But considering your attitude towards the selfless, I can see it would be unlikely they would be attracted to you.

That hurt bob, I’d be drowning in my own tears here if there weren’t so many holes in that metaphor.

Rather than site the police/fire… etc. as being selfless maybe you should consider why they joined in the first place? I’d be grateful to them for risking their lives as anyone would but it’s not selfless they do get something out of it themselves.

A man offers a seat to a woman:

Is this because it’s the right thing to do as dictated to by society?
Or because she will be grateful to him?

Are you under the impression selfless people have no source of joy in their lives?

To be thoughtful of others, to see them smile, laugh, to know you've done them good ... these are all sources of joy for the selfless.

This doesn't make them selfish. They do not feel annoyed if they don't get the proper response.

They do it because they feel the need to care for others, to do their best to help others.

I said earlier that selflessness was not an ultimate achievement, but rather a comparative state: selfless compared to what?

There are amongst us those who are more selfless than others, and those who are more selfish than others.

It is a spectrum.

There are those who are growing more selfish, and those who are growing more selfless.

I see myself on a path to becoming more selfless through my craft as a master.

And so when I am able to serve the needs of a selfless slave as her master, I am happy and content with my world, as I am once again growing to be better than I am.

Being single is also a time for growth, but it is a paltry sum compared to what is learned and shared within the relationship of master and slave.

Yeah probably.[:D]

No, it seems they wait until you agree with them.

I can only judge the card carrying members of the selfless people’s republic of selflessness.

I uh..........well, Merc has made too much sense so many times that I am going to cakk myself, I can't deal with it anymore, and I just wanted to REPEATEDLY tell my 500,000 closest friends here (maybe twenty, if you ignore the multiple profiles and Nigerians and 18 (+ or -) year old guys posing as war hardened ProDommes asking for tribute)

And I will do it over and over and over and over again, and will be pretty sure that you will take some pity on me and give me a puppy fuck, 'cause you will get it sooner or later, just like a woman bitching again and again and again, because they think that if you would only understand------

Well, who wouldn't cakk themselves after that?

What method should I use?  I ask you, my closest closet friends at collarme?

Ron the Doomed

Might I suggest Autoerotic Asphyxia...Finding your lifeless hanging corpse in the closets of CM...Would make for some compelling threads...You would be in good company....Michael Hutchence found he was actually correct..."Not enough time."  He found away to make time stop for the two of us....Obviously referring to the special relationship between a man and his cock.

Party at Merc and beth's!!!!  I'll bring the tequila and baby oil.

Aileen - you know you have a standing invitation. Just got out to put the steaks on the grill - Better hurry! But then the party goes until Tuesday. Jello shots should be set in another 1/2 hour. This year's experiment...

Lime Jello shots w/Tequila served rimed with salt.

As a matter of fact -
Come one - cum all!

PARTY TIME !

Knight, i understand where Velvet is coming from.  There are so many times where someone will post a thread and i can sit on this side of my screen  and predict who will respond and how.  i have learned to identify, just from reading these forums on a daily basis, a train wreck of a thread upon reading the OP.  And probably a good 75% of the time many of the same ones here, do the exact same thing everywhere else.  Sometimes these folks will have something real and intelligent to add to a discussion, but mostly they just make fun of others without adding anything.

~grins~ now before you get the idea that i am just jealous and want to be part of 'that' clique, i do not.  i am not a person that likes to join a thread or make snarky comments just to be part of a clique.

it is always easy to predict in Hindsight!....

but you are part of the clique and you don't even know it!!!

KatyLied -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 2:22:55 PM)

Where are these cliques and how can I get a membership?  Does membership include jello shots?  Because I could really be digging that.

... I would not describe that attitude as a wise choice for a teacher striving to be more selfless.

But considering your attitude towards the selfless, I can see it would be unlikely they would be attracted to you.

So perhaps your pov is not based on much first-hand experience.

Is anyone surprised that KingBob has no clue as to what motivates people who perform selfless actions?

Enlighten us and let us know what motivates people who perform selfless acts.

Enlightening people on CollarMe isn't my job.
Encouraging people to think for themselves is somewhat of a hobby though.

bandit25 -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 3:24:55 PM)

Come to Chicago, visit bandit and I'll give you all the jello shots you can handle.

Oh, and I'll drag Emperor and domiguy along with us.  How's that for an offer you can't refuse?

I happened upon this post in my "take a break from studying subnetting" boredom.  I spent years working for EMS, first as a volunteer...I also worked as a firefighter VERY briefly (that kind of HOT just isn't my thing).  Believe me, the people that stay in EMS/Fire are what i would consider selfless....they don't get nearly as much out of it as they put in....but the key being....at least with the ones I associated with....they didn't expect to get anything out of it.....well, they did get their desire to help others fulfilled....but that's about it, cause in rural areas especially, it doesn't fill your pockets and it doesn't make you a "hero" in people's eyes.

They didn’t get an adrenaline rush from what they did? I’m not knocking people that risk their lives they are heroes but I wouldn’t describe them as selfless. For me that’s a different characteristic entirely. Nice name btw.[;)]

Shaking head.

Yeah, they all run into burning buildings, risking their lives, for adrenalin rushes.

...and oh yeah, if they can grab a kid or put out a fire, that's just bonus.

(o.O)

quote:

I’m not knocking people that risk their lives they are heroes

of course not. Who could accuse you of that after you've insinuated they're all adrenalin junkies?

Imagine the surprise those adrenalin junkies got on 9/11, huh?

You do realize that there are people on this planet capable of accomplishing things you cannot, right?

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean no one can.

and what characteristic would that be?

the guys who died on 9/11 trying to save people from the World Trade Center were just selfish adrenalin junkies whose different characteristic was                                        ?

RCdc -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 4:18:54 PM)

Double standards - just like before.  Berate those that do not agree - condem those that berate you for not agreeing with them.
.Pot.Kettle.Black.

People who enter the services do so out of selfishness.  They do so to save people, to serve their country - to be exactly what they feel their calling is.  To refuse their calling would be the selfless act - but they do so, knowing that losing their life, to save others is an act of their own choosing.  Above their family.  Above their friends.
This is a selfless act - as defined.

And why do you never ever answer anyones questions - yet always ask your own?

Peace
the.dark.

FullCircle -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 4:27:44 PM)

Is that because you are better than me? Superbob? Maybe it’s because you just don’t have much empathy for the thoughts of other people.

You seemed to ignore the fact I called them heroes completely. You also don’t understand my laughing is at your incredulous position of trying to shove sacrifice down my throat and call something else.

I've little empathy for the selfish, it is true.

I've far more empathy for the selfless, who must protect themselves from being treated as doormats by the selfish.

I've certainly got more empathy for the poor souls in the World Trade Center than someone who considers the rescue teams who died to be nothing more than selfish adrenalin junkies.
