ORIGINAL: Level I believe it can help, but we don't always get the answers we want. Or think we want.... Beautifully stated, Level. I could relate experiences about answered prayer in my life and others I know that are amazing. I won't do that on the open forums because it's too precious to me to be mocked and scoffed at which it inevitably would be. When one has to defend the right to be considered "normal" and "legitimate" because they are practicing Christians, it's just a little too judgmental and closeminded for my taste. But....suffice it to say "the effectual fervant prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16). There are tons of scriptures concerning prayer but I always think of the one I just listed as well as this: * James 4:3: "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts" - This may be why you can't pray to win the lottery and get it With this fast reply, I don't have all the scriptures by chapter and verse but I would add this: As mentioned above, it's my own belief that prayer has to be sincere and can't be for things that we simply lust for. One has to actually have faith that prayer will be answered. Praying for something and at the same time doubting you'll get it is not efffective. Nothing is impossible with God but don't pray for it if you think it is. Though prayer very often works, it doesn't always happen the exact way we desire. As Level said, we don't always get the answers we want. Nor do we always get our answers in the way we want. You have to be prepared for that too. Prayer is a wonderful thing in my opinion. It gives me time in communion with the Creator and, even though He already knows what's in my mind and heart, telling Him about it feels, to me, like becoming unburdened. Not every prayer of mine or those I know has been answered as we wanted, when we wanted, or how we wanted. But many have been answered in ways much more wonderful than we had imagined. Prayer does work............luci
