If he wanted the US to convert to Islam, then why wouldn't he just come out and say it in those words i.e. convert. According to the accepted wisdom, Bin Laden is intent on destroying the West: if he's so forthright in his views, and they are so extreme, then why would he use the word "embrace" to cloak his intent? It doesn't add up.

This is more of the "we have to fight them over there" propaganda.

A video appears in US terrorist monitoring circles at a time when there is sustained public opposition to Iraq, and the video is implying "we're in danger of being converted to Islam, let's keep them in their place".

Don't they have form for mobilising public opinion with a few tricks of the trade? Nicaragua etc.

Status: offline 		But there has been a sustained public opposistion to the war in Iraq for a long time now, NG; to follow that line of thought, we'd see an endless string of these videos, but we don't really. And I'm not sure the "convert/embrace Islam" part of the video is it's main gist, it just happens to be the topic of this thread.
 
Now, I will agree that there are plenty of people that will use the video for propaganda purposes.

Status: offline 		Ok your going to have to prove France and England were Socialist nations at one time.  Might I point out that haveing a socialist in any office doesn't constitute it being one.  That said I am working toward a degree in international politics, and unless you can pull out some hard evidence from some credible sourses (other then say friends of socialsim for instance) then I am probably going to laugh at you.  I might be wrong, but haveing a program such as socialized medicine doesn't count.

Need I remind you other countries that have tried socialism from China, Afganistan, most satilite nations saw a dramatic increase in deaths due to political differnces.  Camps, out right executions etc tend to be a common place, and before you go off about the US killing off political this and that, there is almost no credidble evidence, and its in a far smalller numbers compared to the population even if it is true. 

I have never heard of such blasfumy and to be honest with you that makes me now question the other things you say.  I do understand the point you were trying to make, but the reality doesn't seem to match up with your saying, either politically and socially.

Status: offline 		Yup. Exactly. Bush gave Bin Ladin the WIN when he pulled the US troops, as Bin Ladin demanded, from Bin Ladin's homeland, Saudi Arabia.

Once Bush capitulated to Bin Ladin's demands, the war was lost for America.

Now we have a reputation as giving into Terrorist Demands. I don't think that bell can be un-rung.
