I couldn't help but notice that the Woman in Blue (WiB) was asked a perfectly sensible question and did not or more likely could not answer it and eventually walked away. The WiB also repeated the total lie that GWBush has killed 700 000 people The Man in White took the stance which I support meaning that he was RIGHT. lol Minority views frequently are lol Saddam was a nasty piece of work and its a good thing he has gone. Now if only those peace loving Muslims would settle down, form a peace loving government and resist incursion into their peace loving country all would be well.

Americans are so interesting - especially their opinions and arguments on the war ... it can sometimes be painful to listen to. As a proud army wife I find some things to be amusing. There are times when people criticize my hubby for being deployed to Iraq and serving overseas (in fact, people can be down right rude to us about it) ... and there are other times when strangers will come up, shake his hand and hand him a $100 bill (I really wish that second one happened more often than the first, lol).

The fact that the Man in White had had no military experience in Iraq doesn't invalidate his views or take away his right to comment. If that line of thought were so, for example only those who had committed murder would be entitled to a view on the subject. Were he a military man, had avoided going to Iraq and then supported the War, the point being made in this thread would be valid. As far as we know he isn't so it aint.

maybe it's just me, but i think the reason America is there has strayed a long way from the original reason America went there in the first place. right now, it's more of a political ploy rather than finding Bin Laden. as George Carlin would probably say, it's Bush wagging his dick at Iraq and saying, "Mine's bigger than yours" but, hey...i've been wrong before...or am i now?

We would have drafted a million men, and then been able to deploy 500,000 troops to do the job right. And we would have tossed Bremer out of the plane on the way OVER THERE, before he could do anything fucking dumb. Was Hussein an asshole. Yes. Are the Citizens of the US responsible for the OCCUPATION FAILURE? Yes. Are the Citizens of the US responsible for the deaths during their failed Occupation? You broke it, You bought it.

That's one aspect which pisses me off. Bush is exploiting your Husband's HONOR and INTEGRITY, when Bush, himself has neither, by sticking him in a situation he can't walk away from. A situation, some allege, Bush needed to commit Felony Fraud in order to setup. Your husband is too good a man to say, "Blow this for a lark!", and just come home. Your husband is doing the right thing, for the wrong reasons, and that is why Bush needs to be shut down. Your husband, and anyone willing to make those sacrifices, is too valuable to the survival of the Republic to be needlessly wasted. You guys are too good to be screwed over by Bush. In my municipality, Firefighters and Paramedics are Professionals, HOWEVER, I am a fully trained NYS EMT from my days living where we had a Volunteer corps... Your suggestion, for whom it is appropriate, is certainly salient and welcome, however.

Do you support the war in Afghanistan? No. Now, if you asked, "Would I support violating Afghanistan's sovereign borders to pick up Bin-Ladin, after Afghanistan refused to pick him up?" That would be different, and I could understand it being covered under the doctrine of "Hot Pursuit". Of course, you'd have to deliver him to a Court after he's in custody. Now, Assuming the GOVERNMENT of Afghanistan was a threat, I could have gotten behind the landing of the Marines on one border, and them marching to the opposite border, removing the extant government, secure in the knowledge that after they returned home, should the successor gov't be a threat to the United States, we could do it again at any time.

I wouldn't say that classifying someone as a "Professional" changes it one bit. Just adds in a sterotype. My point was, escentially, that people can believe in something, and support it, without wanting to have to take the brunt of it. That one doesn't have to not support something in sentiment to not be actively fully involved. Sort of like how many religious people aren't Priests. Most aren't, actually. That whole vow-of-celeabacy gets them. Anyhow, my point is against this argument- that people who support the war but don't enlist are pussies. While I may or may not support the war, this argument- or, rather, insult- is not a valid one; thus, it should not factor into any legitimate arguments. I feel there should be a good political debate going on in America. But things like this- where people grab the nearest and easiest pile of shit that they can fling at someone that they see as opposed to their point of view- seems to clog any honest intellectual inquary.

I suppose the difference is that Firefighters aren't explicitly hired to kill, and be killed, however the troops are. When you deploy troops, you are sending them to DIE and KILL. To believe otherwise is to live in denial of the realities. And in that context your analogy breaks down.
