I was on Alt before I came here, I was a paying member, they used my pic to promote Alt on a pro Domme site, so here I was oblivious to the ways of site promotion, and getting approached on CM by submissive men wanting to know how much I charged!!!

I quit as soon as I realized it and had my stuff taken off their site, I haven't been back

Oh...I just remembered...I found my same profile, emails, etc. from alt, on other sites like *not sure I remember correctly, but I think one was* bdsmpersonals.  I also found it on another site...apparently they mirror their site exactly with other names.  Two years ago, a google search showed me mirror sites with my alt profile and emails on it, and I was NOT pleased.

Also, as for the really high member count on alt?  A couple I know opened a profile, never went back, and alt kept it as an active profile for 6 years.  As far as I know, it's still there and "active."  A friend died over two years ago after deleting his profile, and it was STILL THERE in October and showing as active.  A family member made a profile there 3 years ago and when realizing he couldn't do much there, never went back.  His profile's still there as far as I know.  Many make "sex site"  profiles while drunk or stoned in the middle of the night (I asked some of the outrageously-named members in the past who wandered into that chatroom, and that's what they told me) - and I'm sure more than a few have never come back to that site or remembered they have a profile there.  So I firmly believe many of the "active membership" there, if one cares enough to check their last logon dates, are not "active" at all.

What was said about the more detailed profile information on alt, is correct.  There is a lot more optional information one can check off there to give others more of a clear idea of what they enjoy and about themselves, without spending time writing it him/herself.

I like this site better...now if I were interested in quick kinky sex with married men, maybe not so much LOL

My profile is still active on alt.  I keep it going because, try as I might, I have never figured out what is blocking Me from using the chat rooms here.  Even if I could manage that, I don't know if I'd give up alt entirely.  As opposed to keeping a journal on this site, I have a wonderful memory blog on alt, that I would like to keep as it is.
 
As for AFF, yes, it is geared more to sex and swinging, but I did meet both pet and chosen through that forum, so I can't say it's all bad.  I'll admit to having seen more than My share of unsolicited cock pics.
 
On both of the above, I have a couples profile.  I've never had an issue with looking at other profiles, sending mail (10 a day for standard members), or any other benefit.  I'm well versed in the minimum views (50) I need to get certain priviledges.  Not to be egotistical, but I can get 50 views to My profile with a limited display of face cam.
 
Overall, I much prefer CM.  The intellectual discussions on the boards far surpass anything I've seen on either of the other two.  No limits on emails is a big plus.  While I've met great people on the other services, I'm much more at home here.

I am on alt also, and I actually participate on 1 message board there.
Collarme is so much better than alt, there is no comparison between them.
NONE, Collarme wins hands down.

My experience on alt is that it is a total meat market and is a great place for swingers,
and those that want to deal with shady people and have 1 night stands.

 I consider alt the seedy bar, that is dark and dingy, and filled with people that are dubious at best.
I consider CollarMe a 5 star,sparkling and top flight, classy bar filled with stars. [sm=smile.gif]

Thanks everyone for your input.  After reading your replies I can see that Alt.com is not a place for me.  I'm fortunate in that CM is the first bdsm site that I joined.  All of the other sites pale in comparison.  Thanks again for responding to my post and helping me to keep my hard-earned money in my pocket!

May i also add that whoever runs Alt.com & AFF do a very poor job of it.
Thier websites are very unreliable.

Messages frequently do not get delivered, profiles are removed for no known reason, search & browsing for users gives inaccurate results, the sites are often very slow, webcams are super unreliable, etc, etc.

Yup, stay away.

I have an account on alt..have for years under a few different names...I keep a blog there..have made great friends there and still pop in there occasionally ...I am on bondage too...I don't pay for any sites...they are all basically the same...you have to sort through tons of crap to find that one hidden jewel...for me it has been worh the sorting..

i have accounts on Alt, Bcom. Also on Alt, i am a moderator of a local British Columbia discussion/community group. Everyone that i have met, has come from being on Alt, attend the same parties, munches, the BC chat room. i spend equal time on both Alt and Collarme, the nicks are the same, Bcom has a slight variation to my name and i rarely login.

I totally agree - love the energy over here!
Everything people have said about ALT is true - look out for BDSM Datelink too.  They advertise free joining.  You can open a profile, look at as many pictures and profiles as you like, send as many messages as you like BUT they won't allow you to read them until you join!!
Major disapppointment.

I know your a busy person and all but I thought I might offer a couple yahoo groups for the state of maine... Maine does have a decent community, with some people who are worth calling Family if not Friends... There is also a social the 3rd saturday of every month except july at fastbreaks on lisbon st in lewiston. That social starts at 4 pm I do believe.

i have been on alt and aff paying for it Meany years
did meet lots of good folks over the years
but it has gone way down hill and i cut them off last week and told them no moneys from me :)
i have found 2 good sites i like better and this one is at the top as soon as i found this one i had to let alt and aff go lol

they do have instant messenger, which, so far, is still free. i don't look at the male pics, but i understand they don't discriminate when it comes to allowing male nudity as well as female nudity. but, alas, they do still charge for viewing profiles and reading emails.

i have profiles on all the majors like most of you and alt by far has been the worst experience of them.
Most of the men on there seem to be totally full of crap, three times when i replied that i didn't feel our profiles matched they would switch it and say "how about now?" including changing things like years of experience and std status. /groan! i've also known people who have worked there and been treated very badly by the company.

Bondage.c seems to have alot of very nice people on it but doesn't seem to have as many people going through it. They also just got bought by friendfinder so i have a feeling it will be downhill from here. However, i know plenty of fabulous people who work with them and are quite happy. Another writer Dom friend of mine just got offered a gig doing articles over there also and he has had pleasant experiences as well.

On collarme, i've been very mixed for me. I've met friends & one 6 month long relationship but also have come across quite a few stalker like slime balls! They also seem to love turning down any of my photos that are black and white so I've stopped trying to submit pics all together. That seemed to raise the quality of my replies quite a bit, even if they are slower to come.
