I think the mod's are assuming that we are all fairly mature and can handle some heated debate

This is why you should never assume......[:-]

LOL LaTigresse.   I look at it this way now.  If you were to take us to dinner, we would be completely different people in real life.  On the net, people tend to hide behind their keys and let it rip.   This site does rip well.   Some people just rub you the wrong way.

Regards, MissSCD

mnottertail -> RE: to the moderators (7/25/2007 6:39:33 AM)

well since there is some curiosity about me, whether you like me or not, you can be pretty sure I am telling the truth as I see it. And since Mod 11 is rather the busiest little chunk of red out here ---

Mod 11 and I are not buddies, not by a damn sight. I receive withering warnings and have been put on moderation by Mod 11.
I have vociferously argued TOS with Mod 11 and had my ass handed me many times, on the other hand...whether ruling favorably or not, I was given audience. And one time, it was allowed that my comment was misread and it was let stand.

Now, as to whether Mod 11 is protecting buddies, I can't really say, but I have never seen any much in the way of evidence of that out here and of course I am rather ubitquious.  Does Mod 11 show some slant somewhere?  Probably, turns out that somewhere Mod 11 is a human. But, by and large Mod 11 is trying to be decent to them what deserves decency and slash and burn to them what deserves slash and burn.  Ultimately, I have no quarrel with Mod 11, I think Mod 11 is doing a pretty spiffy job what with all the cantankerous and TOS violating assholes here abouts. And no, Mod 11 does not own this site, approve pictures or profiles or work support(that one I am somewhat unclear on) but it is a model that should work for the publicans like you and me. I have been in and around people wending their way into moderation over the years, just because I have been around some and almost invariably there is a flurry of mails trying to drum up support for lets go beat up the Moderators.  Fuck that shit.  If I ever had to do the job, I would end up icepicking every one of you dead in the goddam heart. I am intolerant, myopic in viewpoint, and am a general ne'er do well.

Every so often these kinda thread pop up.  Here is the final answer.

Yes, it is uncommon and unique. Yes, you are the only one. Yes, it is unfair and you got fucked.  Yes, we should kill the moderators. Yes, I think you would make the bestest moderator.  Yes, you would have to deal with my ass all day long. You would have to excuse your self from unwrapping christmas presents with the family, to see what my lousy ass is saying now.  You would not be able to finish your turkey in peace and otherwise stuff your face on Thanksgiving, because you gotta see what the fuck that melby motherfucker was up to now. Yes, you would have even bigger jackasses than me on this site and yes Virginia, you would multiply me by about 50 or so to deal with.

So.....think about that, you got time, folks.

The one's that make the nasty comments are the one's who get supported and those like yourself who complain often get booted if you complain to much. The moderators here have a warped logic as many of us know.

Nah! The mods only slam you if you dare to trade insults with one of their buddies. As long as you sit quietly and let the moderators pets flame to their hearts content, you are safe from the big mean mods.

Don't violate the letter or the spirit of the TOS. Don't know if that will put you on 11's good side, but it will make you not an object of interest to Mod 11.

Thing is, from your perspective it may look that way.  From an overworked mod's perspective, it can look quite different.  They don't necessarily have time to read every single post on the board; they step in when they're explcitly called for, and moderate based on what they see.  If Person X stepped over the line two hundred and sixty-seven posts ago in another thread, and Person Y just stepped over the same line on a thread where a mod was just called in by Person Z, guess who's going to get moderated.  It probably won't be Person X, because the mod is a volunteer who doesn't have time to find the other thread and read two hundred and sixty seven posts back.  This will inevitably result in cries of favoritism, when in fact Mod Seventeen (or whichever moderator it is) who actually laid the smackdown may not know any of the people involved on the thread at all.

