ORIGINAL: Bobkgin But considering your attitude towards the selfless, I can see it would be unlikely they would be attracted to you. That hurt bob, I’d be drowning in my own tears here if there weren’t so many holes in that metaphor. Rather than site the police/fire… etc. as being selfless maybe you should consider why they joined in the first place? I’d be grateful to them for risking their lives as anyone would but it’s not selfless they do get something out of it themselves. A man offers a seat to a woman: Is this because it’s the right thing to do as dictated to by society? Or because she will be grateful to him? Are you under the impression selfless people have no source of joy in their lives? To be thoughtful of others, to see them smile, laugh, to know you've done them good ... these are all sources of joy for the selfless. This doesn't make them selfish. They do not feel annoyed if they don't get the proper response. They do it because they feel the need to care for others, to do their best to help others. I said earlier that selflessness was not an ultimate achievement, but rather a comparative state: selfless compared to what? There are amongst us those who are more selfless than others, and those who are more selfish than others. It is a spectrum. There are those who are growing more selfish, and those who are growing more selfless. I see myself on a path to becoming more selfless through my craft as a master. And so when I am able to serve the needs of a selfless slave as her master, I am happy and content with my world, as I am once again growing to be better than I am. Being single is also a time for growth, but it is a paltry sum compared to what is learned and shared within the relationship of master and slave.
