Handspankingdom -> RE: Does Dominance = Parenting? (7/19/2005 12:58:30 PM)

Good day!

I think the concept of parent/child roles where it pertains to D's tends to purvey different views. On the one hand, many vanilla folks may perceive this as incestuous, or sick. Afer all, spanking is something we do in a household, but what parent locks a child up in a cage? Knife play is also likely to provoke a visit from the neighborly Department of Child Protection services also.

I think to some extent however, being a Dom encompasses parenting (thru guidance, structure, discipline), regardless of whether a parent/child dynamic is verbally recognized. In many instances, when a sub offers his/her gift of submission, they are entrusting their dom to treat them accordingly, and to no lesser extent, to act in their better interest (much like a parent). Many subs may feel a great catharsis by pleasing their dom (whether this be a physical or mental act), and "feel safe" while knowing they have met with their dom's approval. Much like a parent, a dom is usually an authorative figure (in most cases folks), whom commands respect.

Just my thoughts.

M
