutely no compassion for anything or anyone in their written word.....

How fortunate for you that you had someone you could "belong with" before you came into this lifestyle. That's a rarity.

How nice that for all of us who were single when we discovered this - for those of us who, without the support of someone who cared for us, learned with us, loved us, that due to our "baggage," we were only doing this because we wanted to "belong" as well.

How nice that all of us who were single when we discovered this about ourselves seem to be reduced in your post to the image of grasping and dysfunctional grabbing at the little brass ring of "coupledom" that you enjoy and just can't seem to "ask the right questions."

I wonder how you'd have fared if that had been your journey as well. But you must feel very enlightened that you didn't have to navigate the waters of lies and ruses and misinformation, desire and flat out need with no one to learn from or with along the way.

This may not be the way you're thinking, but it sure comes off that way in your post.

Juliet**I missed this post last night.
I agree with you 100% on this one.
Many of us were introduced and learned about BDSM online.
I was approached by a submissive male 4 years ago in a non/BDSM chat room,
who introduced me to this lifestyle.
I knew NOTHING about this lifestyle, except I thought S/m were weirdo's that did weird things.

I was separated from my husband, bored with vanilla dating and it piqued my interest.
We talked for several months online and on the phone, and he helped open my eyes.
The point is, we all enter this lifestyle for different reasons and at different places in our own lives.
Personally, I love to read so I began "researching" this lifestyle, by reading, reading and reading,
sitting in BDSM chats {which I learned little except to stay away from most in there}, and talking to people in this lifestyle.

I am thankful to all the Dominants and submissives that have helped me along the way.

One thing I have learned, is that for some reason many with a lot of experience in this lifestyle for some reason
often feel like they are "better" than those of us with less experience.

At this point, it is nothing more than amusing.[sm=mrpuffy.gif]
If some people feel that being an expert at this lifestyle and being an authority makes them feel "special" or better than others, than I am happy for them.[;)]

My self worth is really not tied to being an expert or authorty on all things BDSM.
My self worth is based on who I am, my goals and dreams, helping others and making the world a better place.
I come here to laugh, learn and have fun and I am not here to impress others.

**By the way, I have learned a lot in many different areas here at CM, sometimes more in the OffCHat, I have also made some wonderful lifestyle friends here.  Some with A LOT more experience and some with NO real time experience, my choice of friends is based on how they treat me and their character, not how long they have been in this lifestyle.
Some of the women I have found the most helpful and friendly are Professional Dominants.[:D]

In fact, the submissive male that I am growing very fond of, has very little real experience.
But he is the most remarkable man I have met in years.
**I prefer those with limited experience, they are often more pliable and we get to do wicked NEW fun things together as we grow and learn, together.**
[:D]
Peace

camille65 -> RE: The stupid questions? or is it something else? (7/13/2007 6:34:40 AM)

It's hard to ask the first few (or dozen) questions here, or at least it was hard for me. I lurked for months before I posted because I was scared of the very reaction many of you mentioned.
The sarcastic automatic dismissal.
Personally there is only one question on these boards I consider stupid and that question is 'what is gor' lol. I don't know why it bugs me but it does. [&:]
I do my best to answer questions via PM or in forum, even when they are so obviously newbie. Especially when they are so obvious newbie.
It makes me feel icky inside when someone asks a question and the replies are 'look it up' or a series of links is provided (sorry LA :( there are times for those but I think it is unfair of a newbie question) or just the 'how dumb could you be to ask that question. It isn't kind. It isn't necessary.

Instead of seeing it as possible stupid question day, I consider it more like... stupid answer day. I swear it feels like there are a few people that actually get off in some way by answering with snarky replies and I freakin hate that. Is your life so boring that you have the time to compose sarcastic or belittling comments? Or do you have them prewritten hehe.
The same questions emerges in my mind on a daily basis here, if you don't like the post/er and they are not directly posting to you then by all the little green gods why why don't you just pass over the thread?

