RVSearching -> Altered states. (8/12/2007 1:00:07 AM)

There is something W/we really must ask of others to see exactly how prominant this is with in the lifestyle. While W/we personally will not play while one or both have indulged in drink or any type of drug, it seems there are some that W/we know who do. What about Y/you? Would you play under the influence? If not why wouldnt you and if so why would you?

littlebitxxx -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 1:29:41 AM)

A resounding definitely not!!  And I won't play with someone who has been drinking or indulging in recreational drugs either.  In my opinion, they negatively affect coordination, judgment, reaction time and moods.  Sensation play would be bad enough, but to put a weapon in their hands??  No way.   In my case, I wouldn't enjoy the sensations near what I could sober, and could raise my pain threshold enough to become dangerous.

Tinman1960 -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 1:35:17 AM)

Play under the influence ? NEVER! For me and mine that is a hard fast rule.... I do not feel it is safe under any circumstances. While I have known others that will disagree and have played while drinking and after drinking, I strongly disagree with this practice.

Tinman1960 -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 1:40:21 AM)

While I have known others that do, for me and mine, the practice of playing under the influence is a Hard Limit. I do not feel it is a safe practice for anyone - others will always do what they want, but me and mine will never be a part of it.

SusanofO -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 1:44:57 AM)

I cannot drink (and have never really used drugs, not even pot) - due to being on medication (which I will be on for life) - so it's a moot point for me as far as using any of that stuff myself - But - I wouldn't scene with a partner who was using or drunk. It strikes me as dangerous.

I've never had to tell someone I wouldn't scene with them  due to this kind of problem - my partners haven't ever put me in a position to have to refuse scening with them for this reason. I haven't had a boatload of partners, but still - I think it's kind of fortunate I've never been put in the position of having to refuse scening with any for that reason.

And as always, I ask - define 'drug'.(Not that ANY OP ever does responds)
Anyone can become addicted to anything - do you play without caffine?  Asprin?  Any medication/  Do you know the risks?  Do you bother to ask - or just assume.

Too broad ranging a question and like anything - its simple risk play.  Play ya risk - take your choice - accept the responsibility.

Peace

Stephann -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:02:26 AM)

I don't use illegal drugs in my normal life, so I wouldn't use them in a scene.

I do drink moderately, and have no compunction against playing under the influence, in private.  When I say that, though, it's always mild play; spankings, hair pulling, (mild) face slapping, etc.  I also rarely get 'drunk' and when I am, sadism is the last thing on my mind.  I'm more likely than not wanting to play guitar, sing, and laugh.  I'm just not very sexual when I'm drunk, and that's what fuels my sadism.

Key word here being "a" beyond about 3 I will not play with someone, and if I will play when they have had that much depends on the person.

I did have a somewhat vanilla freind ask me to flog her for her birthday. "But you got to wait untill I'm trashed" I did not see her that night.

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:09:21 AM)

i wouldnt play on drugs.......but id play on herbal therapy....

dawntreader -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:09:37 AM)

Greeting dark,
you bring up a good point there[:)]

To the OP: i am with CelticPrince on a glass of wine and i have played with people i trusted  after indulging in a few libations but it as been in "light", more sensual  play. i know many don't play with music because they feel it can affect their observation of signals from their partner but i find music enhances the experience for me.

i think for anything of  high intensity, sobriety is a good thing. But i have also experienced a Dom getting so into his own "head space" without any ingested substance that he became quite heavy handed with a paddle... i think it is possible to go overboard either way~

domiguy -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:25:12 AM)

I depends entirely on the individual....If alcohol does not change their over all demeanor....Feel free to have a cocktail prior to cock hitting tail....If it makes someone reckless or sloppy I'd have to pass....Also, it's no fun cleaning up puke.

Aileen68 -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:28:14 AM)

I've played with a few drinks and I've definitely played stoned.  I love playing stoned...heightens all of the feelings and senses for me.  It makes it extremely intense.

rmanrr -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 6:52:11 AM)

Greetings
Not under any influence period...and being diabetic I make sure My blood sugar is within tolerable limits for too high or too low also affects how I think and act. To play under the influence would to My mind be tantamount to abuse for at that time I would not be in control of Myself....and not being in control is to play dangerously. That is just Me though. I would not play with another in that altered state either. To lose rationality is to lose Myself. Only when driving does that become an issue heh heh.

PairOfDimes -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 7:24:38 AM)

I don't drink or take drugs not prescribed to me, for reasons independent of play. And truly, I don't like to take painkillers prescribed to me--ibuprofen is about as strong as it gets. I'll play with someone who has indulged in, say, a glass or two of wine with dinner--most people don't seem to behave vastly differently then.

I've never really had to talk firmly about this. It assumes that either I would notice or playmates would announce that they were drunk or high, of course, but that's really all I'm willing to do--analyzing urine for substance traces kind of kills the mood.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 8:04:49 AM)

as a sub why would want to do anything interfere with the endorphin rush wine does that it dulls the nerves and it takes more to achieve certain highten sensations why why why  what ever

velvetears -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 8:12:46 AM)

i would not play under the influence of any drug. i want to experience it "in reality" not all doped up or intoxicated.  i am a masochist and if i were to be under any influence how could i safely play - the drugs would cloud my sensation of pain and make it dangerous because i would perhaps not be able to communicat properly if something were wrong, that is if i could even tell if something were wrong.  As for the dom - how can a sub trust an intoxicated or doped up dom?  Drugs take away inhibition - some think thats a good think - and maybe in another context it is - bit not in a bdsm scene.  You have to have control and be able to accurately read the sub and know what you are doing, not be led by an intoxicant.

MrDiscipline44 -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 8:20:58 AM)

As far as drinking goes I don't do it because it creates a personal liability within myself. I've always seen the taking drugs as a weakness and as such, don't taken them.

domiguy -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 8:31:56 AM)

Every now and again I like having a few drinks and occasionally with the right group of folks it can be many many many many...It just goes to show how dominant of a man I really am.....I have confronted my alcoholism and kicked it squarely in the balls...I will be no slave to the grape!

If alcohol doesn't get the person to wacked out....I see no problem with it.....From the posts and frail mentalities of many that participate out here, I would rather be with many women I know after they have been drinking than the majority of you stone sober.

violetaelf -> RE: Altered states. (8/12/2007 8:36:06 AM)

Never. It's been established with my Sir from the very beginning. No more than 1 glass of wine.. (or one glass of beer for him). He is all about safety, especially when he is using his knives on me. He needs to be very aware and not affected by any alcohol or drugs. I am very glad that he brought up that point. Makes me trust him a whole lot more.