I moderate on a science board that can get as bad as this one in terms of sheer nastiness, though academics usually go about it with longer words rather than four letter words.  Usually, though not always.  Anyhow, the dynamics of how moderation works is the same whether it's a kinky site or not, and the folks who get moderated are always likely to percieve unfairness and favoritism whether that's what is really happening or not.  Most of what's behind the apparent inequities in a volunteer mod system is a simple lack of time to delve deeply enough into any given issue, beyond making the crap stop that needs to stop.  Generally a mod is likely to do that, and then stop looking.

Community moderators do not have time to convene a jury trial and a grand scale investigation for every offense committed on a message board forum.  They're just going to do what they have to do in the moment to keep the board functioning for everyone.  Inequalities will result.  Such is life on the Internet.

I'm not saying that it is impossible for some favoritism to occur.  I don't know the situation here or the moderators here well enough to speak to that.  I do know how community moderation works, and how apparent favoritism and inequality can very easily be the result of limited staff time to keep a very large community functioning.  I would suggest considering these possibilities before deciding that every decision here that you do not like is a result of malice or personal bias.

Well, my opinion is based on following the threads for months, noting which people flame others consistently, and seeing who does and does not get visibly reprimanded ( ie, silenced with the temporary awaiting approval penalty ) for their actions. After noting this pattern, I decided to experiment with it by singling out one of the frequent flamers and offering insult for insult with the person. After a very short amount of time I received a very unprofessional message from a certain mod, and when I responded back to the message about being biased received an even nastier letter in reply. I would hardly call that my perspective, especially when I contacted several others that had felt the wraith of said mod through e-mail afterward to compare notes on this pattern of behavior.

As for moderating on boards, I have served as a mod on an MSN  debate board for some 6 years now, and know that it is often thankless. Fortunately though, none of our mods there are so cowardly as to hide behind a mask of anonymity. We are open as to who the mods are and, unlike some, will actually listen to a rational appeal from someone that feels they have been unfairly targeted. We will even go so far as to ask for another moderator to look over the claims to see if we might be showing a bias for or against someone. Our lack of anonymity keeps us honest, and prevents us from being heavy handed and showing favoritism. A lesson that could certainly be learned by a certain double digit moderator here.

I am sure that not every decision here is the result of malice or personal bias. The fact that the flamers can be narrowed down to a small handful makes the resulting bias all the more glaring when it does happen. But, that being said, the mod in question has been tamer as of late. Perhaps she has finally reached a state of emotional maturity surpassing that of a spoiled 5 year old, or perhaps the owners of the site finally caught up to her childish favoritism and slapped her cross eyed for it. Either way, the end result is that she now resorts more to making a point to show her disapproval by examining your profile rather than by bullying, juvenile threats, so there might be hope for the girl yet.

Being that  I would consider myself to be one of  Mod11's favorites.....Let me tell you how it was accomplished....two words....Cock shots.

Let's see, you went out of your way to get into the negative spotlight of a Mod....and succeeded. Then you bitched about it to the Mod and other people....and that got you even more negative attention from said Mod. And then you label that as a pattern. Hmmm.

I would love to see some pictures of caitlyn in a nice cocktail dress and high heels, maybe pearls about her neck----she had a little one of her with a stocking cap on once, she is lithe and pixyish-----that would be fun to explore. But I think she is rather shy and doesn't have a really good self image----that is too bad.

Good post!  The pressures a caitlyn must face, I imagine, are slightly overwhelming....You got Kitn...Who is a stone cold piece of primo, tappable, slightly aged meat...And now a newcomer, her arch nemesis Jhin, For awhile I thought Aileen was going to be CM's top ho....But every time she comes out here that betch just wreaks of LaM.....Fuck, I don't think 400 gallons of tomato juice and steel wool could combat that stench.

caitlyn is it too much to post just one cute lil' pic of gash?

I observed, conducted an experiment based on those observations, subjected the experiment to falsification, found it unfalsified, confronted the object of the experiment, and was met not with rational discourse but with hostility. Sorry that you are unable to grasp the concept of scientific experimentation.
