ORIGINAL: Maynard When I checked "willing to relocate" on my profile, I wasn't thinking it ment across the country. I would never move across the country for an internet sub. I just can't learn some of the most important things, in my book, online. Never is a very long time. I can see people objecting to people who seem willing to move in right away before a relationship is developed, and I can see people wanting to take time before committing to a relationship... but I don't see distance as a factor here. It just makes it a bit harder to get to know someone, that's all. I hadn't thought about it before, but I just realized that my current sub and the two prior relationships I've had were with people who moved over a thousand miles to be with me. The first one lasted 2.5 years and we still hang out together. The second I met online, we talked for awhile, I helped her move and she moved right in with me. It lasted 2 years and was not a bad experience- she left much better off than she arrived. And the third was one I met online, picked up in my car when they arrived in this city, and stayed with me for awhile before getting their own place, we moved in together again less than a year later... and that relationship has been going strong for 6 years now. I submit that it is really a matter of getting to know someone well and being disciplined about who you invite into your life that determines the success of relationships-- whether they live across the country, across your state or across town.
