Hillary Bait ...

Durus -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 12:22:40 PM)

I don't understand?

caitlyn -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 12:31:18 PM)

Hillary Clinton will demolish someone like Fred Thompson.

The next election will not be won by a smooth, simple talking southerner with down-home values. It will not be won by anyone that not only supports the war, but has all but said that the original mistake was not going in strength.

This is not to dispute either point (which would be a topic for another post), only to say that reality is, what it is.

mnottertail -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 12:33:50 PM)

To quote a famous movie line of ol' Fred's...(he should take his own measure, here)

This is gonna end badly.

Ron

The only way Hillary can win is if the republicans nominate a liberal republican or someone runs as an independent conservative. Bill was way more popular then Hillary and that's the only way he won.

caitlyn -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 12:55:40 PM)

It's still pretty early, but I would take that bet in a second ... and to be honest, I'm not really fond of Hillary.

I do think though, that she will kick the shit out of any Republican but Rudy, who, if he ends up running against her, will only get mildly demolished.

mnottertail -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 12:57:10 PM)

there is your liberal republican.

Durus -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 1:51:20 PM)

Rudy can't win against Hillary...who does he appeal to but mushy moderates and liberals? None of which are going to jump the party fence to vote for him.

If an actuall conservative, and by that I mean someone that has the goal of preserving the constitution above all else ,(not these neo-con "social conservatives") runs he beats hillary simply because her negatives are too high. The only person with negatives anywhere near hers are Newt Gingrich and while he talks about running he knows he can't win. If Hillary chooses Obama as her running mate, and I suspect that he was created for just that purpose, it become even worse for her. If she chooses Bill Richardson (her best choice) all she really gains is a possible win in New Mexico. I don't think it looks good for her mathmatically except, up until now, the only people gaining any attention in the pubbie primaries are people that do not appeal to the conservative base.

I think Fred Thompson (assuming a primary win and pubbies are notoriously bad a choosing candidates) beats Hillary handily if there are no VP surprises. Which brings up an interesting point....who does Thompson have as a possible running mate?

mnottertail -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 1:53:18 PM)

Ol' Fred would need James Stockdale at least to complete the brain trust.

If you think that is who either Fred or Hillary are, you should choose another term besides 'reality'... [:D]

Fred Grandy would be the obvious choice, no?

LOLOLOFUCKINL.

caitlyn -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:02:25 PM)

Hillary has endless money to smooth out that image. Look how far she has come in the last few months. There isn't anything new to trash Hillary with. In America's short attention span political climate, it's all yesterdays news.

I agree with you ... she has a lot of negatives today. The election isn't today. Don't look at where she currently is ... look at the curve she is on, and where she will be going forward.

Fred Thompson did Congress the lazy way. In the end, people will look at him and try to determine what he has done, that makes him different than the current leadership in the White House. What they will find, is that he has done nothing at all.

While I certainly respect your opinion, if you think Hillary has many negatives and Fred Thompson does not ... we will have to agree to respectfully not agree.

As I said, this is not to dispute either point. That would be another topic, yes?

Perception is what?????

Caitlyn, you could be right about that.
The problem is we just don't know much about Thompson.
I don't know where he stands on any of the issues yet.
I think he made a big mistake by not being at the debate last night.
I might be interested in making a $100 bet with you on the election next year!
You good for the money?

Alumbrado -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:11:01 PM)

I didn't address either point, only the misperception that Fred is just a folksy TV character who somehow fell into politics, or that Hillary is opposed to the war.

Both of them are lawyers in the pursuit of personal and political power, who will support anything that gets them elected.

mnottertail -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:11:40 PM)

Nope, I think his not being in the debate is genius on someones part.

Doesnt have to stand up yet, can see where the polls go first, and doesnt have to fork out alot of money until later, and might have a fuck of a warchest.

Think 'Everybodys Talkin' at me' Midnight Cowboy.

all this jazz is low cost.

Durus -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:12:33 PM)

Are you suggesting Thompson is stupid? He's far from perfect but far from stupid. One of the things I like about him is that he isn't a blue blood from a long line of blue bloods. No matter the party, it's time to get the elitists out of power.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:14:25 PM)

Hillary though I think has maxed out. I dont see her getting more than 48% of the vote because she has a negativity rating over 45%. So she really doesn't really have that many people left to swing her way. Bill won in 1992 with only 43% of the vote but remember that Ross Perot was running that year and he stole a lot of votes away from Bush that year. Same thing in 1996.

You also have to look at the electoral college and it's going to be tight. As of right now I don't see Florida turning blue. Hillary's recent decision not campaign in that state, and the DNC's decision to strip Florida of its delegates in the convention will further hurt the Dems chances in that state next year. So I think Florida will stay red. Dems might have a chance of getting Ohio, but they are in danger of losing Minnesota and Wisconsin. Virginia could also go either way. And Oregon always seems to be in play.

It is awfully early to be looking at that, but as of right now it looks like it will be another very close election as far as the electoral college is concerned. Keep in mind also that Hillary's negativity increases as you go south and west. I don't think she has a chance in hell to pick up a southern state. And she's going to struggle in states out west.

mnottertail -> RE: Fred Thompson announces candidacy on Leno (9/6/2007 2:14:34 PM)

I am suggesting he is a man of real average mien, which is to say a fuckin' sage compared to shitforbrains.

Ron