Stuff that is old hat and entrenched in others can be brand spanking new to someone else.

I know that there are inflammatory questions but I always begin with the assumption that it is not meant that way, that it is someone simply and genuinely seeking an answer. Those kind of forums I usually go to PM rather than in forum.

It has always been easy for me to empathise or see from another's view. Actually too easy, people tell me I am far too giving and trusting but dang it I won't change that into being jaded and cynical.

KoM I didn't see this post of yours as a negative approach. Rather I see it as something you don't understand and therefore are asking about it.

I bet if a newbie had posted the same question the outcome would have been very different. But you are established and you can definitely take the heat lol.

Why should newbies 'have to toughen up, grow thicker skin' etc. This place shouldn't be a shark pool, rather it should be a pool of experience and knowledge.

Trampler -> RE: The stupid questions? or is it something else? (7/13/2007 7:27:25 AM)

Kevin, I found your response to be extremely offensive and outrightly stupid.  You should educate yourself about the varied types of disabilities people can have, whether it is from birth defects, genetics, as the result of smoking, drinking, etc.  Making a response like you did makes you look like an ignorant a**hole!

And to expand on this theme....many questions seem to come from people who have forgotten about the role that personal responsibility should play in their life.  You are ultimately responsible for your life, regardless of lifestyle choice.  Hello?

My opinion:  That's one of the ugliest posts on this board.

Now in contribution to this thread, my two cents are that while there are stupid questions, I like to believe that most questions posed are made with good intentions.  What counts is how we respond to a well-meaning question, whether with maturity and self-restraint, or by ridiculing the person who asked the question.

let me try to understand this, your calling me names today, because you think I called someone else names x number of years ago......

insulting is common in school, appearantly some people never do grow up....

I'm hoping my kids when I have some aren't retarded....if I did have kids who were retarded, I'd tell them to suck it up and insult the people back who were insulting them, its a really lame game that shows the person's mentality, thinking that by putting someone else down your raising yourself up.  there are a million and one insults.....and some of them are pretty funny...I always liked the Your momma wears combat boots.   The point of the game is to make the person feel bad and ignore anything they say....or at least not let it bother you....

Unfortunately I truly am a compassionate, caring individual and stupidly think everyone should like me even though I don't want any fame, so at times it does irk me, even if a stranger is insulting in anyway...

There was this one kid in school who was constantly insulting me, and for months I tried to ignore him, but eventually in tears I said I had enough, and if he had a problem with it I was going to give him a beat down right there and then.....generally I like to physically hurt people who think they can emotionally abuse me if I'm too lazy to come up with an insult.......

Reminds me of the time my ex-best friend would constantly insult me, but he was getting sick of being punched, he finally told me he wanted me to stop punching him, and I was like fine....then when he insulted me agian I punched him out of habit in the arm, he was like hey, I was like stop insulting and I'll stop punching...

you think you know me, but in reality you're only reading a few words, and know little about me....

I was recently told that I was friendly IRL when dealing with strangers....

The OP in another thread asked me info just so he could try to insult me, so motivation of the questioner is just as important as the question itself....

I really don't want to use large words to disguise disabilities, they are what they are...

if you don't like someone being blunt, and forthright, and want to hide behind inuendos....or political correctness, you can....but that isn't my way....

and in person I am a little more thoughtful on my choice of words, but here, I like to speak my mind, not MINCE words....  I like to save keystrokes....

my general rule in normal life is not to even talk about something a person cannot change, I only critisize what I think is easy to change....

Trampler -> RE: The stupid questions? or is it something else? (7/13/2007 8:44:07 AM)

kevin,
pot calling kettle black.  Again it is very obvious how much you do not know about those who have disabilities. yes UM's tease, they can be viscious.  BUT you are not a kid now.  So why are you acting like one?  I'm sure you do have the capacity to be a nice, compassionate human being, but from what I have seen of your posts so far,it shows that you rarely choose to be that way.

I'm sorry Knight for hi-jacking, you and others bring up alot of good points :)
