I had a free account with Bondage.com because I submitted a story.  Someone forgot to cut me off after my 3 months were up, so I got a whole year free.  Didn't really matter- I met very few people there.  Still have an old account there I haven't logged into for months.  My husband and I have a couple's profile on Alt.com-silver membership so he can look at the pictures.  He's not always looking at the people themselves.  Sometimes it's the dungeon and the equipment or the way someone is bound.  I had my own profile (silver also) for a while, but they kicked me off because I stated that I was a pro domme and that was against their rules.  Really?  I pointed out several other profiles that were put in by pro dommes, but for some reason they never bothered them.  From our other profile I have also pointed out some profiles that are clearly involved in ileagel actvites such as 'breeding slaves', but nothing has ever been done to them either.  I finally posted another profile (standard) simply stating that my husband and I were looking for a females sub, but I can't seem to do anything anymore.  As someone else mentioned, all I can do is send and receive winks.   I get around this by contacting them with our silver account, but we have yet to meet anyone that was worthwhile.  In my personal opinion, Collarme is the best site around and I love the fact that it's free.

.....met a few good Dommes on Alt but it seemed they all lived distances away--- my impression is that its more beneficial for couples looking--- love the level of discussion on the CM boards= very superior to anything on Alt.

Joining ALT would be a smart move if you are looking for a submissive. The membership cost is well worth the time and energy you waste searching elsewhere. ALT is the largest  BDSM personal site in the world. The majority of my lifestyle friends are on ALT. Most of the new people I meet are from ALT. I only know a handful of real BDSM folks on CM. I don't think  I've ever met anyone real life  through CM. ALT has more volume than CM, therefore your chances of meeting someone is greater. CM's search features and message boards are better than ALT's. I enjoy and appreciate both sites.

Well, when I first left my Ex-Husband the cock photos actually had a lot to do with my selection processes.
One it could prove (or so I thought) they could get all the way hard & 2- I could tell how long and thick it is.

  I'm on my second account on ALT , the only reason i needed a second was because i was off site for about 18 months so it was deactivated.  Same name i use here but with a 12 instead of 11.   I really haven't had any negative experiences.  I used to "Hang out" in a regional chat, met...and played with some awesome people, even had a couple of attempted  relationships.
 Most of the chatrooms  though, are filled with bizarre cyber fantasy world living folks.   Even the best of them get eventually overrun with "drama"  in -fighting which is when i lose complete interest.

I love the fact that Alt is more open to nudity, i know I'm in the minority, but i happen to enjoy looking at genitalia...and other types of things that CM will not allow.  I also like the fact that Alt has a web cam room, for when i want to see...or be....some live amateur porn.  This also means that at times I'll see things i wish i hadn't, but...that happens in the streets and  life in general.  

I wouldn't pay for Alt...or CM, or any other site.

I am not a pro-anything, but I got kicked off of alt 3 times with 2 different screennames...seems if there is a gold ball beside the members name, and you disagree with them in advice lines, or on blogs, they may act like a moron, and actually be a moron...but if you call them a moron, they call and  complain, and out you go...or in this case, as gergethorogood said "out the door I went"..I aplogized and made nice--I am there again...lessons in humiliation [:(]

It's like everything else in life it depends what you want a site for.

I had a paid acct on alt a few years back and let it lapse. I now have a free account. I am however in aggreement with the statements here that the folks posting at alt are by and large out for the sex.   My reason for posting there is simple.   If one is serious about catching fish, one casts a wide net. Who knows what might be around the next web page.

In a place like Utah one takes what one can get. I used it many years ago, let it go once involved in something serious and now that that's gone the way of all good things will most likely use it again. Like so many things, well, like everything, it really is what you make of it. Perhaps it's a function of age but as I look around it does seem as if the whole damn world is rapidly becoming one big crapfest. No reason to expect Alt would be immune.

I have been on alt for years.  Before all the fancy changes they have now.  Back when standard members could look at profiles etc.  The only value I have found for Alt has been it's chat rooms all other avenues of Alt are of little value to me.  One of my wiser decisions was never giving Alt a single penny of my money.    Particularly when you consider that I met Kyra on Alt and didn't spend any money to do so... I think I found the deal of the century.

I started on alt as a newbie and took a gold membership- (What's money when there's excitement?!), unaware of C/M and approached Dom/mes asking for assistance when my first sub acted very strangely (was an extreme  subspacer) and received no assistance.  On the Aussie chat room, I was ignored in calls for assistance also (cos her deep spacing was pretty worrying to me)  When I did get assistance (from a Dom whom she 'slinked to the floor' in front of him and began shaking uncontrollably; when I greeted her in my way) I finally found answers. 
Alt is very sexually kink based and generally contains people with either no knowledge or total rudeness in sharing info to others.

Damm- all I had to do then was to find here and pose the newbie questions for L/A or KOM- Hey I would have regarded authoritive directions as the deal of my century!

Kane, my experience with Alt couldn't have been more the opposite. There were very few people available in my general area of Tampa (hardly a small town). What's more, despite their claim that so many hundreds of new people join every day, I would typically go weeks before seeing someone new pop up close to me. I also found the responses to be much fewer there than I did when I was looking here on CM. It quickly became evident to me that Alt was a waste of money. Over the past few years, my attitude has expanded to the point that I think that ANY pay site is a waste of money. Back when I was still searching, I went for the free sites, or I went out and met people in person (coffee houses, book stores, etc.).

When I first got into the online BDSM community, Alt.com was my introduction. This was way back in the day when their chat rooms were set up in large geographical areas. I hung my hat in the "East Coast" room. I met most of my circle of lifestyle friends there. Many of which I only get to see when I attend the winter FFF hosted by NELA. I digress.

Is it worth the money? Especially for a male? No. I've had both paid and free accounts on that site. I've met very few male submissives from there and only one has proven to be of any worth. That one pearl among the swine would be my current boyfriend/submissive whom I winked at and we became friends (with benefits). We stayed in this situation for several years, seeing each other every 3-4 months. It's only in April of this year that we made the move to commit to each other monogamously. Best decision I've ever made. Note; I met him during my free account.

As to Bondage.com. For a female dominant, I feel it's a waste of time. IMNSHO, I believe it's geared towards male dominants and female submissives as those were the majority of the posters I viewed on the boards there. The only male submissive I met in the flesh there was a disappointment, to say the least. The OP may get more out of that site than Alt.com simply because the numbers are in his favor. I never had a paid account on that site, so I can't offer any advice as to whether it's worth the cash.

As many others in this thread; I keep free accounts on those other sites, but check them sporadically. I stay here to peruse the forums. More entertaining and better laid out. Collarme is by far the best online BDSM community site I've come across to date.

I agree with your assessment of ALT and Bondage.com, bella.  I have an account on ALT, but it seems geared more toward the swinger lifestyle than D/s.  I don't go there (to ALT!) very often.  I know males on ALT and on CM who don't get ANY emails from Dominants, but I know a few who are very successful.  I belong to quite a few D/s oriented Yahoo groups and most of them seem to be comprised of male Doms and fem subs.  I love bondage!  and I love men in bondage.  I'd like to see more pics of men in bondage!   (boy, did THAT sound shallow!  lol)
