Well, nothing from the list above speaks to me about how good a president Bush is. You state why you think he is a great guy, and I wish you the best of luck with that, but it's subjective, to say the least.

I agree with you on one point though: he has successfully managed to throw America's weight around, thus terrifying the entire planet about what was once a great country.

*sigh*

Same disease.

You state why you think he is a great guy

No I don't.

but it's subjective
Agreed.  On both sides.

I agree with you
No offense, but you don't even get my point.

Great post losttreasure.  Actual research without being "preachy" and room for others to still have their view.  Made me a bit embarrassed for my previous sarcasm.

This is from a list created by supporters of Bush and as they aren't here to tell you why they feel the President is doing a good job, I thought I'd let their words speak for them.

Whew.... I was about to say, you sure do type fast lt. [:D]

No offense taken. It seems my rather brutal european ways don't clash too well with the local climate at present. Apologies, but I shan't quit trying.

...awww, go on. Give us some more reasons as to why you admire what Bush has done for the US.

I'm not sure what you were reading, but this is what FirmhandKY said:

Well, taking the Devil's Advocate for this case, I think someone could easily say...

Do either of you know what a "Devil's Advocate" is?

In case you don't, it is a person who advocates an opposing or unpopular cause for the sake of argument or to expose it to a thorough examination.

Oh please!

I can say that having voted for Bush twice, I would not do so a third time, if that scenario were possible. Of course, some of what he's done, or tried to do, is good, but overall, I'm disappointed.

Ditto.

He's squandered several great opportunities, and pissed away a lot of good will needlessly.

OK, OK, you guys are right.  Two thirds of the population thinks the president is doing a bad job, but I'm wrong about that, because if you read the whole article you discover that one third thinks he's doing a great job!

Dont forget the rest of the Republican controlled Congress who were supported by Democrats who were lied to, who are now preventing Congress from even voting on withdrawing troops.

I think the premise that "people are unhappy with Democrats" does not logically lead to "people would be much happier with Republicans."  Although I do find it amusing that some people make this connection.

It is entirely possible that people (that would be voters, citizens of the US, etc) want them all taken out behind the barn and taught a lesson about how to do their job.

Bush did not lie. It makes no difference how many times you repeat it, it still isn't true. He went with the intelligence info that every intelligence agency in the world believed as well. You might as well believe that Bush caused global warming. Oh wait, you believe that as well.

I knew he was a piece-of-shit-Socialist back when he was in Texas. How'd he fool you?

Is it that difficult to understand that there are people around who can step back and try to be fair and unbiased in their political discussions?

I really don't get this "iffin ya ain't agin him, ya must be fer him" mentality.

It was the fake mustache. [X(]

I wouldn't say he fooled me; I thought he was a decent guy (still do) that would work well with the Dems (he whiffed on that one) like he did here in Texas.

Let me just take one example.

A man was given a lie detector test in Thailand wherein he made the statement that "Hussein attempted to acquire yellowcake from Niger."

The lie detector CIA person noted that the person was showing all of the statements of being a compulsive liar, and viewed his testimony as completely false.

Bush presented this statement as evidence to Congress, the UN, the US public, etc., that Hussein attempted to acquire yellowcake from Niger.

Sure, maybe he did not lie.

What do they call that sort of calculated attempt to deceive where you come from?

Sinergy

edited to point out that the Bush administration made no (zero, zilch, nihil, nada, zippo) effort to corroborate this information.

I can't believe right-wingers are still playing that canard.

It's not true.  Even George Tenet says it's not true.

Some people seem to think that, the more they bitch about their opponents, the more attractive they become, by contrast.

Republicans really aren't doing that great of a job. Democrats, though? They make me sick to my stomach. I think a lot of people feel in a similar way. One would think this might give a third party a shot- which, we may see some improvements for them- but I doubt most people will want to do what they see as a throw-away vote. Voter apathy might increase? Or will people go to the polls in a tizzy?

SugarMyChurro -> RE: Bush 2x more popular than Dem Controlled Congress. (7/19/2007 7:23:11 PM)

In the U.S. there is a lot of propaganda suggesting that we are a democratic republic - but that's a lie. This is a plutocracy, plain and simple. It was just never so obvious until Junior got into office. Now, anyone with even a half a zombie brain can see it.

CuriousLord -> RE: Bush 2x more popular than Dem Controlled Congress. (7/19/2007 7:25:20 PM)

Nothing is so plain nor simple, Sugar.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Bush 2x more popular than Dem Controlled Congress. (7/19/2007 8:54:23 PM)

Oh, in other words, Bush has lost the center.

And that's good because...?

quote:

ORIGINAL: FirmhandKY

A short hand method to look at how people break down in political opinions is the old 1/3 - 1/3 -1/3 paradigm.

1/3 of people are generally "on the right".

1/3 of people are generally "in the middle".

1/3 of people are generally "on the left".

That's one of the reasons for Bush's 34% approval ratings, because it's his core constituency.
