I reiterate for those of you who are new, don't let this site intimidate you.  The only knot one really needs 99.5% of the time is a square knot.

I'm a huge fan of the clove hitch too.. easy enough to tie, easy enough to untie, and it's fully adjustable once it's tied (to a bedpost or spreader bar).

And now we know the other 0.5%  *S*  I presume it is similar if not identical to a half hitch?  *going to google or Bearlee's link*

hmm Ok, just found the clove...not like a half hitch exactly but appears to serve a very similar purpose.  I typically use a half hitch for my "bed post" ties and when I'm ready to secure more fully I use a 1.5 hitch to keep it secure.  (Those really aren't knots though)  The clove...hmm...I don't think it is truly a knot either...but that's not really relevant as to whether it does the job!

You can tie a person without useing any knotts. One great thing about bondage is that there are so many ways to tie.

sure if you want to cut off circulation or make it totally and easily escapable.  Ya gotta have a square knot here and there to ensure the rope doesn't tighten too much.  For example a bola bola will tighten right up without a square knot to hold it and that defeats the purpose.

Oh no no no....I can't do anything with sailing...that does require knots doesn't it?

I could pull the rope I suppose but then I'd get all hot and gooey thus rendering myself useless to you *S* (at least for sailing)

Another point about the choice of line: MFP works well for this because it's a solidly braided cord that doesn't have much give. Twisted fibers such as nylon, hemp, flax (Caveat Emptor: flax is often sold as hemp here in the US) have much the same advantage - it doesn't slip too much within itself.

Most parachute cord and cheaper ropes are a braid over a solid fiber core. There's slip and play and in general not much to endear it for applications where force can be used against it. And cotton rope is just disgusting...

And yes, sailing requires a good knowledge of lots of knots...

I'm inspired - I'm going to use my downtime tonight to draw a manga tutorial on how to tie someone up... ;) And I'll try to keep it very kawaii...

Miss earthycouple,

Do you know some good/cheap places to buy MFP? Currently my Daddy is using two different kinds of rope - one I like, which he says is Diamond Braid White Nylon, and the other is normal Polypropelene, which he removes the core from. However, I'm VERY interested in MFP, but I have no idea where to purchase any from.

Hi Ysabol,

I've bought MFP from http://rainbowrope.com/all.html .

I came across this list of rope suppliers on ds arts: http://www.ds-arts.com/Resources/RR_Rope_Suppliers.html

Got into this conversation late, but here's a couple of resources that have been helpful to me.  Jim Wiseman "Erotic Bondage Book" is available used from Amazon and this website has some good basic ideas for using rope:  http://www.ropefashions.com/index.php

Buying MFP: It's pretty common to find in lots of places, but most notably outdoor supply stores. Gander Mtn., Galyan's, Dick's, TSC, Rural King and your handy local army surplus store... I say this, because I'm all about touching the rope first and inspecting it before even dropping a penny on it, much less tying someone up in it.

Rainbowrope has good recommendations from people I trust enough to tie me up in it, but I've never used them.

The DS Arts list is also a good place to look for howtos...

And the kawaii tutorial's in process - meeting my ol' school geeks at GenCon for b'fast went later than we'd expected. Much perving over pictures of someone in a red corset and tartan skirt... <sigh> and it's making it difficult to properly draw Hello Kitty topping Chococat. ;)

Re: 4chan - whatever. It's a fun place to find stupid shit, but that's about it.
