I respect the ACLU's position on this. That guy is still a hypocritical scumbag though...

Isn't being a concervative backed by ACLU like having O.J Simpson as a character witness when you're on trial for murder?

Hush! Weird though some of their clients may seem - the ACLU might be backing you someday - you never know. Aren't you interested in BDSM, or is that just an ugly rumor?  BDSM activity isn't exactly considered the act of the "Moral Majority", is it? I know consensuality isn't necessarily a defense for a lot of things some might try to do, within its even relatively safe and sane "borders."

ACLU to Defend Pedophile Group
BOSTON --
The ACLU said the case, filed in federal court in mid-May, involves issues of freedom of speech and association.
"For us, it is a fundamental First Amendment case," John Roberts, executive director of the Massachusetts branch of the ACLU, told Boston Globe Wednesday. "It has to do with communications on a website, and material that does not promote any kind of criminal behavior whatsoever."

This is what the ACLU does.  It protects the most vile forms of free speech so that you don't have to worry about someone arresting or harassing you for your choice of language....

But judging from your post it would seem that someone would be much more concerned as to the rationalization of your thought process, that would enable you to arrive at the words that you choose to profer.

Good point,Susan!

Freedom-haters are all about scoffing at the ACLU,when the ACLU defends the freedoms of people they dislike.Just like Larry Craig,...used to do.Then all of a sudden, when it`s the freedom-hater`s rights in jeopardy, then the ACLU is a friend.

Hypocrisy and irony, are born of the same mother

To all freedom-haters,the ACLU defends the US Constitution, period. You`re just pissed because the constitution goes against so many of your values and beliefs.
Get over it.

Is bathroom sex in a public facility really a constitutionally protected activity?

What the ACLU is arguing is that the foot tapping and hand waving was a sort of flirting and attempted pick up not an overt attempt to initiate sexual activity on the spot. I think they're wrong on this and the state will prevail on this issue but that doesn't mean I am not glad the ACLU isn't getting involved to make sure all the Constitutional niceties are honored. Would we be half as sanguine if the undercover cop had gone into a bdsm club and then arrested a Dom/me for attempted assault and battery for simply coming on to the cop?

luckydog1 -> RE: ACLU backing Senator Larry Craig (9/18/2007 11:12:05 AM)

Well a BDSM club is very different than a  public restroom in an airport.  Would your hypotheticall Domme, be hitting the person without getting consent?  If so it would be a crime, and any BDSM club would put a stop to it right away, or it should be shut down.  Now does the ACLU regualrly go to bat for public bathroom sex cases?  or Just when a high profile Republican is involved?  If they do not get involved in every case like this, it shows that thier reason is political, and has nothing to do with Constitutional niceities.
